Back from Target...$80 later....

Okay, so the kids and I ran to Target after lunch to pick up paper towels and mouthwash. I ended up buying $80 worth of stuff. I bought this cute wooden step stool for the bathroom that I've been eyeing (it was on sale), some snacks, a bubble blower, a hula hoop, a rocket launcher toy my son wanted (he rarely asks for anything so I bought it for us to play with outside later), a bike helmet, batteries, hand soap....UGH!!! I have found that I can't get out of Target without spending at least 50 bucks-- usually more!
So does this happen to you? What's the average you spend at a store like that?

That happens to me all the time, especially at Walmart. Isn't it weird that you find stuff on sale that you didn't even remember you needed and had been meaning to pick up? I try not to go shopping very often for that very reason. It sounds like you bought a lot of really fun stuff though! Can I come over to your house and play?

My husband and I are practically the same way. We have a huge mega center Walmart in our area, and an Albertsons grocery store. If he goes into Albertsons, he spends $30. And, I swear he's back the next day. I've almost given up on being able to save money. Like the other person said, you just almost have to stay out of the store, or they'll get all of your money. And, you know Internet shopping isn't any better. The other day I was cruising by Ebay and ended up buying a video cam corder. Course I needed it and I justified the low price. But, it was totally an unplanned purchase. And, even though I'll enjoy the camcorder, I could really use that money now! LOL!

I know what you mean...It can happen so easily. Plus if there is a sale it is even worse...because there are always things you need. My boyfriend always gets mad at me because we will go out for one thing and come home with several bags....lol...

i know how you feel as i am guilty of doing that as well... luckily, not so often... the store is too tempting and i always ended up buying the stuffs that i don't really plan to buy and spend way over the budget... that's why i have to exercise self-control now and avoid those kind of stores if i don't really need to buy anything... that way, nothing will tempt me and i will be saved from the guilt of spending too much money...:-)

That's a typical situation everytime I go to a grocery store or a supermarket. I just go to that store to buy a couple of things and end up buying a lot of stuff (even useless ones). It's like something is tempting me to buy that stuff even though I don't really need it. Maybe it's their marketing strategy that makes me want to buy it and maybe it's just me.

I'm the same way- No matter how little I need I still end up spending too much in there. I have a $250 gift certificate there for doing a Entertainment book deal- I'm saving it for Christmas! I'm sure I'll spend it in one shopping trip! Heck I could take it and spend it now on snacks, supplies, and toys alone. I usually spend $50 ish at Target and Wal-Mart.

Is your name Debbie and are you my sister?
*lol*
My sister is the same way. She can not leave Target without looking in every single section in the store and buying something from each one (it seems). That is the only store she really shops at so we joke that she has stock in Target. I even bought her Target Pj's when they first came out and wrapped them in Target wrapping paper! When my son was little she would take him with her, put him in the basket and take off. I would go my own way and when I met back up with them - my son had made BANK.. sporting new sun glasses, a new outfit in the basket, a toy, a book, a snack, a juice!
I also never seem to be able to leave that store without hitting certain sections. I always stop in the Pj section, the book/DVD department, housewares, the pet section, the beauty aisles, the candle department, the game section, garden, the snack/food section, seasonal.. and the list goes on.
I feel your pain but I hope you have fun with all the new 'goodies'!
On average I spend about $100 but I do not go there often so it's o.k. Most of the time I pick up the staples like toilet paper, shampoo and all that fun stuff which is why I spend alot.

I love Target! The girls and I go there to shop in there dollar section and we always look at the clearance clothes because we almost always find something that we can wear and we almost always buy it. I don't mind spending a little extra for stuff at Target as I can always get in and out and find a decent parking spot. I hate Walmart for those two reasons and I have just refused to shop there now. I will go to any other store to get what I need but Target is my pick.

I also have problems going to these discount stores without spending a huge amount of money. I try very hard not to buy things I don't want, but rather stick to my "needs only" list. I usually console myself though in knowing that I definitely save money there, but still sometimes at the cashier I get sticker shock!

Usually I end up spending at least $50 when I am only going for like one $5 item! So I pretty much blow the other $45 or more on things that I see and can't resist. The toy and outdoor toys for kids section really gets me. Recently I bought some bubble wands, miracle bubbles, a big floppy frisbee and a bunch of stuff like that. Now I want to go and buy a couple of beanbags for the kids to sit on, but i'm afraid to go because I know i'll be out of control!

I too have the same problem at Target. I buy most of my bathroom products there since they are usually the cheapest and I just enjoy the store. I go in there for a few things and come out much more then I intended on. lol I'd say on an average trip to Target its about $40 or so. lol That's average. ;)
