Has your ebay account ever been hacked?

Today I signed onto ebay for a little bit of browsing, after not having been on for months. Apparently my account security had been compromised in the time since I had last logged on! I got a message saying that I had to chat with someone from ebay to get things sorted out.
I was actually really impressed with how good the service was in this chat thing. The guy was really nice, explained the whole thing that had happened, and even worked with me on the fact that my information had changed a lot since last time I was on, while still requiring enough information to be sure it was really me. He even called me and talked to me, and I was really happy with the whole thing by the time I got off the phone with him.
What happened is that someone went on and made a bunch of fraudulent listings under my name. Has this ever happened to you? Did you have to deal with one of these agents, and were you happy with the service?

Wow, no I get loads of fradulent emails saying they are from ebay or paypal and my account has been comprimised, but it never genuinely has. I have never heard of having to speak t them on the phone to get anything sorted out.
I hope it is all fixed up for you and there are no further problems.

*nods* Yeah, I think having to do the phone thing is out of the norm. The person I spoke with said it was because my account information was all out of date, which it was. I hadn't changed my address in like 7 years, and I have moved several times!
Thanks!

I had mine hacked once. It was before I had started really selling anything. I got on and someone had tried to sell motorcycles, computers, and some other high price items. They were good about taking care of the problem. I was surprised because I've heard lots of people complain about their customer service, but they were excellent with me. I never did find out how it got hacked.

Wow, I am so glad they got things worked out for you. I wonder if the hackers look for accounts that aren't used very much. I hope that is the case because then I am pretty good shape since I use mine every day.
It is really nice to hear how wonderful the customer support was. You hear so much about problems that people have. I have always had good luck witht he customer service. I have always found them to be very helpful and knowledgeable.
I get tons of scam emails but as of yet, (knock wood) I have not had any one get inot my account. I do change my password frequently and make sure that I have both letters and numbers in it, and I don't use real words, just made up stuff.

You know, they might look for ones that are inactive, simply because the person wouldn't notice right away!
I'm really careful about passwords too normally. I learned that since I work at a bank. I think in this case it was just the fact that I didn't use it for a really long time, and therefore didn't think to change my password.

I had mine hacked a few months ago. Ebay was great at getting it sorted out. I've been much more vigilant about making sure I'm on the right web addresses before I input passwords now. The tried to sell a car under my name! We're also pretty avid ebayers, buying & selling, so we caught it in about a day. I was really stress out about it though, I changed all my internet passwords and checked my paypal and bank account daily for about a month! It's scary how easily these people can get your information really.

That's terrible lecanis, I'm sorry you had to go throught that. I am glad though that ebay was good about getting it all sorted out and that there wasn't any harm done. I've never had a problem (knock on wood) with any online accounts like that, as I'm religious about closing browsers and emptying caches anytime I do anything where an account could potentially be compromised. It helps to use strong passwords, that can't be found in any dictionary also.

*nods* They were really good about it, but I did panic for a second when I saw that. It's a really scary thing when you think about it, to have someone else using your account somewhere.
I am usually really careful about using strong passwords too, and changing them often, but since ebay isn't something I use often I just didn't think of it. I think I'll have to start making a list of sites I use so that I remember to change all the passwords. I have lots of password ideas since I have to change mine at work really often, banks are picky about that for some reason. lol

Lecanis, I certainly hope it hasn't! I haven't been there for a few days (I know if I go there I will buy another Webkinz! I almost spent $35.00 on one last week and only had $45 in the bank!). I have had to deal with them when I couldn't remember the name of one of the store fronts that I really like and you are right, the customer service is great. I am so glad that things got resolved for you. ~Donna

That happened to me about six months ago! I was checking my email one evening and there was an email from EBAY showing what I owed in listing/selling fees. I found that odd since I haven't sold on EBAY in 2 years! Thinking that it was a really great spoof mail, I logged into EBAY from a browser window and there was an entire screen of crap for sell under my user ID!! I paniced. I too, used the chat feature and was quite impressed. The entire situation was corrected within 30 minutes. I am still wondering how on earth someone got into my account. I use a different password at every site that I join and my passwords are not 'words' rather a jumble of letters, numbers and symbols.

Wow, that has never happened to me before. I'm sorry to hear that it happened to you! That must be scary to realize your account has been hacked! It's good to know that ebay has such good customer service though and did such a nice job of clearing things up for you. A lot of places probably wouldn't be so on top of things, so at least it's nice to feel like you can trust them to fix things if there's ever a problem! I'm glad you were able to get things cleared up!

I had my account hacked into once, yes. I actually managed to get control of it back but they'd essed with it too much, and even though i changed my address back to my own many times, it still had half the address listed as a Spansih one, and cause so many problems that io set up a different account instead! I hadn't been using e-bay for all that long then though anyway, and didn't have my credit card details on or anything, think the person was just trying to list fraudulent stuff with it. Really annoying though!

My God this is scary. I just started selling on eBay and I have never known that your account can be hacked. I guess it can happen anywhere on the Internet heh? I'm sorry that your account has been used fraudulently. Good for you that you sorted things out and you were lucky to sign in. I guess I will have to check on my account regularly. Thank you for sharing this information lecanis.
