Do you think people use too many prescription drugs? Should intervention treatments be seeked before taking another prescription drug? How many prescriptions do you take? I was reading in an article called "Saving for a More Secure Future" (it's from http://www.pharmacytimes.com I get their magazine, I am thinking that they put the articles on line as well) that we can reduce problems with drugs (side effects, reactions, etc) if pharmaceutical companies have intervention plans and are willing to provide medication therapy management programs. What do you think about these? Do we take too many medications? Personally, the people I know don't take too many, maybe one or two. However, some people that I know take five medications for diabetes type two. I feel if they lost weight (these people that I am talking about are obese) then they wouldn't have to take the medications in the first place. Second, I think it should be the doctor's responsibility to offer interventions instead of always saying that "this medicine will fix 'X'". I think that is bad medicine and that is probably why people don't like going to the doctor. I also think the patients need to follow the interventions, as well. I am fortunate that my doctor is willing to try interventions before giving a medication.
Let's chat and I can't wait to see your answers.

I take too many, but I take far fewer now than I did at one point. There was one point in my life (and I am only 28) that I was taking about 15 pills in the morning and around 18 at night. Some were duplicates and triplicates of the same medicine because of dosages, but still, it was a lot. To further complicate things, because of medication side affects (effects - always confuse the two), I had to resign from my job, move back home to live with my parents, and give up a lot of hopes and dreams in January.
Should this have happened? I'm not sure. It probably wasn't the "only" reason I got sick, but it sure was one of the largest problems that we've been able to pinpoint thus far.
Did the medication (in this case prednisone and possible imuran) take care of the problem at that time? Yes, they did and without them, I don't know what I would have done.
Unfortunately, my situation, which I'm sure is not the only one out there, snowballed probably starting sometime in my youth with some sort of lung infection or something lung related that never cleared up. It then, many years later caused a skin disorder that was never controlled until it got way out of hand and years of steroid treatments and a final lengthy treatment of prednisone coupled with imuran began to weaken my body farther and farther. Continued stress that I put on myself and from my work environment made my situation worse and when I finally moved to a new job that I enjoyed in an area I couldn't afford and didn't feel safe in, that was the straw that broke the camels back. My adrenals couldn't handle all of the stress and were forcing my poor kidneys to try and handle all of the energy tasks for my body (qi wise).
I learned so much from the first acupuncturist I saw. I learned about myself and about some of the theories behind eastern and western medicine. In eastern medicine, you work to learn your body and practitioners help you keep it in shape by maintaining it and making adjustments as needed. In western medicine, we wait until things break to get them treated, often missing important warning signs. So then many of the underlying causes dont' get treated and medicines don't work because they aren't treating the root of the problem. It's all very interesting and I am still very interested in learning more.
I can't wait until I go for my next acupuncture treatment. That is my best medicine and my best hope to get off ALL of my medicines for good. That and the knowledge I hope to gain from studying eastern medicine.

Umm...books or websites...that's a tough one because I typically go to a bookstore like Barnes and Noble or Borders, a large one, and go to the health and lifestyle section and check the books there. From there I go off of the knowledge that I've acquired either from my doctor's and acuputuncturists as well as some of the research that I've done myself and choose books and titles and coincide with what I believe.
When I was searching the web, it was hard because I came across a lot of the sites that you were talking about and got very frustrated very easily. So I took a break and was searching through some magazines at Wal-Mart of all places, and found some really cool Yoga and Healthy living magazines. These gave a lot of information and a lot of links. I also got a lot of search terms as well to go back to internet searches and for when I got to a large bookstore.
Perhaps you could go to a bookstore, search through the magazines and books to come up with some search terms for the internet and a list of books to take out of the library.
As far as acne treatments, I would definitely stay away from the one on tv, proactiv or whatever it is. I've seen the results of that as far as birth defects. Horrible! Yogurt is always good and you are definitely correct about what we put into our body affecting what our body appears as.
Good luck on your quest to find a cure. In the meantime, try searching for ayurveda, chinese medicine, and acupuncture. Thank you for your compliment as well.

I get Bottom Health Line and Nutrition Action Magazine. They offer lots of suggestions and I love them. Okay, what I'll do is go to Barnes and Nobles and write down the titles of the books. I don't like buying books because I have bought many books that I didn't like. Some of them can be a lot of money like 24 USD, so I like to preview them at the library. Thanks for your suggestions.

I think we do take too much medicine wether its over the counter or prescription. I have been on medicines for moNths and was getting tired of taking them. I am getting better and feeling better so now it seems like the end result is worthwhile. I just think we will all have side effects from alot of them some worse then others. If you dont have to take pills then the best thing is dont.
