This is the first time in my life that I have ever owned a cat and to be honest I don't know much about certain things that pertain to them. It seems like my cat is always in heat. Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but she seems to be in heat at least twice a month. She is always inside and is never around other cats. My husband does not particularly want to get her fixed, but even if we did, would it stop all her crying and other "in heat" mannerisms? Please help me.

Over the warmer months it could be one week on one week off. But usually its about every 4 weeks and this may slow over the colder months. It usually lasts about 5-7 days. But all cats are different.
There is no harm in getting her spayed, if anything it will prolong her life. The risk of ovarian cancer is lessened in credibly. If they continue to go into season they are at more risk of infections etc....If she hasnt already she will start to mark her teritory, and this would usually be on your best furniture. Get her done she will be a much more happier content cat and you wont regret it.

Yeah, we're going through that now. Yuck! Thank you for your response. Everything you said seems ver accurate to our cat. It seemed as if she had nearly stopped in the winter months and now it is constant. Thanks again.

Boy, do I know how you feel. My Miss Mess is in heat right now. She's driving me and the rest of the animals in the house nuts...(2 dogs and one other spayed female cat). She literally howels and crys. I feel bad for her. We are going to get her fixed, it's the only way to stop it, and that way she can go outside again. They are indoor/outdoor cats. Usually a cat will go into heat every 2-3 weeks, until they either get fixed or get pregnant. So, the choice is up to you. Why doesn't hubby want her fixed? Just curious.

Thank you for your response. I think the reason he doesn't want to get her spayed is because he had a cat when he was younger have complications due to the surgery. I think another issue is money. The vets here charge so much for the procedure. I feel like we need to do something because if she "feels" sad everytime she is crying that would be awful.

I think cats are usually in heat at least one every two months, lasting about 3-4 days. I think the "in heat" mannerisms you are referring to are just your cat's way of cuddling up to you. My cats usually exhibit the same behavior when not in heat, although this behavior is not limited to the females.

The mannerisms I'm speaking of is not of her cuddling. She is not a very affectionate cat. She doesn't like to be held or handled in any way. She doesn't even really like for you to pet her. She wants to run back and forth under your hand. If you try to pet her, and we've tried different ways, she runs away meowing like she's mad. The actions I am refering to is her rubbing her face on an sharp edge she can find, rolling all over the floor back and forth to spread her scent I suppose, crying for hours on end, and sticking her butt up whenever someone comes near her. That's what I meant by mannerisms.
