I just got back from the dentist so I'm feeling kinda loopy. The novacaine and other numbing medicine just now really kicked in. I'm one of the lucky people, who get the numbing agents but they don't really kick in until all the drilling and filling is over. Anyway, I got one tooth filled and now I have to go back to have one of my wisdom teeth removed because of a cavity and he doesn't think it's worth it to have it filled. I've never had a pulling done so I'm nervous as I don't really know what to expect. Any advice???? After that is pulled I have to go and have an impacted tooth remove. I'm so not going to like dentist's when I'm done. I'm done, I had to let the stress out. Off to la la la land for me now.

I had some major dental work done a few months ago. I'm so glad it's over and I'm glad I had it done. So I know you'll be glad that you get it done. I get very nervous too about going to the dentist. Did you ask the dentist if he could give you something to calm you down? Sometimes they'll give you some valium or something to calm you down to take in the morning before you go in. I don't think I'd let them start until it was totally numb. My dentist always asked me before she starts and even in the middle if I'm feeling anything. I don't think I could stand it if it wasn't numb. I've had to have them give me another shot if it didn't numb it enough. The good thing is, that once you have the first shot, you can't usually feel the 2nd one.

True, I know I will be happy once everything is done. Thanks for the suggestion about asking the dentist for something to take that would calm me down the morning of the pulling. I never thought about that. Thanks again!

for me it´s no so terrible to go to the dentist as it waws when I was a child, if I am numbed enough I won´t feel the pain just uncomfortable, but in your case I really feel sorry, try to relax as much as you can and things will get even.

Thanks, I'm going to look into some relaxation techniques before I go back. Hopefully that will work.

Dental treatment is never fun, sorry you are suffering hun. All I can suggest is that you try to relax as much as you can, the sooner it is done and over with the better.

Don't worry. Just try to relax. Being anxious will just make things worse. I don't know if it's really that bad to have a teeth removed, they probably give you some local anestesy. If they do, all you'll have to do is relax (and, of course, cut off the speech for a few hours). After that, you'll notice things will get better.

I hope so. I'm probably gonna have to take a sleeping pill the night before to help me sleep. If I'm nervous there is no way I can sleep. I know they told me I won't be able to eat for about a day after they pull it out. I'll be sucking on ice chips for the day, :-)

Well I just came from the dentist maybe 3 weeks ago and I got five teeth pulled out at one time. They put me to sleep but my mouth was swollen. When you get that done sleep with that ice pack so the swelling will go done in 24 hours. It was crazy but I made it. The pain medicine really helped alot but it made me dizzy and drowsey. But you should be fine. Be Blessed.

Hello and thanks for the response. I appreciate the hint about keeping an ice pack on me so the swelling doesn't get too bad. Thanks again!

I don't think I would let anyone start doing anything like that until I couldn't feel anything yet. My dentist always asks if you can feel anything before he starts doing anything. Before you go get anything pulled I would make sure I couldn't feel it no matter how long that takes.

I will this time...I can deal with a little for a filling but there's no way in this world I could deal with a tooth being pulled out. They may have to tie me down to the chair. The funny thing is whenever I get the numbing agent I get that little tingling feeling and a little numbness but as soon as he starts drilling it's like he woke the "agents" up and they start moving around.

Oh you poor thing! I'm the same way, even with the maximum dose of numbing agent I can still feel the pain! I once had two wisdom teeth pulled and it was torture for me! The roots were very long so they had to saw through my jaw partway to get it! Doggone snotty know it all callous nurse told me "you're scaring the patients in the waiting room! It doesn't hurt! That's just pressure you're feeling!" Bleep bleep bleepity bleep on her!! I know the difference between pain and pressure! I went through 25 hrs of natural labor with my first son, I KNOW the difference and I'm no weenie!! ROFL! Really I don't want to scare you though. I'd discuss this problem with your dentist beforehand. You can always ask to be knocked out fully instead! That's absolutely what I'll be doing if I ever need another pulled!

Thanks for the information. He's aware that it takes awhile for the numbing agents to work on me but I'm gonna take you're advice and get more medicine! Knock me out, Doc!!! I would have cussed them out to, we know what's going on in our mouth not them. If we say it's painfully then it's painful.
