Do you avoid having people around for dinner because you are not a good cook?

I don't think that the food is the most important part of getting together, so I tend to stick with one thing that is easy to make and hard to mess up. Spaghetti. One of my friends is so undomestic that she was bowled over by the fact that I made cake frosting from scratch. It's a total of 4 ingredients.

That is commendable that you know the difference, and through experience. I wonder how many people eat bland food and understand that it is because of the state of the cook? Get exactly the same recipe, same ingredients, same kitchen, same oven and see the taste difference. It comes down to the cook.

Hi there ...
I ain't a good cook either. But i don't avoid entertaining if i had 2, i mean i make the best i can or maybe i'll ask someone else's help. In worst case scenario, I would take my guests and invite them out for dinner or something (provided budget is okey) :D
Thank you

I am not a great chef, lol.I manage something when my friends turn up,but if it's a special occassion,I prefer ordering from the restaurants.Unless it's certain dishes that I feel confident cooking ,I don't take chances as I still want them to remain my friends, lol.

No i do not avoid having people for dinner because i am not a good cook. Usually there are always people at my house at weekends evenings, and they do usually order food, and make special food and bring that to my house, because they know that i can not afford to feet them every Friday. Lol.
Sometime i do make special dinners, but we are always two or three friends that cook a my house, i never really do things along, because i do not have too much time and energy to start and cook. we have a short weekend here, and i like to rest a bit.
But i also know that if there was a situation that my cooking would be bad, i would still invite people to dinner. Lol. Let them suffer a bit. Let see what kind of friends i have. Lol.

I avoid it a bit because it's so much work, including the cleaning before and after...not because I'm not a good cook. It helps to get some take out or ready-made items from the store and mix it in with dishes from scratch to cut down on the work and stress.

OMG, If I should invite you for dinner, the only reason you will except, is, you don't know me and therefore, it will be the first and the last dinner invitation you will ever accept! lol! I am hopeless, and I'm not even ashamed to admit it.
In actual fact I hate it, and it bores the living daylights out of me. Thank heavens it is a passion of my husband. I always leave a conversation, when he and my female friends start exchanging recipes, he will even take a recipe book and read it like a frigging novel!
But all said and done, he is a wonderful cook!

HAHAHAHA. I can so relate to that. I have the attitude - "I have better things to do". I'm a convenience cook. Whatever is quick and easy. You married well. One of the pre-requisites for a partner - must be a good cook and good with his hands, as well as intelligent and can read my mind and get out of my way and not judge me because I'm having a mood swing! LOL.

I love cooking and i never found cooking as a hard thing. i very much enjoy people around dinner and serve them my handmade food. the best thing is that my hubby was a regular out side eater. he never had any meal at home. after marriage when i took the kitchen and explored his tastes there, from that day his urge for moving out and eating was gone. this was the best thing that i felt and for him i can do anything. i dont eat non-veg., infact i dont even know how to handle an egg, how to break it. then too, i make omlette, french toast, hard boiled eggs, i learnt poached eggs after spoiling some first, egg curry. he loves eggs a lot.one day i made him sandwich of boiled egg with some veggies , and he became a fan of it.
what ever i do with egg, the breaking job is done by him only.
i never felt cooking as a hard thing and i enjoy inviting his friends with family to dinner, or sometime even at breakfast. i love to invite my relatives too.

Hi Tetchie, I consider myself to work wonders in the kitchen and I love cooking for our family and friends. If I didnt know how to cook, I would still give it a go and make sure I study a cook book, so I wont look like a duck without water lol...

Yes, everyone I know is a wonderful cook so it just points out how bad I am. I am good with routine dishes but anything else I might as well put in the trash to start with.
