Does anyone else feel discouraged by the price of housing these days?
Companies are building new flats, houses that are aimed at first time buyers... they call it affordable housing!!???? It's such a nightmare, if like me you rent a flat or whatever, there is not alot of money left after paying the rent and other bills to save. How do you feel??

I totally agree it's getting more and more ridiculous. I looked at a flat not so long ago it was one of these 'affordable housing' part share thingies. Not only was the flat tiny but with paying rent aswell you might as well have had a mortgage for the whole lot it doesn't make sense! It makes me really angry and especially where I live in Devon there are lots of houses stood empty because people buy them as holiday homes, thus pushing up the prices for us!

I am lucky enough to have bought back in 2001, we have a reasonable mortgage, but with a growing family our house is rapidly becoming a touch too small. To move to a bigger house now would be crippling in the area in which we live, even though our house has risen in value significantly, the next level of housing (4 bed det) seems to have risen in price even more to a point whereby we cannot afford to make the move. Back in 2001 the price gap was not that great and a little stretching back then would have had us in the life-long property, now that is not possible without moving out of the area we love.

Well as you know the Prices here in the UK are unaffordable at the moment and People who already own their House are being crippled by the Mortgages
I don't think People are buying that much at the moment to be honest as they just can not afford it

Hello dear katkat. I think that the house price is getting higher and higher in China that many people find it hard to get one of their own without borrowing money from their friends and parents or the banks. I borrowed money to buy a house or to be exact, an apartment. I had to get loan from the bank for a few years, but I was lucky that I have already paid off the loan. That was years ago, but now the price is getting higher and higher. I feel lucky to have bought it earlier. Thanks.

I feel encouraged that the price of houses is now falling in the UK and are predicted to continue doing so until late 2010 by economists of huge financial institutions such as HSBC and Citibank. I observe the laughable denial from the property cheerleaders such as estate agents and certain programs on TV that imply that house prices will only ever go up. I am also currently renting, and I am waiting for house prices to bottom out before I buy. House prices were recently claimed "overvalued" by 40% by the International Monetary Fund. The end of the housing boom is upon us and "what goes up....
