I hate stray dogs

Right now there are two dogs running wround my property and under my house. They are chasing after one of my cats. these dogs have no collars. When I go outside they bark and growl at me. I should not have to feel afraid to leave my house or venture onto my own property. My poor cat should not have to worry about being bitten on our property. My poor cat is up in a tree right now. I couldn't get close enough to see if he was okay but his hind quarters looked pretty wet. I wish I could do something to get these stupid dogs off my property. I called Animal Control and they said they would send someone but we have been down that road before and no one ever showed up. They want me to catch the dogs and pin them up until they get here. I said, are you crazy. I don't know these dogs and they scare me. there is no way I am going to try to catch them. I would get my arm bit off. I am just pissed off right now because I can't get them off my property and I can't get to my cat to see if he is okay. I jsut had to vent a little. I think Animal Control should take stray dogs more seriously. I mean these dogs could hurt me, my family and yes my cats. I should not have to be left to deal with them myself. Isn't that what Animal Control is for?

having stray dogs near homes is a danderous thing. who knows they might be infected with deadly diseases like rabies. moreover, i have heard news in the recent days that dogs attacked several babies and small defenceless children in cities.

It really is a dangerous thing and I really do feel bad for the dogs because I know it isn't their fault but when they threaten me, my family and my cats, my emotions take over and I get mad. thanks for responding.

I think this is very seriuos and if animal control is not handling this, I would call the police. Maybe they can do something or at least make animal control show up.

I thought calling the cops would do something too but we got the same story from them. There is nothing we can do unless you are actually bitten. If I have my way, that will not happen. Thanks for responding.

I know what you are saying about cats. I am a huge cat lover. ONe of mine is not spayed yet, and when she goes into heat, she gets so loud and then all the male strays from the neighborhood seem to show up and scream all night. Thanks for responding.

I would be sooo scared since unknown and even known dogs scare me alot. Here in sweden we do not have any stray dogs though, here thery actually try to capture them very fast (if there happen to be one) and after that if the dont succed they will shoot the dog. I have during my life (26 years) never seen a stray dog in my country...

I'm only afraid of dogs that are agressive and bark and growl at me because I was bitten on my cheek when I was younger and still have the scars. Generally I love dogs, but I don't like anyone or anything threatening me, my family or my cats. Thanks for responding.

I understand your frustration, however, the poor stray dogs are someones resposibility. Its very unfair when people take an animal because it is cute as a baby, only to let it go wild as it grows up. I think there should be a major screening process before people are allowed to have dogs as pets. I have 3 small dogs, I take very good care of my animals. Pet owners who dont take full responsibility for their grown animals give other pet owners a bad name. I do not want you or your family to get harmed, you are obviously in a harmful situation. Don't hate the stray dogs, hate the irresponsible pet owners with no regard for other people or their pets. Yes, animal control should take the situation more seriously.

I hear what you are saying and you are right. I was just emotional when I started this discussion. It is not really the dogs that I hate, it is the owners who don't take care of them. I am also pissed off at Animal Control and the cops for not caring. Thanks for responding.

Yea it is scary to get bitten. When I was bitten I had to go to the doctors and they ended up having to cut my check to let all the crap out. Man did that hurt. Thanks for responding.

It is scary. I was bitten when I was younger and now I have to admit that I am afraid of aggressive dogs. Friendsly dogs I have no problem with, but if one even looks at me mean or starts to approach in a non-friendly manner, I get really scared. thanks for responding.

You'd think that's what they're for. After all, their title is ANIMAL CONTROL. You definitely should not have to be afraid to go outside. It's sad to say, but if someone were to get bitten by those dogs, animal control would be out there in a heartbeat. But it shouldn't have to come to that. I think you should call them several times a day, and tell them each time that these animals are very aggressive and that your cat has been scared and possibly hurt because of them, and that you are basically afraid for your life and well being. Keep calling them until they finally send someone out. I hope this gets resolved for you soon hon.

Yea the guy that my husband talked to said the best they could do is keep an eye out for the dogs. So my husband what, do we have to get bitten before you take us seriously, and the guy actually said, well yes. I just can't believe it. LEts wait for the crime to happen instead of trying to prevent it. What a stupid philosophy. I mean the dogs were here on my property. It's not like they would have had to go wandering the neighborhood to find them. I am so fed up with Animal Control. Next time, I think I am just going to call the police. Then the police can call Animal Control and make them actually do something. I wish there wasn't going to be a next time but I'm sure there will be. thanks for responding.

To bad I wasnt there I would help you. I am very good at catching stray animals. I would call the humane society and see what they have to say. They should send someone out. Other wise call the cops and ask them for help. They can get the humaine society and animal contol in gear!! I hope your cat is ok and I hope you get help soon!! Best of luck!

Well my cat is doing okay. He finally came down from the tree and came inside for a while. he does have some cuts on the back of his leg and a little hole in his hip. Luckily he doens't mind us putting peroxide on him so we keep him clean that way. It doens't seem to hinder his walking or anything so I think it is more of a nuicance than anything really painful. Thanks for responding.

I completely agree with you! If it makes you feel even a little better, you aren't alone. I am also very displeased with our Animal Control. We had a neighbor that lived across the street from us (sorta) and they had a medium sized dog that would run wild on our street. The owner could not control this dog at all. It did not listen to him or respond to him in any way. I almost think the dumb dog was taunting it's owner by the way it would look at him and then as if smiling, he would run away down the street so the owner couldn't catch him. The thing is, the owner would keep his side garage door open and his big garage door open so of course the dog was going to get out from the backyard! If you know your dog doesn't listen, then you keep the door that leads from the back into the front CLOSED so the dog can't get out but the owner was apparently as dumb as the dog. Anyhow, this dog would come into my yard and bark at ME! What the heck! Anytime I opened my front door, he would run over and bark at me like he owned the street. I started running after the dog and it would scare him away but he still kept coming back. One time my husband had our garage door open because he was doing the yard work and the dog came into our garage and started barking and growling at my husband. We love dogs, have 2 of our own, but my husband would have kicked that dog if he could have. We have alot of people in our community that like to walk and there is one woman that walks her baby up our street often. One day she was carrying the baby in her arms and going for a walk when the dog ran up and jumped on her trying to get to her baby! The owner was standing right in his front yard watching and didn't do a thing or say a thing. I called animal control so many times and nothing ever happened. I finally yelled across to the owner that if he didn't get control of his dog, I was going to do something about it. All he could say was "I can't control him". I finally got tired of it and one day I brought out my more protective dog who could take this mutt on. I had control over her but I brought her out enough so the other dog could see her and maybe realize that our home had a dog. It worked, he ran the other way and didn't come around as much to my yard. I think they finally got rid of the dog but then they got a little chihuahua that wasn't any better - so it was clearly the owners that were the dumb ones because both of their dogs were not trained. I'm glad they moved! I'm sorry to hear about your cat. Is there a way you can get a garden hose that will reach out to where the tree is? I would take the hose, turn it on and then spray the dog until it ran the other way. I'd probably find a metal bucket or something to bang as well. I hate stray dogs!

That is horrible. It is always the owners fault for not training their dogs or for training them ot be mean. I agree though that it is ridiculous that we con't even step out into our own property without the threat of being bitten. I love animals and would have a really hard time hurting one, but if it was in self defense I would do it. The dogs are gone now finally and my cat did eventually come down and he is inside now. there was no blood on his rear but he needs to calm down a littel more before I can really get him and look closely. He has a spot on the back of his leg that he has had for about a week now and I wondered how he got it, but now I bet it was those stupid dogs. My husband said they are the same dogs that came into his workshop in our back yard once and trapped one of his friends. the friend ending up throwing tools at the dogs until they left. My husband knows who the owners are and has talked to them multiple times but as you know the owners don't really care. It is really sad. All I know is that if I have to I will do something because I am not going to sit by and allow these dogs to hurt me, my family or my pets. Thanks for responding.

You can usually rent traps from Animal Control and trap them yourself . . don't know how big they are, but you can try trapping them and bringing them to Animal Control yourself. Or if you have a local humane society (not a county run animal control) you can call them too.

they are medium size with one of them a little larger than the other. They are pitbull mixes according to my husband. I will have to try the Humaine Society, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for responding.

at first.. i want to advise you to give those stray dogs a chance to live.. but now.. it seems like they're really bothering you.. i do pity those dogs.. as they don't have owner.. and in my country.. they catch stray dogs and kill them.. i feel it's very inhuman to do so.. eventhough sometimes stray dogs threaten the safety of the neighbourhood.. i think they're fierce because someone did something bad to them before.. and now.. those dogs can't differentiate the good and the bad anymore.. anyway...i agree with you that animal control should take care of this problem for you.. that's the purpose of that agency in my country =)

I do feel bad for the dogs because I know it isn't their fault but that doesn't mean I am going to let them continue with this on my land. Aparently my husband does know who the dogs belong to and he has talked to them multiple times but the woner just doesn't care. We told Animal Control where the owners lived and they said they would go talk to the owner, but who knows if that really happened. I am just digusted with Animal Control right now and maybe my title should have been I hate Animal Control, but when I started this discussion I was scared because the dogs had just chased me inside. Thanks for responding.

Stray dogs are a risk to everyone. Recently 8 stray dogs tore a 3 year kid to pieces in a city in India. They are a menace.

If animal control doesn't help you, call the cops and say you are affraid of leaving your house because of some stray dogs. Also metnion how they always growl at you when you try to go see if your cat is okay. The cops should also help because it is a concern for you safety. If the animal control and the cops don't help, this world needs hlep...

I think this world needs help. The cops told us to call Animal Control and when we told them we had already done that, they said well that is what you have to do. Basically we have to actually get bitten before they will respond. Just plain stupid. Thanks for responding.

I agree with you. They always want us to catch them and pin them up. First of all I'm not going to risk getting bit by an animal that I have no idea how its temermant is. Second of all we have no where to pin them up. I live in the country and we always have dogs running around.

It is so ridiculous isn't it. These are mean dogs who have already chased me into my house. Why on earth would I attempt to catch them. They are some sort of pit butt mix. they flat out scare me. My husband just called Animal Control and really got after them but they still said there is nothing they can do. What a crock. thanks for responding.
