Have I arrived too late at MyLot for my own good?

It seems like all the good simple discussion topics have already been started and answered by hundreds of people. I started a discussion this evening, had nobody answer it, and a few minutes later I saw that someone already started a similar discussion that got 325 responses. Is it true that now I'll have to start discussions on very obscure topics to be unique? That would be unfortunate because obscure topics don't usually generate much discussion. I'm starting to feel like I'd also need to start writing less to earn more. Is that the case? I hope not.

I have found that dicussions i started 2 weeks ago are now getting responses .I live in Aust. where as many menbers are either from America or india so different time zones and holidays when people have more time to respond. Also i think different countries different interests and and current news . As far as the same discussions being written well i look at it this way i am new in here as you are and so their must be others and they have not seen the topic before. Like i have said to others just keep plugging along and have fun . Dont look at it as being here souly for the money look at the fun you can have reading the different topics and anwering them & the nice people you can meet. Good luck

Well you are doing better than me so keep going if you are determined enough you will make it worth your while. I just read on another post that people are responding 200-300 a day and quality responses earn you more. Good lucki hope you do well

You can earn just by answering questions..you get a point for each question you answer..you only get one point for asking a question no matter how many people answer it..biggest goal is to get best response. Also don't worry about the same question already being asked..some of these questions have been asked 5 to 10 times already..some people borrow and some never saw the original..

I think a lot of whether you get a response is a matter of timing. I have asked a questions and have gotten no response. I have come back a few hours later then and asked the exact same question, word for word, and have gotten 7 or 8 pages worth of responses on it.

Right after I posted this I started getting a lot of responses. I guess that I just needed to wait.,. or whining can be helpful.

You can earn money by starting a discussion or posting to one. Best responses generate more points. I started several discussions when I first got on here and found out later on that there were many similar ones already posted. Some of mine got responses and some didn't. I spend more time now posting to other people's discussions and at times it gives me an idea for a new discussion. I don't think you have to start a discussion on very obscure topics, just something that will catch someone else's attention and get them to post. Good luck!

then try to focu on reply to other posts. the rating system of mylot is a little complicated, if your thread get lot of a-few -words replies, I think you still couldn't get much from it.
On the other hand, if you reply others as descriptive as possible, you will get more points.

Very good question, Ethan. I've been having fun digging around in the discussions and have started a few on my own, but have gotten a response on only one. I guess it'll just take us a little while to learn the ropes. Although I don't have a problem with earning more for writing less.

I've got you down as a buddy mandakat, so I'll be sure and comment on your discussions. Some of mine have done really well. Some are just sitting there.

I have a lot of my discussions also that have not been answered much, and wonder how people get one really moving here. And I have not seen where it pays as much as when we answer someone elses questions here. So for me, I try posting at least one New topic a day, and hope someone will choose to respond, but I now answer more questions on here, and get paid more this way.

Yeah, perhaps.. It happens to me too,
but some topics reached the bottom, so you can
use that, and open subjects, and hope people
will respond! :)

Some of the questions I was going to ask have already been asked, but not many. I'm lucky that my tastes tend to run outside the mainstream, so the things I want to discuss aren't that popular -- like sci-fi and cartoons.
But I think there are still alot of discussions to be had. And like someone else said, you can always get involved in discussions you wanted to start but realized someone else already had.

I am still fairly new to this, but the others seem to have given you good info on what to do. I have a few discussions going and some get repsonses and some don't. I too like responding to others.

it is never too late to start on mylot - don't worry if you have few responses - it is because you have made very few friends, get more friends and you will get more responses even if you start a discussion on an old or repeat topic.

I think it can be pretty arbitrary which discussions get responses and which ones don't. And there are plenty of things you could write about that haven't been covered yet. Just be creative.
