I don't think what you rate other people is an influence on your payout. But I think what other people rate you is an influence on your payout. And an influence on your star number. I give negatives if someone responds to my discussion and they are rude to me. Not for giving an opinion I disagree with...because that's not negative. But if they are rude about it, then they get a negative. Also if their response is completely irrelevant to the discussion.

I've rated a couple as "abuse" because I saw where they blatantly did a copy and paste of someone elses response. Otherwise when I see a good response I give it a positive, even if all I'm doing is scrolling through discussions and not actually answering them.
When people respond to my discussion I almost always rate their answer as a positive even if it's not an opinion I agree with. Everyone has a right to their own opinion? To me, it's a positive they took the time to express their thoughts in writing.

I have only ever reported a couple of discussions and have rated a few negatively mainly for offensive language or content. I don't think it makes much difference to our earnings hun, it is more to do with reputation

If someone does extremely worse, then one may rate him as negative. I am generally a forgiving type. After all no one is perfect in this world. Every one has some weakness or the other. Therefore, I think it is better to be accommodative.
However, at certain times, it is possible that despite warnings and advice, someone does not mend his ways. At that time giving a negative rating may be in order.
Same is the case at MyLot. The best thing here is that no one should break MyLot rules and terms of reference. If I find someone doing it, I better tell him about that and point him to the MyLot terms. May be this will have to be repeated 2-3 times. If nothing happens, then you might think of even reporting him.
Whatever, I would resist leaving any negative rating. I don't know if giving positive rating helps one's own rating. In fact I would like to know that. Can some one let us know? Thanks in advance.

Up until the last week ( because of ill health ,) I have read and rated all of my discussions and also added another response to theirs , I am still reading and rating them all but I have been able to write a bit more to their responses , Yes I have reported people who I see really rude , If someone just says "YES" or "NO" I don't rate them I just ignore them , I have only given a _ twice , I think if someone disagrees with you but is still polite that they still deserve a +that is what the site is all about ,you don't get any more earnings if you give someone a + but you make more friends that way , it is a nice way to say thank you for reading my discussion xx I hope you enjoy My Lot it is a really good site with lovely people xx

I have done it when I felt it was warranted. Not too long after I had joined myLot, there was a certain member who gave me pretty abusive responses to things I wrote in discussions. I reported that person because I felt it was unnecessary to be so mean. I have reported people who gave very short responses or obviously plagiarized responses, because in both cases I felt that they were just trying to work the system to get more points. I came across one user who would respond to discussion after discussion something along the lines of, "My friend, I am so sleepy that I cannot answer now." This led me to wonder, why on earth would someone write that kind of thing over and over unless they were just trying to get points without any meaningful input. So I reported that too.
For the most part, though, and I've been here a long time, I give positive ratings to everyone who has at least tried to put a unique thought together, whether or not I agree with their opinion.

Very rarely have I ever rated anyone with a "-" or reported someone for abuse. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone on a subject, or even a friendly debate. But when a discussion gets to the point that a person is harassing another constantly, or calling names, or just being generally abusive and nasty, that's when the abuse report should be made. It's a difficult decision to make as to whether a report should be sent or not, and I think a lot of people would rather just go on to another discussion (and there is nothing wrong with that at all).

if a person has a good discussion ,i rate them a plus.I have rated abuse but only because the person was cursing and i knew that he /she was very abusive.I really do not like to give a bad rating,i try always to be fair..I would never rate a person bad when his/her opinions do not match mine because they have a right to their opinions...but itd good to try and rate a plus if you can.

When you rate someone positively it does help with their ratings but not payment. I have never had to rate someone negatively I don't think. If I have I don't remember it. I try to be gracious to all commenters that respond to my posts regardless of their opinion. But there are many abusive people out there that need to be rated this, therefore the system was created.

well i know that rating a person + doesnt increases our earnings, but most important here on mylot is the time we spend on mylot, as for rating, i sometimes give + rating , but never - and i too havent abused anybody.

I'm really sure that your earnings don't increase by pressing the + button. This is linked to your star and would only increase the ratings of the person that is linked to the plus button. You really should use the minus button if there is any abuse as this alerts mylot to any 'problem' users.

I don't believe that reporting people who are violating the rules lowers our pay.

I don't know if rating can increase your earnings, but I think it does impact on your own rating. I'm not sure how, though. I just know that people who rate seem to have higher ratings themselves.

i never really rate everyone with abuse. because i didnt had met someone who is abusive. and also i never rate negative because i believe that we differ in opinions and we should never give someone a negative rating if you dont share the same opinion
