When I was a child we lived in the country. I remember we had a wonderful doggy called Laika and when we left to go to my relatives who lived very far, our neighbours looked for our sweet Laika. I live in a town now and things changed. We have another doggie called Socrate and no one can look for him when we go on holiday, but where I live there is a little country in which a family started a sort of "board and lodging" for little animals (dogs and cats) and so we give them our doggie. Infortunately we spend a lot of money, 12 euros a day, but you know, life in Italy is very expensive.

Sammy our traveling cat. - Sammy travels with us when we take our trailer and go camping. He doesn't like riding, but seems to enjoy the each "new" hunting ground! He never runs away, but knows the trailer is "home".
The first time we took a long trip, we left our two cats at home and had someone come in and feed them daily and stay at the house periodically. Since both our cats were outdoor cats, we thought this would work. Well, one of them went crazy, because we were gone six weeks. She was totally wild when we got home. Next time we took our remaining cat with us! While he doesn't like riding that much, he adjusted very well to our camp in the mountains and didn't run away. Now when we travel, our cat does to.

We seldom go away for more than a week. When we go away for more than 1 night I have a professional pet sitter come take care of my two cats. She mostly just feeds them, and they come and go as they please. This is only during the warm months. The thing I like about my pet sitter is that she was a veterinarian technition/assistant when I first met her. I feel a lot more secure knowing that she's keeping an eye on them, and that she knows what to do and where to go if anything happens to one of them. I still get anxious about leaving them, but this arrangement has worked really well so far.

When I lived in a different area I had just one dog. He stayed with a friend. But now the I have two dogs and live far from this friend it is difficult. Last time I went on holiday I got my mum to take care of them. She was around during the day to feed and walk them. But when I came home from my holiday my next door neighbour told me they had barked in the night. She was very annoyed about this. I have got my dogs pet passports now. So they can come with me to suitable destinations. Otherwise I might have to let a professional dog kennel look after them.

Once I gone with my family to the sea for one week. I let my cat alone in my house but I asked a fried of mine to look for my cat once per day. I couldn't took my cat to my friend's house because he is very craven. I didn't send him to a professional care center because he is very craven and I have more trust in my friend than in the professional care center. I think that I acted correctly.

For me, its better to bring themin professional care centers to ensure that they still get their proper maintenance. :)

Hi, when I go off on my travels, then I usually get a friend to stop at my house to look after my pets for me. I have fish, dagus, hamsters and cats so not all would be able to go to care centres so easier for me to have a friend stop and look after all of them at once!

Hello, laltu,i have a dog at home,if i were to be away for few days from home,i would send my dog to my friend who also got a dog at home so that it would not feel bored. My friend also knew how to take care of it so that I do not need to worry,i do not send it to the professional center as my dog may bite to the strangers there.lol.

We usually will send our dog to the kennel where she gets her baths and nails clipped. They have a nice area where the dogs are let out to run and they each have their own kennel to sleep at night. If it for a shorter trip, my mother will come over and spend time with the dog in the morning and in the evening. She will make sure that she has food, water and has been outside.
