What we witness is an erosion of moral values in the modern civilization.Civilization has so far failed to create an environment congenial to the growth of mental and moral activities of mankind.Moral sense is almost being rejected completely in the modern society. The rich command resources of every type. The world of today is dominated by the supremacy of matter over the spirit. Where or how can the common man get peace and salvation ? In their own souls !!!

You are right. Besides your point on moral values, the most wrong thing with modern civilization is the artificial way of living and constant exploitation of Nature. In olden days people on this earth were living in a manner that was more natural and full of regards for Nature. But now-a-days every aspect of our life is not free from artificiality! In the name of development we create hazardous damages to Nature that stands as a major cause of our sufferings. Above all I can say that modern civilization makes machines but spoils MAN and NATURE. Thanks.

Love your new avatar, Sukumar. I agree with you, civilization and society has been unable to provide those things which enable the majority people to grow and develop to the benefit of themselves and everyone else. I don't know the numbers, but I know a lot of people in the world don't have adequate resources of food, health care, education, and a safe environment. The only thing I can think of is that if everyone would do their best to help make sure other people are taken care of, that would be a good start. I believe in helping first anyone in my family, and then my friends, community, state, and country. I feel if I can get other people involved in giving, eventually it will spread, so more and more will be cared for.

You are right. It is said that if all the doors around us is closed, god will open another door which we had never seen. So let us hope for the better

I think nowadays its difficult just to get away from all this... I would have to take myself off to the most remote of areas just to reflect on what is important in the world...not all these superficial things around us 24/7 these days.

You are so right. We all need to get back to the basics of peace and concern with our own souls. Too much is being put on the material things of the world. The moral values are not even a concern to so many anymore. We should never allow matter to take over as it has to so many people.

The harsh reality of today's civilization has created a lot of instabilities in the society. We are now faced with the raw manifestation of the 'survival of the fittest' instinct in virtually everybody. In our worldly struggle for survival, we bend all the natural and spiritual rules of survival. Instead of us being our brothers' keeper, we are now our brothers' peekers, with everyone not trusting the other again. In our rat race for survival, everybody is unto himself. Civilization, science and technology have complicated our survival needs from the basic to the luxury- luxury in feeding, clothing, housing, transportation, education, health, etc., all of which have impacted negatively on the environment. In our competitive racing for survival, we duplicate efforts and costs because everybody is unto himself, making the stronger and luckier have more than he needs while the weaker and less fortunate ones have less than needed for a decent living. Gone are the days of sharing; welcome the days of tearing. Little wonder our new civilization has not brought any peace but wars and dissensions. That is because we let our civilization take us further away from spiritualism and God. That is the missing link.
