why indian cricket team is referred to as Team India?

I feel since cricket is the most popular sport in India which has a huge fan following. Besides it is a team sport. So i feel that's why the term Team India might have been coined to represent indian cricket team. good luck folks. :)

Ya Gaurav... I fully agree with you... Infact Indian cricket team don't deserve this tag at all... A team is the combination of unity among the players.. Its the combined efforts of all the players which forms a team... But our players don't have a team co-ordination at all... Its just a one man's show on a particular day... Thus its totally wrong to call our cricket team as team India... We have our hockey and tennis teams which really deserve to be called as team India...

Indian cricket is mostly a one man show. efforts are rare to make it a team effort. may be the media want to make it a point that team efforts are fruitful than one man shows. I think India is the only place and indians are the only citizens who give cricket the maximum importance through out the world and it is the breath of a common indian's life. Every indian knows that team effort makes India the best team in the world(unfortunately! that is what we lack). So, taking some instances where Indian cricket team has shown a team effort...it may be called team india.

I never thought in that direction ...As it is one of the most popular game in India then by just refering it to Team India ...every one shows thier support to cricket team ...

There are other international indian teams from other sports but one thing we should remember is that this word team india is "media creation " like the word "bodyline" which was also created by media

I think only in cricket Indian cricket team is referred as team India. Most probalby it might be to show the unity of the team or to show that Indian cricket team sticks together as a team. I think no other international or national sports has the name team India. Another name of Indian team is Men in blue. I like both names the team India and Men in blue.
