Should rude, obnoxious members have their discussions automatically deleted?

I have noticed that there has been a big rise of really mean comments on Mylot.I am not talking about disagreeing or saying something a little out of line as i am sure there are a lot of us that have. I am talking about members who use profanity or ridicule a members discussions.I have seen members call others idiots, morons, and other names I don't want to mention.I have seen discussions being ridiculed and other really mean and nasty things.I,myself, had one member call my discussion a lie and referred to it with profanity, this same member also riduled another discussion i made then went to another member 's discussion and not only bad mouthed me but she lied and twisted it around to make it look like she was the victem. There is one thing to disagree and get a little heated but it is another to basically verbally abuse someone and I think discussions where people are being ridiculed or called names or put down in any other way should be automatically deleted. How about you?

I think we have to be careful of so much censorship, The biggest tool we have is the abuse report. Anytime I have had to use it, although mylot did not get back to me I did see that they had intervened. Automatic deletion might hit the wrong people. I do know that mylot will pull off those discussions that are specifically written to call another member out, they just have to be told its going on.

Hi! Actually it wouldn't be censorship as we did agree when we joined not to be verbally abusiveso if mylot were to do something like that,it would be just enforcing the rules.I did hit the abuse button but she is still being nasty.the one you had to respond to abuot the barbs, she is one of the ones I was talking about and if you noticed, she is still putting sarcastic remarks on the front page of this discussion. She is even twisting this discussion around. I guess she just like to start fights but I am not gonna sink to her or the other rude people's level by name calling or being mean.OH,Angel, you have no idea how bad I want to say something nasty back.YOu should read her comment about me at the bottom.Said she was glad that I allowing other people to see what kind of person I really am.I kind of feel sorry for her and other rude people actually.I wonder what makes them like that?

Sugar, I see now that she has targeted you. Why I can not fathom at all. You are being as respectful and showing restraint here as I have ever seen in mylot. Stating an opinion does not mean an attack on the author of a discussion. When someone does this it shows lack of character and vocabulary. One simply does not have the words to get a point across with out using juvenile ways and means. Hang in there.

Automatic deletion is never a good thing, but people should simply report it if they think it crosses the line following the myLot team should look into it and see whether it truly is out of place or not.

Unfortunately, as in life, everyone is entitled to their opinion. And, some people express their opinions differently. There are people out there that like to make themselves feel more superior by putting others down. There's no way around it. And just think, if we didn't have those people in myLot also, we wouldn't have this discussion, so maybe they do serve a purpose!!! Actually, it's best to just let them go do their thing and ignore them. We all know what they're doing so we should just go about our business around them.

"UNFORTUNATELY, as in life everyone is entitled to their opinion?" But it's ok for you to have an opinion and spout it all whenever???!!!???? Do you know what you sound like to people who don't believe in censorship? Sometimes, you control freaks make me want to scratch my rearness. I SWEAR!

I haven't noticed this too much, but I'm sure there are many rude comments here since there are so many members. Mylot probably has a hard time keeping up with all of them. We should do our part and report it. So they are aware of the situation and can do something about it. I'm sure they will delete the discussion or response if it is out of context. Yea I've been called an idiot before. They got rated badly and turned in. It was over a discussion that I had written about cutting. A 16 year old boy called me that and so did a man that said my discussion was stupid and I was just starting it to make money. Which I wasn't. That was something serious that was in my life at the time. That was messed up how the person turned it around and said she was a victim. That can't be possible when you were the one that started the discussion. People will do anything just to get attention and money for responding to your discussion. I also think those kind of responses or discussions should automatically be deleted.

that's awful of them to say that to you. I don't know what makes people tick.I'm having a big problem with a member. I had reported her once cause she was extremely mean in a discussion but her comments are still there and I don't know why cause she was certainly violating mylot's rules. She ridiculed another discussion and she can't getting nasty with this one.

I have noticed some of the same things you are talking about. Some people have even told me that I didn't know what I was talking about on some of the responses I have made. I think things like this should be reported first and then if it continues to be a problem we need to ask MyLot if there is something they can do about it. You are right, it is okay to disagree but it just isn't right to put other people down.

Jersey...different strokes for different folks-ever hear or read that before? Why do you think there are pugilists? Lots of people like physical, verbal or written arguments. It's no big deal. This is where YOUR control comes in. I was just responding to this-what I thought was an interesting post. I didn't realize that it was you that was so caustic earlier. Gads, and you hold grudges, too. If you care to you can read back at other posts or responses of mine and you'll see that I write nice things as well. You want mylot to be your UTOPIA. Well, honey, it ain't. I'll try NOT to answer any of your posts again. But, sadly, I may forget because I don't hold grudges as you do.

Most people give their opinion, based on how they view your post. I don't think it's right that they call one names however, that's juvinile and childish for them to do so. Since mylot is a place to discuss things and a place where people can express themselves, people find it ok to do the things you said. I don't agree with it, I would not want to be called names in my post. Sure people disagree, but at the same time they need to disagree in a more positive way. Instead of saying, the topic sucks and so do you, they could say, I don't agree with you and be done with it. I wish in a way one could block those that were like that, but at the same time we are all entitled to our opinion. Even if we all don't always agree with it.

There is already a lot of censorship on Mylot. Recently most discussions dealing with Islam are deleted no matter how gently they are started. There are an awful lot of nasty people in this world and some use profanity. Since this is an open forum with over 90 000 members there will always be some verbal abusers and people who ridicule others. I don't say profnity is correct and ridicule should be used but you will find it. I think if we state our opinion on Mylot we have to be prepared to encounter people who do not agree with us and even insult us. But if every discussion was censored and only nice comments would be allowed it would take away from free speech. Don't get me wrong, I have never used profanity or ridiculed anyone but I have seen my rating plummet because people did not agree with me and rated negatively. That in a way is a tool to discourage abuse also.

All you can do is report the offenders to the administration and hope they deal with it. It is never right to voice your disagreement in a mean-spirited or vulgar way. Just ignore them and don't engage them. All they want is a response of any sort. If everyone ignored the cretins, they would go away.

I only had to report two people since I joined. One was for another member and one was for a member who is just unbelievabley rude to me and others. If you want to get a taste of what i mean, check out the first page. She is really sarcastic but it is nothing compared to the other discussions of mine she answered.I reported her about a month or so ago but she is still being nasty.I think people like her just like to start fights .I am not gonna start in with the name calling and verbal abuse if that is what she or any other member thinks.

you are right there. we all have to do our share by ticking on the (!) rating and then report abuse to mylot admin. users may be banned from this site if they make it a habit to abuse the forum. let us all do our share so we can shake off the presence of these undersirable people here in mylot.

Yes, and member who is abusive should be deleted. If these people can not have an adult discussion, in a professiional manner, then they are no better than illdisiplined school kids. Bad language is in the same catergory, as most peole would find it abusive. My Lotters should report anyone who uses profanity or who is abusive in any way.

Thank you Jenny. People keep talking about censorship but they don't realize we all agreed to not call other members names and not to verbally abuse the members. If people are ignoring that rule,it isn't censorship if mylot does something about it

all of us here in mylot should start to report to mylot admin all abuses committed by members around here. these abuses have become prevalent. a posted discussion which has been only asking opinions suddenly gets bombarded instead of getting the opinions of those who had cared to respond. no one among us here, who are sanely doing discussions, will ever desire something like this to b e taking place.

Jerseygirl, I am sorry that you have had to endure such behavior first hand....I see absolutely no reason for a person to be mean when responding to these discussions....afterall, they have the choice to respond or not.....nobody is forcing them to read or respond..... Some folks just thrive on this type of behavior...do not let it get you down, my friend.

There is no excuse for verbal abuse on a public forum such as this. Ok, so there are times when dicussions can become a little *heated* but when it degenerates into rudeness and abuse then it has to stop.

If there are certain members who are being consistnatly rude, and obnoxious and fail to post anything that is of any use or interest whatsoever whole all the time posting intentionally nasty and abosive, why not just go the whole hog and have MyLKot ban them? If they have become such a nuisance as to be classed a 'Troll' then perhaps there is no place on MyLot for them at all.

Those who are being rude, disrespectful, and obnoxious should have their posts deleted, but it should not be automatic. When something is done automatically, there are often too many errors. Better to have the posts looked at by a human being.

Even though i'm only been into myLot for 2 weeks now, i did saw some members who should have kept their responses for themselves instead of trying to hurt the feelings of the ones sharing their thoughts. honestly i really don't like those kind of people at all who just wants to get the attention for themselves at the expense of other members. I believe we have rules here, and in as much as i respect the freedom of every community member of myLot, some people ought to be taught some lesson and have their malicious posts removed.

Automatic deletion goes against freedom of speech. Anybody who abuses others or calls them names shows himself or herself for what they are, and they look far worse than the one they try to belittle. I think that each of us should make a point of giving such members a negative rating and perhaps inform the managers of this site. I am not sure if automatic deletion is the answer.

I don't think automatic deletion would be against freedom of speech .WE all agreed to not verbvally abuse anyone when we joined mylot. If mylot were to enforce that, that is not censhorship

In life if somebody is rude to me I try to ignore them and be the better person, unless they hit a raw nerve and then I give them what for. There are rude people every place you turn in every day life and you have to deal with it in what ever way works best for you.Ok so we are talking about MyLot, but if you spend time on here then it is part of your real life. Not abusing other members is part of the rules here. We should all try to get along. But don't forget that when we see something written as opposed to hearing it said it is very easy to make a mistake about the persons meaning or intentions. So much of meaning is conveyed through tone of voice and body language. Take for example your use of "WE all agreed" in your response to me. The we is in block capitals, I assume it is for emphasis and I could choose to perceieve that as being snippy and be unkind as a result. I will, however, give you the benefit of the doubt.;) Finally what we think consntitutes abuse can sometimes be our own oversensitivity. So are we talking about the automatic deletion of posts that are extmremely abusive and include direct name calling, so that an objective reader would find them unkind? Or are we talking about the deletion of posts you think could be unkind because you are having a bad day and this caused you to misinterperet it?
