Yes, we do that. To us, the house should be a clean and comfortable place. Wearing your shoes in the house just spreads the dirt all over the place. If we really need to wear something due to the cold weather, we will normally wear a pair of slippers, it's an indoor slippers which means it should not be worn outside at the same time. In this way, we're still able to keep the floor clean and nice... In another places...like in asian part it is not only a good habit to remove your shoes before you enter ones house but it's also apart of their culture. Throughout history, it's a sign of respect to remove shoes before you enter... Do you take off your shoes before entering a house?

Usually in my own house I will keep my shoes on inside. I'm in and out of the house constantly now that is warmer outside. Gardening and such. I find it annoying to have to keep putting my shoes back on or slipping something over them constantly when coming inside to get a drink or something I may have forgotten. Though when I go to another person's house I always take my shoes off. Even if they say I can keep them on, I still take them off out of respect of helping them keep their house clean and the way I entered it.

Hello, augustta,i will always take off the shoes before entering my living room,i will just leave them at the drawers near the door because i do not want to find any dirt from my shoes in my house,i will wear slippers at home. I will also do the same thing when I am visiting someone's house,it seems that it is our culture to do so.

We take them off once we get in the house. It can get windy outside and I've lost a few pairs of shoes from this lol. So I have mats right by the door that are out to take shoes off on.

yea it is a part of my culture, everyday for the 18 years i lived at home i would get yelled at if i didn't take my shoes off before i walked inside, and i pretty much habve the same rule in my house even though its taking my husband a little time to get used to it, but i got two little ones wantin to pick everything and anything they find on the floor and put it in their mouth so i don't need any germs on my carpet

I do it too and allways want the people to do it. It`s not just because of the clean house. The more important reason is that i just want to feel comfortable. My feet need a rest too. And usually i offer to my guests slippers.

Our main room is tile, so we keep our shoes there... we usually walk around the house without our shoes. When I lived with my parents still, they didn't want us to have our shoes on in the house... same with my aunt's house, where we spend a lot of our times because it's where the family gathers. I think it's just to keep the carpets and the surfaces clean when we are inside... there is no real disrespect in keeping our shoes on, it's more to keep things inside clean and tidy without "bringing the outside indoors" as my grandmother would say.

Hello, you know its amazing that that you ask that!I expect people to take their shoes off and I take my shoes off whenever I go into someone elses house but I notice that people here just dont....its so frustrating people just walk straight into my home with their shoes on and not that I am a clean freak or anything but as soon as they leave I have to vac and mop it drives me nuts even more so that I dont have the guts to say something to them....I should put a sign up at the door! its even more frustrating when I have little ones who spend most of their time on the floor,I wish it was tradition here ( Australia ) !!

Yes I do take off my shoes before entering the house. I am from Asia and that is part of our culture to take off or remove the shoes before going inside the house, whether you are entering your own house or the house of others.

We practice a no shoes policy in our house. Most of our house is carpeted so I really hate having someone walk all over the carpets and get it dirty especially if I've just vacuumed it. Plus, it's a lot harder to get dirt out of carpet. I also like to practice that when I go to other people's houses cos' I really don't want to mess up their floors as well.

As pointed out by you Augusta, it is part of our culture to remove our footwears before entering a house, either ours or any other house we visit. Inside our own house I don't use any chappals or slippers, but my wife uses. She says that the cold from the marble floor will cause her some rhumatic pains in her leg. Usually it is done as a gesture to respect the house, but the hygenic value behind the action is more important. In Kerala some people do not enter their house without washing their feet. every time they come from outside they use to wash their feet before entering the house.

It is not a part of the culture where I live. But I take off my shoes when I enter another persons home. I just feel like it is respectful. I have known many people in my life that do not where shoes in their home and since I never know if someone new has that tradition I just do it out of respect. We do not remove our shoes before entering the house around my home. The main reason we don't is because of all the shoes that collect near the door and it drives me nuts. When I lived in a more northern, cold location of my country as a child everyone had a special room called a mud room where shoes were left to dry. We don't have such designated spaces where I live now. We keep shoes on and walk back to the bedroom to remove them for my sanity.
