Now this is a friend ... ever had anyone borrow your comptuer and come to find out they downloaded some software that boggs your computer down?? Well it happened to me today. A friend of my boyfriend's was working on his computer to try and attain his administrator password that he had lost and got on my computer to try and burn a CD, next thing I know I can't get online, everytime I try to do anything my computer freezes, when I asked him, he says "oh yeah I downloaded some software but could not find it in prgrams when it was downloaded" how frustrating this has been for me, ever happened to you?

I've had issues with my son and grandsons when they use my computer. The son downloaded music and I got a virus years ago. My grandson seemed to have deleted a lot of files one day trying to open up my slot machine games. Hahahaha! So Now the grandsons only use my computer with me or my daughter present in the office with them. My son isn't living here so he's not around to use it. My daughter will use it ion the weekends when she visits and I have no problems with that either. I just don't let a lot of others use it as I fear what may become of it.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

The worse part of it is I can't get the software off my comptuer now, although you know it is running in the background since it is slowing everything down, I hate this, thanks for contributing Bob

Yea those are a good way. I suppose if there are a lot of programs I might just get fed up and reformat the whole pc and reinstall everything. At least I get a fresh pc. I do reformatting once in a while just to speed things up and get rid of any unnecessary programs that are lurking around.

Yeah i had friends borrow my computer and download stuff, go to websites that i said no to, got viruses galore and then didn't tell me when my virus software popped up to say 'you just received a virus' and so and so forth, i even had certain websites blocked and they went through my block list just so they could get on the site after i specifically said no.
It's such a pain, that's when you say no computer what's so ever, i just get so mad sometimes, my computer is my computer, i have a lot of stuff on here and i can't take the chance of losing some of it, or having any more problems, yeah i do the backups, but geesh.....
Now not even family gets on this thing, my computer is child protected so my roomies can't mess anything up, and it's safe for everything :D

what a pain, i would tell him what was on my mind, people don't touch the most important pieces of stuff to me and mess it up and get away with it.

Maybe you can put in an undo card. Takes care of virus very well because anything new on the pc gets deleted when you shut down the computer. The downside is that its a bit annoying if you want to save anything on the computer. Maybe you can have a protable hard disk to save stuff on.
Ofcourse you can always deactivate the undo card options when you want to save something on the computer.

There is nothing more RUDE than to do things like that. In 2005 the roomie's nephew lived with us for a few months. I finally got a cheap computer so he'd quit being on ours & downloading junk.
Its not his computer, he shouldn't have downloaded ANYTHING!
Tell him that he is no longer allowed on your computer & think that you now know WHY his is messed up!

Well first of all....no one..and I mean no one would be allowed to use my computer anyway...hehehe...and I certainly wouldn't even if I did let one of my friends use it let them download anything...since I have a Mac computer I just can't or won't accept anything Windows related...my computer is Windows capatable but I stay far away from anything Windows--it's like welcoming viruses with open arms--and it sounds to me that you might have a few bugs in your computer now--if that's the case...and you need repairs..tell the person to foot the bill!!!

My nephew used my computer one time and I told him not to download anything well come to find out HE did oh I got so upset since then I don't let anyone use my computer anymore and besides that they wouldn't let anybody uses their either so why can I be selfish for once? I am so tired of anyone running me over. At least he told you that he downloaded something but he should have asked you first.

I lock my pc. They can only use the guest account. They can't install anything without knowing the administrator password. If they like to download something sure, but they can't install anything.

IT did happen for me. My friend who has a consulting company wanted to use my laptop since one of his consultants had an interview. When he gave me back the laptop i noticed it was so slow, and within a day when i tried to reboot it just did not reboot. I had to spend $150 on fixing tha mother board. I then found out that the consultant had actually downloaded a huge software for which he had the interview.learnt my lesson and never again my laptop to nobody.

I hate when that happens.
I have my computer and I am the only one allowed on it.
I have 2 other computers for my kids (and husband) and if they want to d/l something..it had better be on one of those. When the computer gets slow..I have taught them how to go in and remove old programs that they thought they needed.

I would have strangeled him =) I have a brother that did this once and after that he is no longer allowed on any of my computers since I had to reset the whole thing... UI would never ever download something on someone elses computer , that is just rude!

Your boyfriend must not be too savvy with computers. How can he download something and not know where it went? :P
I haven't lent my computer to others before. However, I borrowed from others before. If I install something, I will remove it and restore the computer to its original state before returning. It is only polite to do it this way - unless you have the person's permission to do otherwise.

This happened to me before and it was very frustrating to have my computer used by my brother only to know the day later that he had installed Kazaa *AND* Limewire on it. By the time I got to use it, it was filled with spyware and I have to go through the arduous task of cleaning it up.
Thank God for anti-spyware software.

My kids do that and they are forbidden to do it anymore, but they do it anyway. I also have a friend who is computer illiterate and she os forever getting me to go over and fix all the problems that her kids have caused by doing the very same thing.
They also DELETE things they shouldn't, and cause no end of trouble.. Very annoying to say the least!

My computer is in our living room, and my roommate had a party one night. Some of her friends downloaded something onto my computer, and it took me quite a while to track it down and actually delete all of it. I think it may have been related to the viruses that my computer had later.
I told her that if she was going to have another party, I didn't mind if they used the computer for music, but I was going to password it so that they couldn't use the internet or anything else.
