Surprise!

My daughter works as a lab technician in a doctor's clinic. A woman came in to the doctor today complaining of stomach pains and problems in urinating. She said she had had a miscarraige a few months back, but other than that, nothing new or unusual. The doctor was going to catheterize her, thinking her urinary tract was blocked or something, and lo and behold, upon examination...there was a baby's head crowning and ready to be born! LOL! What a surprise! They had to rush her to the hospital. Talk about shock! First to think she had been pregnant and lost the baby, dealt with that, and now to be surprised with the baby after all! My word!

That is wonderful. I had had 3 miscarraiges before my first son was born. With the last one, I went to the hospital and they said my hormone levels were still high and I needed a D7C. I was so distraught after having 3 miscarraiges already, I never went back to the hospital for the D&C. About 2 weeks later I was feeling strange, so i went and bought a home pregnancy test. it came back positive, so I went to the doctor thinking I would have to end up having the D&C after all. They ran tests and found me to be pregnant. I had been apparently pregnant with twins and had aborted only 1. Good thing I never went for that D&C or my eldest wouldn't be here right now.

OH MY GOODNESS!! She must've been carring twins! I'm sure that was quite the surprise! But I suspect that she might need to talk about a malpractice suit against her OB/GYN. Unless, of course, she just didn't follow up after losing the first baby. With some people its like pulling teeth to get them to the doctor!

I don't understand, esther. You mean to say that the woman didn't know she is pregnant? Doesn't she look pregnant at all? But its a miracle that the baby is still there. It pure amazing. The woman must be overjoyed with this discovery.

I knew somebody personally who gave birth to a healthy baby boy without knowing about the pregnancy. She was overweight that's why the pregnancy bulge was thought to be just additional weight gain. While on a road trip with her family she experience pains which turn out to be labor pains. She was brought to a hospital and gave birth to her first born.

Wow! isn't that incredible! I wonder if she had twins and did spontaneously abort one while the other continued to live. At any rate, sure is good that the doctor who attended her miscarriage did not order a d&c!

What happen could have been a nightmare. or was it a miracle? To think that she had lost the baby when the baby was in fact "surviving". How reliable is her gynae. The baby really has a super strong will to survive outside the womb.

Hopefully the baby was ok!! It would be quite a shock, but cannot imagine not being able to tell the baby was still there.

Wow, that is really something....I wonder if it were a first or something. While it isn't exactly the same thing I have a story about a surprise pregnacy. I went to La Paz, Bolivia on TDY in the early mid-60's and of course made a lot of new friends and colleagues. About three weeks after I returned to Washington I heard that one of my secretaries had given birth. Funny thing is she didn't know she was pregnant....at least she never told anyone... and none of her co-workers, including myself, even suspected anything of the sort. Seems that at the office New Year's party she complained of stomach pains. They took her to the hospital where shortly after arrival she gave birth. Our boss grabbed the girl's boyfriend and "forcefully" said that he would have to marry her. The young man was quite indignant as he had never even touched her. Seems that her previous boyfriend, also a Marine Guard at the Embassy, had been transferred to Montevideo and he was the father. She had taken Rest and Recreation (R&R) to get out of the altitude and had gone to Montevideo where the "fun and games" took place. Nice ending.....they were married after they both returned to Washington. He couldn't be married as an enlisted man serving overseas.

What a happy ending! My mom, after having miscarriages, always was anxious throughout subsequent pregnancies. This woman was spared that. I do know of a woman who has been pregnant twice without knowing it, and it was her third an fourth child. I am glad for this happy post.

Shock is probably more the word than surprised I would think. Imagine it .. they would not have been prepared at all for a baby .. depending what they had for a baby at the time she had the miscarriage. Wonder if they had to treat her for shock as well as the birth. Wonder how far along she was when she had the miscarriage .. and if this baby that was born was on time or early. Imagine not knowing you were pregnant for those few months. It must have been joy for her to find that she had a baby after all .. what anguish she must have suffered when she had a miscarriage though. She must have been having twins or else someone stuffed up very badly here .. telling her she had suffered a miscarriage. Let's hope she did nothing wrong in those last few months .. smoking and drinking sorts of things I mean.

Thats so odd. Its crazy how life works that way. One day I was reading a magazine and there was an article about a woman who went to the doctors complaining of stomach pains one day and turns out she was pregnant and was in labor! She had no clue until that moment that she was even pregnant. She what happened WAS the baby had been growing behind a muscle in her stomach, so she had not gotten bigger and not experience morning sickness or anything. She literalyl had no clue she was pregnant until she was delivering the baby!

I'm surprised that she didn't go in sooner because of feeling movement. That baby must have one very still baby. All of mine were very actice. They kicked and pushed all the time. This had to be a very nice surprrise for here.

That is an unusual situation, but one with a happy ending. I agree that she must have been carrying twins. Wow, to go to the doctor thinking you are ill when you are trying to go into labor with a baby you didn't even know you were carrying...if that's not irony I don't know what is. What a surprise for her and her family. She is truly blessed to have a healthy baby. My best wishes to her and the child.

Wow, what shock for the woman, to think you have lost a baby and then later on give birth. Its amazing the hospital did not give her a scan after her miscarrage to check her. I wonder if she felt the baby moving inside her and thought it was bad wind? It must be alot to deal with, giving birth without realising you are carrying a baby. I have heard of cases like this before.
