I've smoked for many years. I'll quit. I do need a little help to get over the edge. My doctor recommended Welbutrin (well it's generic form). I read the contraindications and I'm wondering what people who've tried to quit have used to help them. If you've used welbutrin what was your experience? If you know of a better method, what is it and what was the experience like?

Welbutrin made me a vegetable, I could not think while I was taking it. I hated it and eventually stopped taking it before quiting. However, my brother George took and quit and has not smoked in over 7 years. So I guess it depends on the person.

I took Welbutrin for depression a few years back for about a month, my doctor also said it would help me quit smoking. I only took it for a month because it had the total opposite effect on me than it was supposed to. For some reason this happens to me with various prescriptions. Anyway, the stuff made me wired. I was fidgety, jumpy, and totally irritable. Not saying that will be the case with you. If you're looking for something to felp you quit smoking ask your doc about Chantix. It works incredible, I have only met one person that has taken it and it hasn't worked for them, and I think in that case it was more of a willpower issue than anything. Good luck and welcome to myLot!
