I recently started a discussion about God answering prayer. At the end of it I said that I would report atheists that got nasty.
Gosh I didn't mean to scare anyone away.
I would love to hear the views from the other side of the fence. I only wanted them to be presented nicely. You know no one calling anyone names and such for thier beliefs.
I am kinda disappointed I thought at least one atheist or agnostic would answer. Not a one.
I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare anyone away from my discussion. I just wanted to make sure that it stayed polite.
Do you think I scared people away? Are you someone I scared away?
If you are someone I scared away please feel free to reply to the discussion as long as you don't call anyone stupid or anything else for believing.

I saw that discussion and yes, it scared me away from answering. I have come to the conclusion that it is very risky to disagree with some people on Mylot. I have seen my rating plummet from an 8 to a 6 just because I stated my opinion without being nasty or abusive. So when I saw your warning at the end of your post that scared me away because usually people do not post warnings as part of their discussion.

First of all I love your name!
As far as being nasty... I was concerned that someone might say something like "you are so stupid for believing that". I just didn't want that to happen cause I have seen similar things in other threads.
I am sorry you have seen "religious" people be nasty. I hope I have NEVER come across like that.

I was not scared away, nor am I agnostic or an athiest. I love God. Do not worry about scaring anyone away sugar. If they were ment to hear or reply, they would. God bless you.

Everyone is busy and if they are like me, they skim the discussions and pick and choose. Some, I just pass over depending on if I'm too tired to get into "something controversial" , or maybe I just feel like responding to easy discussions and not something I have to put much thought into. I don't have a lot of time that I spend here, so sometimes I just miss a lot of discussions. I guess you should have said "calling all...atheists, agnostics, and all others...tell me what you believe and why"...but then, that would be a discussion they would have to put a lot of thought in to...and some days that's too much effort! LOL

lol... sorry, but your headline made me giggle!
I'll go look for the discussion you mentioned, I don't usually abuse anyone until they've hated on me a few times. People just have to remember, whatever you believe, whatever your faith (or lack thereof), there are billions and billions of perfectly sound and reasonable folks on the planet who think you are mistaken. It's that simple. Can't we just all get along?

I honestly didn't even see the discussion. I will take a look. I know I replied to your discussion about why people don't believe in god.

Hi there, I almost responded to that discussion, but decided against it. It looked like a friendly discussion btween people of the same faith, rather than a debate topic. I figured any kind of opinion from a non-believer, no matter how politely worded, would sound rude and out of place.
I keep pretty civil as a rule; I avoid comparing God to fairy tales, and don't make insulting remarks about others' religions. I tried one other experiment where I entered a "feel good" Christian discussion with the observation that part of what they were discussing was insulting toward atheists, and my rating dropped from 10 to 8.
I don't care about my rating that much, but I don't want to get a reputation as a person who follows Christians around bothering them for the heck of it. That's not the type of person I am at all.
I do love a debate, so if you want to start a similar topic where atheists don't have to worry about causing offense, count me in :).

I didn't see that discussion, because I haven't been online much in the last few days. But it's an interesting point.
Perhaps instead of saying you would report any atheists that got nasty, you should have said you would report anyone who got nasty? Or said "Anyone may reply if they do so nicely"?
I'm not either atheist or agnostic, so I can't reply to show you that view. But I know I have avoided answered discussions that seem aimed at members of one religious group that I wasn't a part of before. I'm trying to get over that. My current view is that if something is under "religion" and not the name of a specific religion, then it's fair game. =p

If someone acknowledges he/she is an atheist or agnostic there are 20 people standing in line to convert them. Different points of view are great but it just seems to me that if I tell a christian I am a pagan they instantly start preaching the christian god at me. I dont try and convert people to paganism but yet I hear how god still loves me and how I should just blindly believe. Not all people want, need, or believe in the same god. Maybe just listen to their point of view without judging them.
