What do you think of polygamous relationships?

I saw this episode in the Tyra show about polygamous relationships.
There are three or four people committed to each other. Children are even brought up in a polygamous household.
I really cannot see myself in this situation. Sharing "my man" to another woman. Or having two/three lovers at the same time. This is just totally wrong (no offense to whoever is in this kind of relationship).

Personally I do think that relationships like this is disgusting and that it shouldnt be allowed. the reason - THE KIDS. I do not think that kids should be brought up like this. If grown people wanna live like this - go ahead but do not involve kids.
I would never ever live like this. My man is mine and I am his. I would never share him with someone else, that would just be wrong for me.

I agree with you.I cannot keep silent and tolerate other women sharing my husband. This relationship emphases husband's rights in the family and ignores wife's equal rights. If husband can have more than one wife so why not wife can marry more than one husband?--I know this rant is immature but it's really hard to share my husband with other women.

For me personally, I couldn't do it. But I don't feel I have the right to tell others what they do is wrong. Each person must set their own boundries.

yes, I too cannot imagine this with my husband either. And he can't imagine why ny man would want more than one wife - he says one is quite enough trouble lol. I suppose if this is what you are used to it wouldn't be as big a problem, though jealousies would arise from time to time.
A large number of the polygamous relationships in the world are in the Islamic world and can be arranged or even forced marriages. If it was the case that you were a young girl who didn't want to be married to some old man, you would probably prefer that he had a few other wives - at least he wouldn't be raping you every night.
I don't agree with forced marriages and I think if men can do it (polygamous relationships or polyandry) why not women.

It works well in many parts of the world where women have a lot of work to do and appreciate the help that several women can share the load.
If the man earns enough to keep them all (I struggle to keep up with one wife, haha) then in a matriarchal society he can be called upon when needed to perform his male duties and then 'put back on the shelf'. The women rule.
The children grow up in an extended family and have a great time as most large families do.

I don't know how they do this...Is completely insane in my opinion.Marriage is a relationship between 2 people.I really don't understand why woman would do this..share the husband, have kids..share everything with other woman!.For Men...Unfortunately ,they would accept this (some of them),because they would have benefits with this crazy idea. Different wives every night, all the attention ... It's disgusting to me.

Why has every responder thus far assumed it had to be one man with more than one woman? There can be differences, and then there's the whole concept of "group relationships as well--multiple men and women.
Polygamy, although we think of it as, one man and several women, that's the common notion, but it could be one woman and 2 or more men, or it could be a homosexual, lesbian relationship, and again, it could be swingers living together. Note, I do not advocate, support, or understand such a lifestyle, I just thought I'd point out the semantics and assumptions involved here. (Having one woman in my life, already keeps me on my toes, I don't know how anyone can handle more than one mate at the same time.)

Yeah, you're right. The one I'm referring to (the Tyra show), had group relationships. More than 1 man and 1 woman was involved in the polygamy.
And so far, different people have so many different opinions and things to say to this topic.
I'm glad I made this post. =)
By the way, thanks for letting us hear what you think.

I think its disgusting, and really just an excuse to fool around on your spouse. Did you ever notice, though, that most people see nothing wrong with a man having more than one wife, but when women have 2 or 3 husbands, she is treated like nothing more than a who're

Polygamy, i think is just seriously Disgusting, its allowing a man to act like a perved pig, and the women just sit back and say ok b/c either 1 ... they dont want to lose the person their with or 2 they enjoy having ... 3some, 4some, ... 7some ... whichever ... its wrong and i would hope that children wouldnt be raised under those circumstances b/c they would be raised to believe that behavior like this is ok ... I saw a show the other night based on this and i remember one of the women that was apart of the Polygamy had stated to the viewers or whoever that disagreed with this that ... she didnt care what any one else had to say about what anyone thought about her and her relationship .... all i can say is that it's a good thing b/c if she did care ... then she would be drowned in negativity

I do not think it is wrong by any means, It would be for you because you think so. The people involved consent to it, therefore it isn't wrong for them.
Now, me personally, no way I would have many wives, living with more than one woman would lead to my total insanity.

A close friend of mine has both a male and female partner, she is the 'dominant' factor in the relationship, though many people on firt meeting them assume that 'he' has two girls, whearas in fast 'she' has one of each. Whilst its not something I would ever consider, I do know that in this case all three of them care deeply for each other and cannot imagine life without both of their partners. I find it hard to feel that we should censor what is a private agrememt between consenting adults.

This is a rather thought-provoking topic. Under most circumstances, I do not believe that most people can handle, emotionally, the strain that comes with having more than one partner. One has to consider what kind of example does this provide for the children? Are you increasing the risk of molestation or incest? Is there the ever-present risk of that green-headed monster (jealousy) rearing its ugle head? Some people might be able to make this work, but I don't personally know any that do. (Other than some Mormons (not of the official Mormon church)that are arrested now and then on the news.)

i'm against polygamy too. it's not fair on the 1st wife and the children. plus if the husband truly love his wife, why would he want fall for another lady and get married to that lady? i can never understand this. .
