I think 3 is a good age. This way they are already aware of their surroundings. It's never to early to get them accustomed to the water and teach them how to act in the water and swim. I've seen classes for mom's and newborns for swimming before... I think it's a great idea!

i garee the earlier the better, if you leave it too late they will develop a fear for the water(even a slight one can hinder you). Get them in now, at three they will love it after a few times.

I don't think that there is to young of an age to teach children to swim, our local Y starts teaching when they are infants, they say thats the best time.

the earlier the better. this way they won't be afraid of the water. even if its not swimming your teaching. let them just splash and kick until you feel comfortable to teach them.

i think children should be taught how to swim as babies then maybe we would have less drownings.

nope, not at all, I heard as young as newborn is a great time......It's good to teach them young, because they are generally fearless most of the time...

A child is never too young to learn to swim. I used to go with a friend who took her baby to a newborn swim class, and the baby loved it. My children started around 4 I guess because that was the youngest any program would take them.

It's never too early. I took my boys from when they were babies. Obviously I didn't actually try to teach them then! /but it's done them a lot of good to be used to water. I took my oldest to a parent and toddler swim session from when he was about a year old now I don't really get chance to take the baby but I'll still take him as often as I can. Of course, it's harder when you've got two to teach!

I dont think 3 is too young at all. I feel the sooner you get them used to teh idea (by getting them in a pool) the more comfortable they will hopefully be and the easier it will be to teach them.

I definately think that everyone should know how to swim. I was about 2 1/2 - 3 when my dad taught me how to swim. I picked up on it really quick. Some kids won't pick up on it quite as fast, but I think the sooner the better. It'll at least give them time to get used to the water before learning how to swim if nothing else. :)

i think that introducing newborns to water is a brilliant idea. Its a good way to get the comfortable with it and it will help ease them into swimming
