Actually, there is food that is frozen that doesn't have preservatives, that is relatively low in sodium, calories and saturated fat and tests fairly well. These dinners are Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine, and Smart Ones. I think they are very good and tasty. As for as a microwave being a health concern, I don't think it is true, there is one organization (non-profit) that is called "Center for Science in the Public Interest" which ran an article about microwaves a while back. Here is the article for you to read:
http://www.cspinet.org/nah/04_05/microwavemyths.pdf
It is a PDF file so you will need Adobe Acrobat or some other software that can open a PDF file, the article comes from their April 2005 edition of their magazine. Cheers!

Usually the only time I have microwave meals is if it is a particularly hot day. It seems no matter what I have tried, my kitchen is a heat magnet and it gets pretty hot in there, so on those days I try to stay away from the stove or oven. Don't want to be adding to the heat, since the kitchen at the moment also serves as my make shift office.

Well i used to once, but now each time i put somthing in the microwave, it tastes like rubber, and yes i do know how to use the microwave stove and gril..Lol
So i just made my mind that i am not using it anymore.
It is bad for your health, the food tastes terrible and you always put it less time or more then you are supposed to. So when i am tired to start and heating food in the ordinery way i just eat somthing cold, and it works fine for me.

I use my microwave a lot too. It is certainly a lot easier and quicker. I also use my slow cooker a lot for meals. I can put all the ingredients in and just let them cook. I go through and stir them ever once in a while as I make my way back through and that is it.

Well, this the first time I heard that cooking or heating food in microwave can be bad for your health. Here in India, microwave cooking has caught up in a big way, what with more and more women working and families becoming nuclear day by day. Heating and re-heating food cooked say, day-before-yesterday or ready-to-eats bought off the shelf are cooked mainly in the microwave and it tastes great. It also saves a lot of money on gas and time (a great boon indeed for working moms!) We also use it extensively at home and just love the convenience. I am yet to come across any adverse effect of microwave cooking. What adverse effects have you come across?

If you also plan to make soup, maybe using that as the water to make your soup with might be an idea.

Yes, you could aso use what little water you use for cooking in the microwave. When I was a head chef, the microwave was used a lot, as it was healthier food, and it cooked faster, speed is important in that job, especially when theres around 1000 3 course meals to get out as fast as possible, and as tasty as possible.

oven food tastes better, comes out crunchier, heated throughout without pockets of cold still left over.
that being said, i use to microwave ALL the time. i don't see what's bad about it - it's just radio waves that stimulates the water molecules and heats 'em up. we're surrounded by radio waves all the time - these just happen to be more intense. :)

neither do i see anything wrong about using microwave ovens. when it was introduced in the market decades ago, i can still remember that the demonstration they did was on cooking some meats and vegetables using the thing. then the last was they cooked a cake. everything tasted good then.

I don't cook that many foods in the microwave, I do make baked potatoes, because it is faster, but most food I cook on the stove or in the oven. I mainly use my microwave to reheat things or thaw things, and to make a cup of tea.
But I have to admit, I love my microwave, it has made life a whole lot easier for me, compared to when I was first married and young and didn't have one.

Hi Augustta,Well, I use the microwave to heat up left over food from the day before. My husband works nights so when he comes home form work, he heats up his food in the microwave that I made that day. I also cook my frozen vegetables in the microwave. So yes, I do use the microwave.

No I don't use microwave always..!!
Its starnge but I like cooking food all in hot kitchen..!! That to without a chimney!! he he !
We do cook in microwave but only then when we are not feeling to cook so we just put things in microwave and pop 'your food is ready!!'
Actually I am more of a spicey food lover so I like to "make" the gravy up with all those mouth watering ingredents all in the pan..!! An exact Indian dish (spicey) with a pinch of every thing!!
That cannot be done in a microwave so we don't use microwave mostly..!!
As most of our dishes needs deep frying and rosting so we prefer using stove!!
Have a nice day.

We nearly always cook with ordinary oven, but do have a microwave. When they first came on the market, they were saying they were healthier because vegetables kept all their vitamin contents. Then somebody said, you are "nuking" your food and it can't be good for you, so I don't know who to believe. I use it if I am on my own quite often just to heat food up and have done for years. I can't say that I've ever felt ill because of it. I don't like cooking from scratch in it though as it doesn't taste the same as conventional cooking.

I don't actually cook food with a microwave. I do however use the microwave to warm up leftover food. My children use it to make popcorn or to heat up some water to make up instant noodles.
I don't cook anything in the microwave because I don't like how it tastes or how rubbery the food is.

I often use microwave. But sometimes when I'm starving in the midnight, I use microwave to cook my food.
Fast solution when starving :D
