Stay at home mom guide - Jus a pic to describe my topic

Recently I was watching The View, the discussion they were having was about whether or not stay at home mothers should get paid by the state they live in. Im a stay at home mother and it is literally the hardest job ever. Our job is 24 hours 7 days a week..the only time we get a break is when the kids are napping or at school. So the question is.. Should the state pay us for choosing to be stay at home moms???? Thoughts anyone?

I don't think so. my mum raised me single handed, and worked hard to do so. in the UK there are a lot of people that think that because they have children they should get given money by the government. (benefits) to me this seems really unfair. I choose not to have children. I don't particularly like them, and they cost a lot of money. in an ideal world people wouldn't keep having children regardless of whether or not they can afford to look after them.

I am a stay at home mom too right now. I have been getting unemployment because i was fired for an unjust reason. And i have realized how much i love being here with the kids even though they never listen to me and drive me insane. My unemplyment is just about done and i am probualy going to have to get a job again outside the home which i am not looking forward to. I have looked into several online jobs but nothing has stood out at me that isnt a scam really or could make my family the money I need. And mother hood is by far the toughest job there is and it is a never ending job. So I think yes it should be concidered why not right, i know people that are out there able to work and get ssi becasue they cant read or write their own name so why shouldnt motheres get compensted for being with their children all the time.

i had a side note... There would have to be some criteria set up for it too that some how regualted things, as hard as that may sound the state could figure it out

Im sure the state could set up criteria and really figure out how to pay us for being home But they question is will they ever?? My answer is probably not. They pry see it as we chose to be home and not make any money but I guess in the end we really do get paid BECAUSE WE CAN STAY HOME AND WATCH OUR LITTLE ONES GROW & LEARN THINGS ABOUT LIFE WE WOULD MISS IF WE WERE WORKING...SO IN THE END I GUESS WE ARE GETTIN OUR REWARD. thanks for sharing

No, I don't think stay at home Moms should get paid by the government. It's your choice to stay at home. I think it's a noble one, but, as a taxpayer, I'm not going to pay you to do so.

I didn't give birth to my kids in Austria but we've been here for 2 years now, and we actually get money deposited into our bank every 2 months for having kids. it's over 100 bucks a month per child. Not just a tax break but actual cold hard cash in your bank. Here you get paid maternity/paternity leave for the first 2 years of the child's live. You pay less taxes. Very low cost annual bus passes. Health care, and so on. Parent's are helped out a lot here, and it's nice. Here's it's seen as doing your part for the country to have children, and you are rewarded for parenting.

I think you CHOOSE to be a SAHM so the state should not have to pay you. The State doesn't get the money from just anywhere. The State will have to boost taxes and take it from there. As a working mother that works hard to take care of my son I would pissed if the state decided to take more money from me so someone else could stay home with there kids. I think your partner should pay you for all of your hard work and I definately agree that being a mom is one of the hardest jobs out but we CHOOSE to have a child so it is OUR responsibility to take care of them.

Yea I agree why should someone pay for me to stay home when it was my choice to do so. I dont know im torn on the whole situation. Yea but the taxpayers pay for moms who are on welfare when we all know majority of them dont need weklfare..its not a win win situation because people will always take advantage of anything that has to do with money.

Moms have a very thanklesss job and it never ends not even when those darling little curtian climbers grow up and leave home. so if Saty at home mom's are compensated when would it stop and where would the funds come from. Way back when I was in high school doing social studies we learned that at that time in Russia mothers were paid byy the children she had. we were shown a film and it was back in the very early 60s. I would be interesting to find out id=f it would make a difference in how these children turned out.

I would also like to know if those Russian kids turned out different because their mothers stayed home with them as opposed to a kids mother who didnt stay home with them. thanks for repsonding

I definitely believe that our government should "pay" mothers to stay at home and raise their children. Back in the day, mothers were able to stay home with their children and raise them with higher standards and morals. Nowadays it is extremely hard for a family to make ends meet with only one paycheck coming in (from the father). This has forced mothers to have to work, and basically leave their children in the care and instruction of someone else...and we all know that NOBODY cares about our children's best interest the way that we mother's do. My point is that our country (USA) would improve dramatically if mother's were able to focus all of their energy on raising stable, strong, and positively moral children. There would be MUCH less crime, disease, and general misery in our country. I am a stay at home mother of 4 boys...I even homeschool all of them. Lord knows that it is hard enough for me to impress upon them the importance of being responsible, God-loving people with integrity...I can't imagine them even having a chance in this world if I weren't there to guide them.

I agree with you Sarah1977, NOBODY is going to care for our children like we would and do so I think if we got atleast some money for being home with our kids it would encourage mothers to be home and get rid of alot of the problems in todays world with young kids. Kids are raising themselves these days and we all know its for the worst, more kids are in jail today and the crime rates are going up by far so maybe if parents took more time to be home with there children and monitor them we can eliminate our kids being just another "statistic" in soceity! Your response is greatly appreciated!

SAHM Mom's should get paid for a decision they make...us working Mom's do pretty much the same thing ..except we have 8+ hours less a day to get it all done and we don't get sick time from the At home job. Now somebody has suggested that I will lose more of my earnings so that someone else can stay home with their kids. I have never seen The View - but after hearing something like this, you can bet I will make no effort to turn it on.

I see most people agree they should not be paid, since it is their choice to stay at home and take care of their children, ehich is fine by me. There are many work possibilities from home nowdays - one doesn't have to go and work at a factory all day long... Work from home is classic for stay-at-home-moms. So not only they have many opportunities, they can stay at home and take care of their children while working 3-4 hours a day and earning quite a bit.

When my children were small I was a stay at home mom for many years, and lived without the state paying me. When I needed help from the state, during my separation and divorce, when I became a single mom of three, the state gave me a hard time, and so I went out and got a job because it was easier than getting it from the state even though I really needed it. I think now that I work, and have for over ten years now, that I would resent my hard earned tax dollars going to stay at home moms when the state gave me such a hard time when I did need it.

I have been a stay at home mom and a working single mom. I have been a working married mom too, LOL! I really honestly can't answer that question. I don't know! Part of me says yes, they deserve compensation for all of the work SAHM's do but on the other hand, there would be so many women quitting their jobs that it wouldn't be beneficial to the state or private organizations for that to happen. There would have to be some happy medium for that to happen I suppose. How would you guage such a compensation? I wouldn't even know where to begin on that one!

Yea im kinda torn too because we work as hard as anyone else that gets up in the morning & goes to work so why shouldnt we get paid BUT then on the other side if we chose to be stay at home moms that means we are obviously financially stable so why would we want to take from other mothers who struggle to make ends meet. Im undecided...thanks so much for your story.

Being a Mom was your choice, being a stay at home Mom is your choice, and in my opinion stay at home Moms should not be paid by the State or the Federal Government. Why should taxpaying workers money go to paying you for something you chose to do? If you do not want to be a 24/7 Mom my suggestion to you is get a part time job.

While it is true that stay at home moms work hard and certainly deserve a world of credit for doing what they do, it is insane to even suggest that the "state" (which really means taxpayers) should pay them for it. That is literally suggesting that folks who are not moms should pay the way for those who are. Why should a single person with no kids pay taxes that would go to a stay at home mom? Or a mom who works pay taxes to provide for her stay at home neighbor? Please don't get me wrong, I am NOT slamming stay at home moms or minimizing the hard work that it entails. I'm just saying that the government should not impose higher taxes to pay them for this life choice.

well, the government here in australia gives a little bit of money monthly or yearly for stay-at-home mums... the amount depends on how much your hubby is earning and how many children do we have... even though the amount is not much, but it is enough to buy the children's basic needs and paying some bills...

First, to make sure I am not misunderstood. I do not believe anyone works harder than mothers of young children who are home with them all day. Just the same, the answer to your question is Absolutely Not. It is not the governments job to do such a thing. Not only would the government run such a program inefficiently, they would also create a new chunk of government to do it. In addition, whenever the government provides money to any organization or group of people, the government will immediately feel that they have the right to control that group of people. We do not want that.

Yea the goverment would probably screw it up if they did try to come up with the money...and yes they would probably have some crazy laws to go with it.

I think you should. I wont be doing stay at home mom thing when I have kids. But for those who choose to (or have to) stay home I think its a big deal! My moms only job growing up was staying home with us kids. You should get paid for sure. She only recently began to receive actual pay for taking care of my 20 yr old handicappted sister. Good for her! It helps pay our rent too. Happy Moms Day to all the moms btw! :))

While the thought is wonderful it would never happen. I know it has been previously mentioned but you couldn't guage how much a SAHM should eb paid hourly, because some care for 1 child while others have several... Also can you imagine the amount of mothers that would pack it in at work to go home to be with their children? Also there would be fathers that would want to go home too to be with their children. Companies would be crying for help, the government would be BROKE, they would in turn tax the crap out of the working folks. It would get ugly lol.
