I recently bought the DVD version of Gone With The Wind and, finally, was able to watch it last night. To my surprise, my husband who prefers action than drama, watched it with me. And he really enjoyed it too!I remember watching it the first time in the Philippines, when I was in highschool, my parents loved this film and back then we did not have DVD's, just betamax (if anyone can recall it- this is prior to VHS). Anyway, our betamax machine would overheat due to watching 4 films at a time...lol. 10 years ago, my husband bought me the VHS version as a gift, but I never finished it, because my daughter was still a baby, so I cannot sit and watch a whole film (average film is 1.5-2hrs) so much more Gone With The Wind which is more than 3 hours long...I think it is almost 4 hours. My favorite part is when Scarlett O'hara (played by Vivien Leigh) looked up into the sky, with her fist closed saying "As God is my witness I will never go hunry again,..." That line was a classic. This showed how determined and strong-willed the main character was. The determination that made her successful in regaining their stature in society lost during the Civil War. I will definitely watch this over and over again, because it truly takes you back into that era...as if you are living it with them. I know that there is a sequel film, but since the sequel was made decades after the original, I, personally, do not think it can ever do justice to the original film. I think it is best to leave it alone, and let the audience be captivated and make their own conclusions and/or continuance of the story. For me, I think they still (Scarlett and Rhett) ended up together after all..."Tomorrow is another day".

Thank you for the detailed account pertaqining to the movie, "Gone With The Wind". Thomas Hardy seems to be your favourite author. He is my favourite too. I liked his style a lot. Iread his work long ago. I do not read much now. You are lucky that you can read and watch movies of your favourite author. Favfive, I see that this is your first post and that starts with your favourite movie. Great! All the best to you.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I love to read books a and watch movies. Now that i am finding some time of my own, I do allocate at least 5 hours a week to watch a couple fo good movies. I am starting a collection of classical movies. I love Audrey Hepburn. I have Breakfast at Tiffany's, Sabrina and Roman Holiday. I would like to get my hands on Casablanca next. Still saving enough money to buy more. I love watching Alfred Hitchcocks' films as well.
