Just another manic Monday or, how do you feel when Monday rolls around

May 14, 2007 7:07am CST
I've just had a great weekend. Getting lots of things done around the house, getting all our music gear loaded into the car, my lovely partner did a blinding gig with me doing a bit of singing, we got paid by the pub (always a bonus)and spent Sunday seeing friends and generally chilling out. All in all a lovely weekend, no problems, no hitches, no troubles and we went to bed in a calm and relaxed mood. And then came Monday, at 4.35 am to be specific. The alarm clock went off and we both overslept. My partner was supposed to be starting his shift at 6am, we didn't get out of bed until 5.15am which meant frantic racing around to get washed and dressed and out of the house so I could drive him to work in time. Oh joy, it's pelting with rain and a driving wind and there is a lake where the road used to be, but I managed to get him to work with a couple of minutes to spare. Driving home I realised that the petrol tank was virtually empty. I made it home on fumes I guess and managed to pull into the only petrol station open at that hour to find that my purse with my money was at home, I know exactly where it is, it's on the kitchen table where I left it when we dashed out of the house earlier. Fortunately the guy knows me and was happy for me to put some petrol in the car and come back later with the cash. Got into the house to find that our lovely cat, Moomin, had found a way to open the fridge door and was happly munching her way through the last of the ham, having knocked down a couple of eggs and the half a carton of orange juice as well. How is it that one small cat can cause such total devastation in a small area? So she got booted out and I cleaned up the mess, all this before 7.30am on a Monday morning. I found my purse and my bag and checked that I had my time sheet and other papers before setting off to a temporary assignment I had been given on Friday evening. No problem, I thought, back to the garage to pay for the petrol, then a quick drive into the city, park up and head into the office I was supposed to be working in this week. The weather was still pretty dreadful and the traffic horrendous. I'm stuck in a traffic jam when my mobile phone begins its insistent ringing, so I pick it up, can't find my headset so I take the risk as I am not moving anywhere in the traffic. It's my agency informing me that the client doesn't need a temp now so I could go home and wait for a call later to see if they had any other work for me. Fan-flaming-tastic, I'm stuck in traffic in the pouring rain, need to turn around and go home as I have no work this week. Eventually the traffic moves sufficiently for me to wriggle out of the line and turn off. Driving back home my little car does a very good impersonation of a hovercraft as I almost aquaplane through a torrent of water streaming from the clogged main drain in the road. I make it home and park up on the drive, narrowly avoiding the Council rubbish lorry parked virtually across my drive and blocking the access for myself and my neighbours. Moomin is a bedraggled heap of soggy fur on the doorstep, and as I open the door she bolts into the house almost knocking me over as she belts up the stairs and jumps onto the sofa. Dripping all over the furniture, she looks at me as if to say "I hate you but you have to get me dry now" so I grab the old towel and catch her. Five minutes later we have an almost dry cat and I have several impressive lacerations on my hand and arm. So, by 9am I am logged onto my computer, the cat is sitting under the desk still digesting the ham, the rain is hammering at the windows, it's cold and wet, and it's Monday Morning. How was your Monday?

What an awful start to the week! Here's hoping it turns out a lot better than it started! (x) I had a lie-in today! I only got up at 5:30 to feed a hungry little girl, then played "horsey-horsey" until I could coax the wife out of bed to let me get washed & dressed in time to leave for work at 7:40. I think that Monday's are even worse at this time of the year, because of all the bank holidays we get a taste of freedom, only for it to be snatched away!

Oh yes, the Bank holidays, they always throw us completely out of the loop. I even found myself mixing up the days the other week because of a bank holiday. Three days of chilling, relaxing and leisure then back to the grind. I remember playing horsey with my son, about 20 years ago now, thanks hun

My Monday is not getting off to a great start, either. It was unseasonabley cold last night so I didn't sleep well as I have already stowed away the colder weather blankets. Then my youngest informed me he has a sore throa and is home from school. A couple of weeks ago I agreed to watch the 2 kids of my friend when they get out of school. So, now I have to drag my sick son down to get them. I will be meewting another son who will tell me the results of an audition, and if all didn't go well, he will be in an awful mood! The two kids that will be here this afternoon were supposed to go to tennis so wouldn't have been here much of the time between now and when their dad picks them up this evening, but tennis has been cancelled! It is going to be a long afternoon! And to top it off, out toilet seat broke. Nothing at all to sit on, and my husband isn't going to get one or put a new one on this evening because he has to go out, so it will be at least another 24 hours before that is sorted. I can't WAIT to see what the rest of the day has in store for me!

Oh hun *hugs* It is still cold here today so I am debating whether to put the heating back on in the house or just stick to the fire in the living room. I hope your youngest feels a bit better soon, it's not fun having to drag him out to collect the other two for the afternoon and, of course, your other son if things go badly. I hope things get sorted soon, and welcome to the Happy Mondays club :-)

Oh boy - I hope that's not a typical Monday morning for you LOL! Sounds horrendous Goth. Mondays for me are the day that I get a lie-in. I was particularly busy this weekend at the market - doing 2 days as it was Mothers' Day weekend. When I woke up on Monday lunchtime (!) I could hardly move. My back was in such pain and it took me a long time to get out of bed! It must have been all the hard work of setting up the stall and dismantling it and doing it all again the next day! At least i've got a week to recover - but I have some DIY to do on the stall and I need to make new stuff to replace the items I sold. So i'll be busy this week by the sound of it! lol

PMSL I will refrain from trying to figure out why your bum hurts hun, but I do have a mind like a sewer sometimes - lol Glad to hear you are ok

Hi Feral, I hope your back is feeling better today hun. I've never had to set up and take down a stall, although I've had a few *fights* with a tent in a strong wind before now. I guess we will both be having busy weeks this week, take it easy though and look after your back

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Erm sorry about that but you DID ask how I feel when Monday comes around and that is how I feel LOL! I must admit I love my job and don't resent having to wake up to go to work each day, but Monday's are hard! Seriously my sleep pattern gets a little muddled at the weekend and then come Monday morning I feel all miserable about having to get up. The thing is I work flexi-time and can come in to work any time up to 10:00 but I always aim to get in for 8.30 or 9! Am I weird? Yes I think so LOL! Hope yours are not as traumatic as mine :) x
15 May 07
ROTFLMAO - nice one hun :-) I must admit our sleep patterns get seriously messed up at the weekends, especially when we have a gig so it was a late night home Saturday, well Sunday morning

sounds like the PITS! I cratered last night on the roomie's bed - hey its a water bed - and finally around 10:30 she make me get up so we could play musical dogs - hopefully the other roomie will be home tonight to take care of her own dumb dog. So we did dogs and then I went back to bed - my own this time. I woke up again around 1 & was up for a bit, the roomie telling me what all she had gotten done, and I drinking some of her nice new tea. I went back to bed around 3 to get up at 5:50/6ish to go to work. Scamp lay on top of me, guarding me, cats came & went & Scamp had to tell certain ones of them off - there was at least one - small - fight, some one scratched the mattress, there was a lot of traffic. I never really got back to sleep deeply. Then, around quarter of 6 or so, Scamp had to come poke me & make sure I was awake. Sometimes I just wish I could toss his furry butt out of the bed room, but sometimes when I do that he crys outside the door.

I hate Monday! It is simply because it comes after Sunday ha ha... On Sunday you get to wake up late and just let yourself loose but on Monday you have to wake up early to get ready for work....

Wow! Great post! And my answer is that in the words of the song. "I don't like Mondays!". Weekends are great - time to sleep in, relax, catch up wuth the housework, maybe work on the garden a bit, and I may even have time to talk to my psrtner instead of just passing in the hallway! But Mondays herald everything I hate - namely work and all that goes with it............ getting up ridiculously early at 5.00am, the rush hour, standing on public transport in London just to even get to work, missing out on watching my precious tennis which is on TV here a lot at the moment............. So - in my view - Monday's suck and I loathe them!!!
15 May 07
Ah yes, I remember the London rush hour and the tubes and buses, one of the reasons I moved away :-) I still don't like Mondays ...................."I want to shoot the whole day down" thanks for your comments hun

Wow hon! I thought I had a bad day but I think you have me beat by a landslide! I spent all morning waiting for the repairman and finally called in to ask for a credit because I had forgot to do that on Friday. When I called in they informed me that I couldn't get a credit because I had refused a service call. What? Silly me I thought that the last few hours had been spent waiting on a service call! So then they proceed to ask me to be home from 1-5 for a service call, I told them that they had already had me waiting all morning long and managed to get them to agree to send someone out by noon. I got my internet fixed and logged on to find 130 emails to deal with and I have been trying to clear those up all day long. I hope your day has gotten better since your post :)

Don't you just hate it when you wait and wait and wait for repairmen to call round. I'm glad you are back on line hun, even though you have a load of emails to wade through. Things can only get better now :-)

Well sweets I must say my heart went out to you as I was reading this - and I am really sorry but I had to laugh at some points! I bet the gig was fantastic , what sort of music did you guys play/sing? I have had days like this in the past but not for a little while! What have I done today - absolutely nothing! Talked to the kids as dad got them ready for school and gave them a kiss and cuddle and then went back to sleep after eating breakfast and taking my painkillers - just about the time you were logging in! Got up at lunchtime and had some toast took painkillers and did my 2 sudokos in the paper, back to bed and watched some tv, talked to a friend on the phone and then logged on to computer! Now my youngest is back from school and yapping at me! So I have had a lazy Monday instead of a Bangles style one! Now I have to leave the laptop to get cuddles from my daughter! lol xxxx

I'm glad to hear that you are on the mend and taking it easy hun. Yup it was meant to be funny, I can laugh about it now but at the time this morning I was spitting teeth. Good on you for spotting The Bangles reference too - lol We do a mixture of goth/rock/progressive/indie - my partner writes loads of stuff and we stick in a few of the old reliables too.

With the way that my shift at work is, I work both Saturday and Sunday. My 2 days off are Wednesday and Thursday so technically my Monday is Friday lol. So, having said that, Monday is getting close to my weekend. I get my boy off to school (means I get up by 7 AM) he is off by 8 AM, I get ready and go to work for 1030 AM, I work, I'm off at 7 PM. I come home and my brother drops my son off at around 730 PM. We have a late supper and then we bath and or play together til his bedtime which is around 9 PM. Then I have my me time until I get tired.

Nope not really I happen to like mondays mainly because I dont work on mondays and I always love watching monday night raw but one thing I hate about mondays is knowing that I have a whole work week ahead of me starting on tuesday and of course that will deffintley give me monday blues but for the most part I like mondays only time I didnt was when I was in school.

Wow, that's some Monday! My Mondays are usually a lot more tame! I will occasionally go in to work and find that I have a lot to work on, but most days it's not so bad. Today, I didn't have anything to do until after lunch! So it was boring, more than anything.

Mondays suck. Always hated them, and always will. I think the sleeping in on the Sunday prior makes me really tired and unimpressed on Monday. My productivity can suffer a bit. The days I love most are Wednesday, and Friday!
