I heard on the news last night about a school in Tenn that the Teachers pulled a prank on the stuents telling them that there was a man in the building with a gun all the children got scared of course then they told them to calm down it was o.k. it was only a jok. This was a bad thing with all the school shootings that have taken place over the years I agree with the parents those teacheers should be fired for doing that! If not fired do something that would really scare them and then they will think about it. WHat do you think?

You have got to be kidding? I can't believe that somebody would do such a thing especially a teacher who is supposed to be there teaching your young kids and scaring the holy crap out of them??? Not good at all. If that was me either my child would be out of that class or that teacher would be out of that classroom. That will teach the kids nothing about school violence.
Oh man, I feel for those poor kids. I can just picture that happening with any of my grandkids that are in school. I would be just as upset as my daughters would if not more so.
That teacher needs help!!!!

That's pretty stupid and inconsiderate. Regardless of the recent tragedies, TEACHERS should NOT pull pranks of that nature on students ever. I think that teacher SHOULD be fired. There's no excuse for scaring children, adn it could also be like the boy who cried wolf. The next time the teacher tells them that and it ISN'T a joke, will the students believe him?

I agree and thought of something after I posted my response. Schools have always had 'fire drills' but took special points to explain them and what the children were to do and why they had the drills.
A few years back I worked for the technical department of our school district and shortly after Columbine they went to great expense and work setting up for similar situations: terrorist attachs, bomb threats, and such. They decided rather than have the whole schoool involved they did 'drills' but only teachers and staff were involved. Even as an adult and knowing it was only a drill it was frightening when the doors of the school locked down - areas of each school can be seperated so someone can't go through the school shooting people. Also staff is trained where 'safe' areas are and are to get students to those areas ASAP.

YOu are so right and let me say that it was more than one teacher that was in on this. I think they said 4 of them. There was no excuse for this at all I bet not many showed up for their classes today I know I would not send my child to their class they could put mine in another class or I take them back home!

That happened fairly close to where I live. I read the original news article last night, then saw it was national and even international news now!! I can't for the life of me imagine why a grown adult, teachers for that matter, would do something like that. The only thing I can think of, was to do like a "drill" training, but you don't do that with kids....definitely an exercise in very very poor judgment, and I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few of them lost their jobs, and rightfully so!!

I think this is horrible and can't believe that anyone in the world would think this funny or 'a joke'. Children have enough in the world to terrify them I think they need to feel safe and protected at school - I hope these teachers are punished and punished good for what they did. Teachers are supposed to 'teach' and teaching fear in not on any corriculum that I know of - reading, writing, artithmatic - history, art, even computers but not terrorisim!

Why in the H--l would the teachers do something to the students? I cannot understand anyone playing such a cruel joke on anyone. If you where in school or any building and someone you trusted or where in aurthority got up and told the crowd that there was a gunman in the hallway would't it scare the h--l out of you! My Gawd I am outraged with this news. I would sue the school I want the teachers heads. I know I am probably overreacting but this is rediculous to tell students. And you wonder why students have not respect for teachers.
I believe in having some type of safety drill, incase there was a gunman or some other type of emergency but just as a joke that is carrying it to far.

Thats a pretty sorry joke if you ask me.I think those teachers need to be fired, they do not need to be around children of any kind.To me that is very cruel, and they should be punished...Teachers that call that a joke,i would not want them to be teaching my children...

Are you sure it happened? and you claimed it was a bad joke. It was not a joke at all, It was horrible. Why on earth teachers will do such to innocent students. If I were the principal I would have kicked those black-sheep, bad-fish teachers out of my school without having to listen to their lame excuses. Were the teachers really grownups there? Oh they had to be but the way they acted was immature. Sorry for being hyper, I just couldn't control myself to read this all. Happy Discussions.

Wow, I bet the lawyers were standing outside the school doors that day! LOL I smell a lawsuit indeed. I can hear it now.. the teachers caused such mental anguish that the kids are afraid to go to school now and can't concentrate... etc. While I do have to say it really was very ignorant indeed, I can still see the immediate space for a lawsuit and a big round with the courts over this one.
My oldest daughter's school actually had a lockdown with a portrayl of a shooting. While 99% of the kids never actually had to experience any of it, the small percentage that participated mimicked everything from the shooter to being shot and all of the medical issues at hand. The police and paramedics were all involved also. It was a huge deal in the district, basically to see if the district was up to snuff in an incidence. Kind of scary to think about but unfortunately something that is now very real in our world.

What the heck was going through those teacher's minds. I could maybe understand it if it was some sort of drill exercise they were doing, but to just joke about it is not right. Those sort of things should never be joked about, especially in a case where it can be a real thing, and when it does happen the students will only will only think it is a joke again. What morons. They should be fired and never allowed to teach again.

I think that the teachers should be suspended. I think firing them is a little harse but they definitely need to be disciplined. With all the schools that have shootings been done in them that is a very poor tasted joke.

That's not a very nice joke. Teachers shouldn't make jokes like that. If I was a student and heard a teacher said that I would be terrified go to school again. They are suppose to make the school safe for kids and when a teacher says something like that yeah I agree they should be FIRED. They shouldn't scare kids like that.
