Yes, Load and Reload are pleasant to the ears. Being a trash metal fan, I think it's not that they are not bad albums. They're just good and they don't match to the quality of the earlier albums. I, initially started listening to Metallica due to these albums and thus they have some significance for me. Nowadays, I'm listening to the earlier albums like Kill 'em all, ...And Justice for All and Ride the Lightning. I'm loving them a lot ! And yes, some of my favorite Metallica songs are from the Load and Reload albums. i.e. songs like Outlaw torn, Fuel and a couple of others..
I miss the heavy bass/rhythm guitars in these albums :(.

Yes, Reload is a good album with many great/famous songs like The Memory Remains, Fuel, Devil's Dance, Fixxxer, etc. Load wasn't a great hit and facts and figures say that Load as an album didn't make even 50% of the money as done by the Black album. So, naturally the people didn't like the album ! But, I don't find music in Load that bad. It's good :) I have many favorite songs from those albums Bleeding me, Hero of the day, Outlaw torn, 2X4 and Ain't my bit*h (I think the last song wasn't liked by most female fans of Metallica and that might have an influence on other Metallica fans too :P)

Interesting is that when a band release "commercial" material, they intend to MAKE MONEY, no matter how appreciated their songs will be by their real fans. But Metallica's commercial shots were lame compared to the rest of their material, and it didn't make them richer, as you're saying. They kinda lost lots of old fans, and didn't get many new.

I'm a huge fan of Metallica's first 5 albums (obviously, lol), but I do like Load and Reload alright. I don't listent to them very often, and I don't have them practically memorized like I do their first 5, but I don't hate them. I really like the S&M album, and although all but 2 songs were from older Metallica albums, I still think that the orchestral accompaniment made it sound different enough to be considered something great that they did after the Black album, and I also love Garage Inc, the all cover songs album they put out around the same time (give or take maybe 1 year).

There are some songs that I also don't care for very much on Garage Inc, but there are also some really good songs as well. I really like Metallica's version of Astronomy, Am I Evil? (and the other Diamond Head songs), Blitzkrieg, and also Mercyful Fate. There are more, but I don't want to keep rambling :)

Bah, you know what I think is lame? Their Ramone's covers. Hahaha! It sounds funny, 'cause James' voice is SO not for punk songs! I have nothing against Ramones, and I actually like them a lot, but I think Metallica should leave them alone. Hehehe!

Hey, Metallideth! Your name already tells a lot about you. :D
I also think S&M is pretty cool. I like Garage Inc too, although I think some songs in there are not quite for James to sing... But I think their version for Sabra Cadabra was amazing!

Metallica has always had a way of going slightly more mainstream to sell albums. I think that's what happened to these particular ones. I don't mind them at all.. just accept them for what they are I guess.

That's exactly what I think. But in their case, going mainstream didn't help at all, 'cause they didn't sell more albums and ruined their fame instead.
I think they're way too worried about money when they have no need for that at all. Remember that legal action against Napster? It's ok that they have the right to protect their songs, but it was only useful to ruin their reputation. You still can download their entire albums for free if you wish.

I am a MetallicA fan! I like all their album and I started to listen to them when it came out Reload. It was about in the 1998 I think. Between Load and Reload I prefer reload. It has more cool songs, like Fuel, The Unforgiven 2, The Memory Remains. In Load I like King Of Nothing, and Mama Said.

As an old Metallica fan i believe ReLoad is one of the best Metallica albums, each and every song is a piece of art by itself, music, lyrics just name it, damn how can we overlook songs like; The memory remains, Unforgiven 2, Prince Charming, Low man's lyrics.

You see the problem is, when a band at its prime some of their fans become prisoners to the old works, they don't even give themselves a chance to carefully listen to the new work, for instance the Black album was real hit but that doesn't mean succeeding works are of less quality, on the contrary, i see Metallica got more mature that they could add so much to their songs i ain't saying which is better here but you so often hear people say Metallica since the Black album did not release any work of the same quality, people like that are two types:
They are either people who liked Metallica coz during the Black album period Metallica was one the metal fads so they listned to Enter Sandman or whatever because everybody liked the song at that time but they aren't really Metallica fans, maybe they are Rock or maybe even Pop fans but not really into Metallica scheme OR they are probably Metallica fans but those who liked a particular song style either music wise or lyrics wise and they're not willing to accept Metallica adding changes to their style. The wondful thing about Metallica they never lost their identity they may change their way a little bit but never lost their identity.
In the end it is a matter of opinion, right ? :D excuse typos if any

I think the last good Metallica cd was the "black" album, and even that is questionalbe when compared to Ride the Lightning, Kill em' All, Master of Puppets and yes even Justice for All.
I hate to say it, but I wish they would hang it up. They've become little more than a commercialized version of themselves and that quality and edge just isn't there anymore and honestly it hasn't been for quite some time.
Welcome to mylot laridbz.

I also prefer the first albums, but I still think they've done much better with the "commercial" phase than most famous bands around.
Thank you, filmbuff! :) And by the way, is there a way for me to correct the title? There's an extra "a" in there, but I don't see an option for that.

I really haven't liked anything since black, so I guess it would depend on what you consider to be the commercial phase or not.
Unfortunetly there is no way to go back and edit the title of your post, or any of the contents of anything you write. It would be nice if they added a spell checker. The best advice I can offer it to try and proof read everything you post before you pull the trigger.
If you have any questions or anything, just ask. :)

You're right they are better off in this commercial phase than most.
Personally, I don't like them much, maybe a couple of songs from Load and less from Reload.
The get back on track with St Anger, a more basic and crude sound. Let's not fight about it :)

I don't know a single song from St. Anger to fight about anything here. Hahaha!
Actually I'm not a insanely crazy fan of Metallica. I like them a lot, yeah, but it's not like I'm a thrasher or anything. And yes, it's been a long time I don't care much about what they're doing.
I hope you guys don't try to kill me for that! :D But I guess not, so far no-one complained about my "Reaload", so I assume you're all very nice guys. Hahaha! :)

I don't consider myself any particular genre of fan. Try and get me to remember band names, or song names and I go blank. It's not like I don't listen to music all day long, it's just that I care more for the music than what it's called.
That being said, I loved metallica's older work. Their modern stuff falls a little flat for the most part, but that's to be expected after you'd been around as a band longer than most of your current fans have been alive.
Metalliza is one of the only groups with song titles i'e bothered to remember, thus making them one of my alltime favorites. One of my favorite songs, and also one people give a lot of lip about 'some even claiming it sucks' is Hero of the day.
I like fuel, turn the page, all that. I never like every song in any album of ny band. That's just the way it is. So me liking two or three out of load and reload, and ones that came after isn't new to me. Everything else is just filler.

I like Hero Of The Day too! It's my favorite from Load, at least.
And they changed a lot, maybe because they're together for a long time as you said. But there are some bands that didn't change THAT much, like the Rolling Stones, for example. I think it's a matter of how things go on with your bandmates, and what new influences you have in your personal taste. It's complicated! :)
Well, thanks for sharing!!
