There's no simple answer.
God, in itself is a word that suggests perfect being--so, ultimately any characteristics assigned by us mere mortals--such as appearance, gender, and name are really fallacies. Some, hating the connotation of a male deity insist on using the word Goddess. (I for one say God and Goddess are one and the same being). The Hindus believe in many gods, yet it is understood that each of these gods are only aspects of the higher god.
The God, that I think you are referring to, the Judeo-Christian God, and God of the Muslims, is called many things. Yahweh, YHWH, Jehovah, Yah, Jah, God, Allah, Elohim, Brahmin, Krishna, Christ, just to name a few.
Best answer to give your daughter is most likely something like, "God is God."
In the old testament of the Christian Bible, HE answers that very question with a statement like, "I Am that I Am." or "I Am who I Am"--depending on the translation. Some refer to the Holy Spirit, the natives around the world have often said "Great Spirit." Neale Donald Walsch said, "Love=Truth=Joy=God".
Who really knows the truth? Despite what any mortal may claim, none know the truth.

Interesting question. In the Bible, "God" is called many names, including just "God". It is understandable why she might be confused! From my understanding of The Bible, we are not yet evolved enough to know the true name of God and survive its' utterance. I would answer that with just a touch of "ambiguity". I would tell her what I believe...and then tell her that people call God many things and believe many different ways so God has as many names as there are people because we were supposed to be made in the "image of God". (If that's what you believe).
I know that's kind of cheesy, but its' what I learned when I was a kid :)

I guess the answer to your question depends largely on your religion.
For the Abarahamic religions (Judaism, Islamic, Christian) the name is unknown, and largely believed to be have been used in the creation of the world and everything. Invoking the true, unknown name would give someone the power to make or unmake all of creation.

God is a belief, a energy, a power. We can't see God but can feel someone is there who rule over your all doings. God is named in different names in different parts of world in different caste, creed and religion. God is one and only one. I believe God is in every human being. If you can feel for human being, you are worshiping the God. This is all my belief. Everyone has his own way to say.
