What's the hardest decision you've ever had to make?

If you had to choose one decision, which would you say is the hardest one you've ever had to make?
This is a difficult question for me, as I've never really stewed over decisions. I think most of the major decisions in my life, I knew which course of action I wanted to take immediately when the decision presented itself.
I think, though, that deciding which grad school to attend is going to be a difficult one for me. I've got the ability to go to a number of good schools, all of which are in the midwest or western United States, but doing so will take me very far away from my family and will extend the distance between my girlfriend and I by several hundred miles. The alternative means going to a mediocre school that doesn't give me the best education for my field, but keeps me close to the people I love.

I'd say the hardest decision I had to make was one that broke my ex-boyfriend's heart. My boyfriend and I were living together and things were getting worse and worse. I was growing up and he was staying the same. I wanted more out of life and he was fine with settling. I made the decision to end the relationship which of course meant that he was going to have to move out. The condo was in my name and so its not like I could have been the one to move out. I made a decision that after almost five straight years of always having a boyfriend, I needed to be on my own and so here I am. I'm living by myself, attending college, working full time and I couldn't be happier! My ex and I still talk to there's always the possibility that when we both get where we want to be, we could be together again!

I can see how that would be a difficult decision. Glad you're satisfied with the way it turned out, though.
