since its summer here in the philippines, one of the very noticeable activities young boys engage themselves into is having circumcision. as a mother to baby boy, i cant help but wonder if he's alreday qualified to undergo as such. i worry if he can bear the pain. my son is just one year and 2 months. please advise me when is the best best to have him undergo circumcision.

hi, i just had my two sons circumcised 2 weeks ago. they are 11 and 10 . my youngest in 6 and circumcised just after birth, because after that they can already feel the pain. they say that you can only circumcise a baby upon birth. if not, it should be at a latter age when he can understand about circumcision.

A boy will remember the pain if he is circumcised at birth, so how about not doing it at all?

Circumcision makes baby boys far more sensitive to pain than girls
and their non-circumcised counterparts, a Hospital for Sick Children
study suggests.
And circumcised males may continue to be less tolerant of injuries
and painful ailments in youth and adulthood, said Dr. Gideon Koren,
whose study was published in this week's issue of the British
medical journal The Lancet.
Videotaping 100 boys and girls as they got their diphtheria, whooping
cough, tetanus and flu vaccinations at the age of 3 to 4 months,
researchers at the hospital studied the infants for their responses
to the jabbing needles.
"We discovered that the pain was higher among the boys with
circumcisions whereas (with) the boys that did not have circumcision,
the pain was not different from the girls."

Circumcsion was once thought by the medical community to be condusive to genital health, today we know that this is not so.
Circumcision is in some cultures a ritual stepping stone into manhood. In others it has religious connections.
I'd say consult a doctor and if it is not medically indicated, don't worry about it.
Your child is too young to make this decision for himself and if it is not medically indicated, let him have the time to grow and learn then later make his own decision.

In the Phillipines young boys engage themselves in circumcision? Do young boys, like 2 year olds, even know what circumcisions are, let alone have the maturity to make that decision?

well i have 2 sons and here in the states circumsision is done 1-2 days after birth..its not customary to leave the hospital before having it done if the parents have requested and filled out the paperwork for this procedure to be done..from what the doctor told me yes there is pain involved but the child will not remember it, however i was told that when my son was only a day old..im not sure about a child your sons age..is it possible to consult a physician there for that information?
hope my input helped ..
