Do you ever download stuff from p2p sites? What are your thoughts on copyright and downloading and piracy?
Do you think that internet piracy would go down if the shops and record companies redcued their prices?

I consider the practice a type of "try before you buy". If an artist puts out good material, then I don't have any objecting buying the album. Most of the time however, artists only have one decent recording on an album. In that case, I don't worry about it.
I went ahead and bout numerous albums this way when I noticed the quality is good.

yes I do this too. However I dont tend to do the step after the trying, i.e. paying full price as i already have it! lol

I think that it's mandatory that prices are reduced and that they offer us more features with the CD. Also mafias which distribute illegal copies must be prosecuted. But to stop normal people from downloading it also requires a good education, making people see that it's better if we spend a bit of our money so that artists can keep on creating.
It's a blend of many factors.

people do tend to forget the organised crime element of piracy, they thinkl of it as a victimless crime. that isnt me being judgemental I am equally guilty of the same thinking.
However, economics provides that supply and demand are essential factors for a strong stable economy within capitalism. Competition or lack of it would mean that the marketplace would stagnate, and whilst it is illegal, piracy does provide a check and balance on the monopoly that record companies control.

I download music from p2p files a lot. Most of the songs thata re copyright protected cant be downloaded. And I feel if the copyright owners are not too bothered about ti, then Im not going to fret about ti either. If its freely available, ill download it.

Yes, I do. Multiple studies have shown it doesn't affect the amount of sales done anyways since people tend to buy things along as well, record companies just expect us to buy anything (as if we're all as rich as them). I definitely think internet piracy would go down if the pricing would go down in stores, since more could be bought meaning less has to be downloaded.
Another good thing about p2p is that certain less known artists and movies gain a lot of popularity as well, rather than just the major titles which you find front row in the stores.
