My "gift" to myself is making me sick!

So I made a decision on Mothers Day that I was going to give a gift to myself. The gift of a better diet. I eat like garbage and it's time to change, diabetes runs in my family as does heart disease and cancer, plus my oldest daughter poked me in the belly and called me "her chubby mommy" the other day. I have gained about 15 pounds since I started just working my desk job exclusively and I'm unhappy with the way I look. I just want to lose that 15 pounds! I'm physically active, but no matter how much I do it won't come off, then it hit me, my eating habits are terrible! So I'm watching portions, laying off the fried foods and red meat and leaning more towards veggies, fruits, yogurt, stuff like that. I started this Sunday, today is Tuesday and I think I've shocked my system. My stomach hurts and I've been in the bathroom more today than I usually am in a week. I know it will pass, but I feel like garbage today! Anyone else go through this? Does anyone have any good healthy eating tips for me? Oh! And what about green tea? My hubby says I'm probably not feeling well because I gave up pop for green tea and water and my system is flushing itself out.

My partner and I started a new "food plan" last year. We never use the word diet, because if you notice, the first three letters in diet spell "die". Just a freaky thing we noticed. We used the bathroom more often the first week, because of the ruffage we were eating. Salads for lunch everyday and more veggies. Our systems were getting cleaned out. It's important to eat three balanced meals a day, around the same time each day, if possible. A healthy snack at night or in between meals is good. I eat fruit or rice cakes when I want a snack. Yogurt is a good snack also. She still drinks her Diet 7Up and her coffee. I drink about 6 bottles of water a day and I have a Diet Barqs with dinner. I also have a few cups of coffee in the morning. We plan our meals ahead of time and it has been a great help is losing weight. Your system will eventually get used to your new food plan. Don't get discouraged. It will work. You will start feeling better. Best of luck in achieving your goal. PEACE

Thanks fpd. How much have you lost? I'm sure once I develop the habit it'll be easier, but it's so hard to drive by McD's in the morning and not grab a biscuit on the way to work!

My partner has lost 80 lbs., in 11 months. I have lost 35 lbs. I hear you about biscuits. We haven't eaten any bread products and that is probably the hardest thing for me. I love garlic bread of any kind, cornbread and buttermilk biscuits.

GOOD FOR YOU! I wish I had the will power to stay on a diet. I too have gained weight in a short period of time. I wish it was as easy to put take it off as it was to put it on. I find myself going to work in (comfy) clothes that hide it. My boyfriend (bless his heart) tells me daily how beautiful I am, so I think eeehhh...im not that bad off. Yeah tell that to my lungs after walking up the drive way. This is kind of expensive but it works!!!I did this for a month but couldn't pay for another month and of course I didnt have the will power to watch what I continued..oh sorry...nutra system works real good. I loved the food it wasn't gross and they were portioned out for you. I lost like 20 pounds but...like I said it is kind of expensive. I guess it may be worth the first month to kinda train yourself on what to eat and when. Good luck to you and stick to it. We owe it too ourselfs to take care of ourselfs.

This can actually be the same as a detox. your body is detoxing itself from all the junk and sugar and it is only normal to feel like sh*t-. It will pass, just make sure that u hang in there and that u dont give up. i know that it is haard - i have been through it myself, however I also know the benefits that comes afterwards and it truly is a reward =)

wow your gonna kill yourself.... :S Your feeling sick because your body is doing this clean out, it's like when people go on those week long fasts and stuff, it's supposed to totally fix you up, like a detox, and that's what your doing without totally fasting... You'll feel like this for probably another weekish if you keep doing it the way you are, it's going to clean EVERYTHING my approach, be suttle, i don't eat much junk in the first place, but i do eat a lot of take out, just lower it by 1 fruitful snack a week, that way, your not shocking your system, and your healthier for it.

Your problem is simple, you made to quick of a change in to short of a time period. It works better to change your diet over a larger period of time, although not to long. Same concept as most of the stop smoking aids on the market, which give the body some of what it craves and then you step down, giving it a little less, until you have worked your way off the smoking. If it is bad enough a diet may need to be changed the same way. O well, you have started it, put up with the consequences, stick to it, and you will be a healthier person.

Soccermom, If you usually drink quite a bit of soda pop then your body is also going through "Caffeine withdrawls"...it will pass...but it will mke you feel like crap for a few days.....my husband gave up pop last year and lost about 10 pounds.....not me...IF you cut me I bleed Pepsi...and when I am sick and have to go to the hospital ...I always tell them to just infuse an IV of Pepsi and I will be good to go soon.....LMAO Your body is designed to pull the water from your system to replenish the cells in your body and to flush the waste out....be careful that you are not over flooding or you will end up with diarrhea. You might try weaning off the soda.... As for eating healthy....always eat breakfast..if you do not currently...it is very important..something light..wholegrain...2% or skim milk of course, has less fat content...then, pack yourself some fruit or veggies for break times and try taking a small salad to work with you each day for lunch...there are so many things that you can do with a salad...plus by taking your food...you limit the amount that you eat...DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF...pick the snacks that you eat wisely .....and be sure to reward yourself when you begin to see results ...but not food.....you should be able to eat anything you want if you limit the amount...eat more often but change your snacks to fruits, veggies...Lean Cuisine make good desserts that are low calorie.... The amount of weight that you are trying to loose is not much....so small adjustments to your diet will create lifelong changes and help to maintain your weight without having a roller-coaster effect... I wish you luck with this my friend...take care of yourself.......oh, about the green tea....I haven't really tried it...but I think that subtle changes to your diet will have the lasting affect that you are looking for...beware of quick fixes with this situation, myfriend...it can easily backfire on you...which can affect your self-esteem. Thanks for the advice tina! I brought a salad to work with me today instead of hitting the local fast food joint for onion rings and chicken strips and it actually felt good! I have a friend that gave up pop and lost weight too, funny thing was that she was drinking diet pop! My problem is coffee, I loves me my coffee! But I think it's okay if I don't load it up with cream and stuff.

i think you are making too much changes at one time to your body and your body can't handle it... why don't you take one thing at a time and change your diet at a slower pace??? may be your body might be able to adapt to the changes better... good luck with your diet anyway and i hope it will succedd...

Lol- it stinks eating healthier and feeling like crap- I’m sure your body is just adjusting to the healthy eating- If I eat salad (tossed) a lot and a lot of veggies – I have the same problem- I can’t stay out of the bathroom- and I get heartburn. Are you getting headaches? When I tried to give up pop- I got terrible headaches- from the lack of caffeine- and I only drink 1 pop a day! So I go with your husband on this one- Your body will adjust soon and you will be feeling better!

Good for you, soccermom, and your hubby is right. When we eat all the things that are bad for us for so long it takes awhile for our system to adjust to the new, healthy diet. Green tea has a lot of things that are good for your body. I think you have shamed me into going on a diet again. The thing to remember is that when you diet you don't have to deny yourself everything you like-just eat it in moderation. How does that old saying go? Everything in moderation. Wishing you much success.

Your body is probably revolting because it isn't used to these kinds of foods! I think it's sort of detoxing in a way! Good for you for taking steps to be more healthy. I need to do better as well. It's great you are switching to green tea, that is SO good for you!! Congrats!!!

I also have the very problem like u.Once i was puzzled about what i should do. Recently, when i surfed on the net, i came across one method to lose weight. That's my life-saving straw anyhow. I carry out it. one spoon honey and four spoons vinegar. No other snacks.Control yourself. Believe you can do that, even if you couldn't control your appetite. Eating some fruit is also ok. It is a hard job for a woman. Little by little. you will success. Once you are in bad mood, contact me....

Try to eat some chinese dishes coz most of these are not greasy and oily. In the beginning, you may not accustom to the chinese food but I think new starting need a process and the more you taste chinese food the more fantastic feelig you'll have got. You see most of the chinese are more slim than western people, in my opinion it owe much to the food they eat.

yea all your body is doing is just detoxing and the green tea is helping, i would say start the green tea maybe after a week of staying on a diet because this is a big change for your body so take it slow for the first month slowly introduce your body to healthier food and overall stick with the green tea and water it works, i give you a lot of credit because i have yet to stay on a actual diet i usually just starve myself for a month by eating vegetables and fruits untill i get the results i want which isn't good so eventually i'll change it up to something healthier

sorry you feel badly. You made some big changes really fast. Recently one of my jobs provided us with some free screenings and counseling. I was checked to see if I was pre diabetic, as many of my family have been diagnosed in the last ten years. I am not, but I am closer than I wanted to be.One piece of advice that was given to me was to eat a high protein bed time snack, and that will make you feel better and more energetic in the morning. Switching from pop to green tea is a good move in the long run. Good for your bones. Good luck, and my sympathy too. I quit pop, but I drink very little of it, and I gave up french fries, so far.
