Bad Habit of Skipping Breakfast.....Are you guilty of this?

I am sure we all skip breakfast from time to time, either we are in a hurry, become too busy, or whatever the situation may be. Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal of the day. But how many of us will skip breakfast, perhaps on a regular basis?
I admit I am guilty of doing this quite frequently, I never seem to be hungry until many hours after I am awake. I have a bad habit also of eating late at night.

I am very much guilty of skipping breakfast because Im a very busy person and it has become a habit to skip it and just eat brunch as an excuse. And I have realized that its bad for my health.
I would like to share this infomation that I have read on the internet. I hope this could help all of us here on mylot.
The Claim: Skipping Breakfast Can Affect Your Mood and Energy Levels During the Day
By Anahad O'Connor | February 21, 2006
THE FACTS Despite what parents and doctors have long recommended, many Americans begin their days with little more than a cup of tea or coffee, and in some cases with nothing at all.
That may seem like a good way to save time or money, but a morning without breakfast will probably cost you in other ways.
Over the years, a number of studies have examined the subject, and most have reached the same conclusion: starting a day without a solid meal tends to have slight but detectable effects on mood, memory and energy level.
In one study, published in the journal Physiological Behavior in 1999, a team of British researchers had 144 healthy adults fast overnight and then separate into several groups in the morning.
One group was allowed to eat a moderate breakfast, another ate nothing and a third had only coffee. The subjects were then monitored over several hours.
Those that ate nothing, the study found, did the worst on memory tests and had the highest levels of fatigue at noon, four hours after they awoke.
The coffee group, meanwhile, suffered no fatigue but had slightly lower scores on mental skills tests than those who had eaten a full breakfast.
Other studies have had similar findings. But research also suggests that the physiological effects of skipping breakfast tend to wear off after eating a normal lunch except in cases where the meal is so large it puts you in a stupor.
THE BOTTOM LINE Skipping breakfast can have short-term effects on memory and energy levels.

I have never been a big breakfast eater. I will eat the usual breakfast for dinner a lot of times though. Eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast as an example. I am the type that eats one large meal daily. Then I snack a lot the rest of the day. This one meal is usually at dinner time. I munch a lot of fruits, donuts and hard candies a lot. I just can't get myself to eat breakfast in the mornings like it's supposed to be done. Hahahaha!

Actually I never skip breakfast! It's my favourite meal of the day! I have low blood sugar, and if I get up and try to go out to work and start the day without breakfast, I would almost certainly collapse and faint. Because I start work at 6.30am I have to get up extra early to give myself time for a cup of tea and a bowl of cereal before I leave the house, but I ALWAYS have it, and as soon as I get to the office I have another cup of tea and a yoghurt! And at weekends or when I'm holiday, spending hours over a really big breakfast while I read the newspapers is one of the best parts of my day!!! Fruit juice, fresh fruit with yoghurt, cereal, then a plate of mushrooms/tomatoes/eggs with toast, and some croisants or pastries afterwards is my idea of heaven! All washed down with tea of course!

I really want to because whenever i haven't ate my breakfast before going to work, by 10:30am I feel so hungry. Most of the time i am on a hurry that's why i skip breakfast frequently, at work i just take coffee or tea but that wasn't enough i really prefer heavy meal in the morning. I feel guilty of it, but it is really hard to wake up too early to prepare a breakfast especially if you were too tired at work last night.

I don't like to eat breakfast. I have problems with my blood sugar (I'm hypoglycemic--the opposite of diabetic). When I eat breakfast it is usually something sugary because I don't like eggs (they make me sick if I eat them plain) and bacon/sausage is too expensive and too much of a pain to make. When I eat sugary foods it makes my blood sugar go up really high. But then an hour later or if I am really active my body goes into insulin overdrive and my blood sugar bottoms out and I have to eat again. I don't like it so I usually just skip breakfast.
The days I skip I have an early lunch around 10:30 or 11am. I always feel much better when I skip breakfast and there is much smaller chance of me passing out while trying to deal with my kids.

Some of the days, i miss the breakfast due to some time shortage. If we miss the breakfast, we will not be able to work that much faster as we work normally. We feel dull. We feel that we dont have any energy to do the work. If we are at our house, then we can manage, but when we are outside, it is very difficult to manage without having breakfast

I have to admit that I often do skip breakfast or just have a glass of juice. It takes a while for me to become hungry after waking up and we also eat our dinner quite late in the evening (around 9/10 PM) so that reduces the feelings of hunger for a while.

nope, not me. i see to it that i eat breakfast especially if i'm going to school. it's a form of energy for me and i don't want to miss my breakfast for that. i know it's hard at times to eat breakfast especially if i'm not really hungry because my body clock says so but still, i force myself to eat because i know the consequences i may face if i don't eat my breakfast. i know because i have experienced it back then and i don't want it to happen again.

When I was a teenager I would skip breakfast all the time, unless you count the can of Pepsi I had ever morning as breakfast lol. As an adult I find I have to eat breakfast everyday. Being diabetic I don't have a choice. So Since I am a stay at home mom I get the kids off to school and fix the little ones something to eat. By the time 8:30 or so rolls around I am finally hungry so I eat. I am like you and don't feel hungry until well after my day has started which is usually sometime around 5:30-6am.

Hi,babygurl850406!
Yes,yes,I feel guitly of skipping my breakfast.
I had breakfast everyday in the past, that to say,my mama prepared my breakfast for us and we could enjoy our delicioius breakfast every morning. However, now,I become a university student, that's to say,I have to make decision by myself whether to have my breakfast.I always find some excuses to explain why I skip my breakfast.Oh,I'm so busy in the morning.Oh,I'm not hungry now.Well,I really feel guilty when my mama asks me that whether I have breakfast in the morning.
Oh,I don't want to skip my breakfast,but....

Hi babygurl. Yes, you’re absolutely right that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is necessary to eat your breakfast everyday. I don’t skip meals in the morning because I know it would be of great advantage if you’re going to eat your breakfast. When we eat, it gives us energy for the whole day, thus we can do our routine activities without getting tired easily. We can finish our work faster without hassle. Our health also will be in good hands.
That’s it. Have a nice day and God speed!

Breakfast means breaking the fast. After hours of fasting our body desparately need something to produce the energy to work. By taking breakfast we are getting the same energy It says that breakfast give power to our brain to work. These days its common to skip breakfast. dont do like that

I don't skip breakfast, I always make sure to eat anything before I go even if I'm in a hurry, it helps keeping the energy to face the new day :) and of course I don't need to lose weight so I'm not tempted to skip breakfast.

I too miss my breakfast many days. I work in night shift and I go to sleep at around 5 am in the morning and wake up only in the afternoon. What to do?
Just a quick question here..? Skipping breakfast while in sleep is hazardous to health too ? Because we dont feel hungry while in sleep. anyone knows?

I think your body has probably gotten used to a different schedule and when you wake up if it is 4 am, 10 am, 3 pm, or 7 pm then your body gets on a schedule and eat your breakfast when you are awake, I know it is bad to eat something and go to bed shortly thereafter, so I would guess if you wake up eat and go back to sleep its just as bad, this would be my opinion though.
