What is wrong when one of your walls in your home is wet and green?

I just noticed when I came home from work this evening that my bedroom wall right behind my bed is wet and has a greenish color. On the other side of the wall or walls is my bathroom and the sinks are facing in the direction of my bedroom wall. Do you think it is a plumbing problem where water is leaking into the wall from the pipes? Do you think it is something else? I am assuming my roof is not leaking since it is only the bottom portion of the wall that is wet and greenish. What do you do? I called Horizon Services and they are coming out tomorrow to look at it.

It sounds like there may be a plumbing leak in the wall. I've had this too. Thankfully it wasn't a big deal to fix, but only an expert can tell you how bad the leak is and how much damage occurred because of it. Thankfully, we have good homeowner's insurance and we got more than enough money to fix the removal of a partial wall and ceiling to fix the leaky plumbing. Good luck.

Wet and green? Might it be algae? If you can scrap it off, it probably is. But since you have experts called in, I guess you will have the verdict soon. :)

As one who has done quite a bit of self build as a pastime and as everyone has already said it is probably a leak in a pipe in your bathroom. But what does the wall look like in there? Is it the same? If you have external waste pipes running along the wall to an outside drain it could be that they are leaking but then you would have that showing in the bathroom so I would think that it is a pipe which is buried in the wall which has a break.
If it is a copper pipe and its in bedded in concrete the copper has had a metallurgic reaction to the concrete which deteriorates the copper pipe causing it to fracture and leak.
You will probably have to have most of the plaster taken off that wall then left to dry out and then being re-plastered. Of course the floorboards could also be saturated so that means they must be dried out also.
How about the floor below if you live in a flat or second floor apartment, has that any signs of water damage to that ceiling?
If it has occurred over a long period it could be rising damp if you are on the ground floor.
Anyway its not a minor problem and the builder/plumber will sort it out and I hope you are fully insured.....!!
I do hope it has not effected your health too much as you have been laying very close to the wall and without you knowing the bed and bedclothes have absorbed some of the damp.
I do wish you the best of luck in getting this problem solved.

you need to call for a plumber soon and look into the matter as soon as possible. I think it might be due to plumping problem, where water might be leaking from the pipes which are connected to the sinks. I don't think it might be because of he roof leaking, anyway get it worked out soon and so you sleep healthy. Hehe take care

My mom and Dad had this problem when my sister and I were still living with them. Well almost the same. The water from the shower was leaking down behind the sealant around the bath, then it seeped down into the floorboards, eventually rotting the floorboards in the bathroom AND the living room. The floorboards in both rooms needed replacing, along with having new sealant putting round the bath.
It sounds to me like you've had a pipe leaking into your wall, rotting the wall and turning it green with mold. Depending on how bad the damage is, you MIGHT need the entire wall rebuilding. I think the homeowners insurance should cover the cost. I know my parents were able to claim for their problem on their insurance.

I think that you are getting a mold or fungus on the wall. The moisture is good weather for these things to grow in and since you said that it is green, I think that that is what you are facing. It's good that you are doing something about it because these things can make you sick.

I agree with takkea. And you´re right this could certainly be the reason why you haven´t been feeling too good lately. Good thing that you´ve called the plumbers so quickly. I think it would be best if you didn´t sleep in that room tonight.
Take care, dear friend.

Yes, I would seriously think that there is a leak in the wall from the bathroom.
And most likely, it has been there for a bit and you have not noticed it because it was behind your bed.
Hopefully this will be a quick and easy fix. But most likely also...if that is mold, you are going to have to replace part of that wall.
If your lucky though...maybe the green color came from the pipes instead.

Definitely sounds like a slow leak if it's turned "green" too. My guess is that there has been a leak that has saturated the plaster walls and allowed mold to grow. Good luck with it!

It is a bad problem if it has soaked through the wall. It must have been leaking for a while to make the wall go green. You need a plumber soon and probably a plasterer and decorator afterwards. Well done for calling in the 'cavalry' as soon as you noticed. I hope it all gets sorted soon and does not cost you too much. Do you have insurance?

I wonder if this has anything to do with my health problems. I do have homeowners insurance and hope that it will cover the cost or most of the cost of what needs to be done. The plumber is coming over tomorrow to look at it and see what needs to be done. I am sure part of the wall will need to be redone.

Now I dont want to freak you out here...but it looks like the Blob is trying to eat you alive. Im not really sure how to get rid of the problem. But im sure that you can find some guys to help you. You should do it as quickly as you can though, I had a friend that just let that thing hang around his house, and now he part of it!
