do you prefer to photograph people or scenary?

i enjoy taking photos and usually of scenary. cos it is more predictable. people or animals are hard. cos they move and once the moment is over, that's it. that's why i guess the photos that win contests tend to be of special 'moments' captured. and that doesn't include posed shots, ala wedding photography. although i must say wedding photographers take pains to make people pose naturally.
i like taking scenary, sometimes you can capture a rare moment of sunrise or sunset. the sky can be so amazing and make such a difference to your photo.

I would have to say that I much prefer to take pictures of scenery then I do people. In particular, I love winter shots with snow, blizzards etc... I am not sure why, but I fine them to be quite relaxing. People on the other hand, not so much. :)
cheers

it is not so easy to take candid photographs of people anymore. they can always file a complaint against one who will do it to anyone. there is so much talk about this rights crap. long ago, people feel elated if photgraphs are taken of them without their knowledge.

i will prefer to take photographs of sceneries over that of animals and people, too. the good photographs that can be taken of people and animals will have to be candid ones. and these are not easy to capture. once captured though, it will surely be an awe-inspiring take.

nature photographers are the best. those who get national geographic worthy shots have infinite patience.

I also like to photograph scenery rather than people. I don't know exactly why, perhaps because you can find so much more interesting moments in the nature around you than in people. Not that people aren't interesting but a) I have A LOT of pictures with my closed ones and b) I really don't dare asking strangers to pose, even though I'd actually like it very much (photographing strangers). That's why I take more scenery pics than people :P

usually those who take good pictures of strangers have a very powerful zoom lens. so they are not aware. the natural unposed shots are always best.

I enjoy taking scenaries. THere's something soothing about a well-taken shot. But lately, street photography and taking people in motion holds a certain fascination to me. It seems as if I've captured that moment in time, never to repeat itself.

It too depends on what I am seeking to find that day, either the perfect candid smile or emotion captured from a distance or a close-up of natures imperfections in the rocks, valleys, flowers, rivers or whatever my camera is aimed at.

you are right that posed pictures are not really intriguing. I like to take pictures of animals and birds though. It calls for a lot of patience, but once you get a good result, you feel at the top of the world. It is very difficult to photograph butterflies, but just think about your happiness when you get a really good shot!I love sceneries as well, and people too, especially if I can catch them unawares, in a special moment.

I have some many photos of the places in the world that I have travelled to. I have put them all in albums and like to look back on them from time to time. Scenery is the sort of thing I take photos of mainly. I prefer to take a photo of a special looking building without a crowd being in the way. But is busy cities this can be rather difficult so it does not really matter.
It is lovely to take photos of local people if they are dressed in a particular way. I saw a lady carrying a basket of her head when I was in Guatemala. So I took a photo of her. I also saw two women that were weaving in a market place. They were wearing lovely colourful clothes and so I took a photo of them as well. In Kenya I enjoyed taking photos of the Maasai people dressed in red robes. In Turkey I got a wonderful photo of an old man outside a mosque. It fitted the atmosphere of the village perfectly.
I don't enjoy having my photo taken very much. I like to take photos of my family and friends though.

yup, thanks for sharing so much! I think tourist attractions are so hard to photograph just cos there are so many tourists! but that's because the building is spectacular! a circular kinda problem.
yes, i have a friend working in a village in china and he takes photos of the locals. they oblige, especially children. he also has good shots of gnarled looking old men and women. they arent' really that old age-wise, but look older cos life is hard there.
i think the best shots of buildings or places of interest are the ones that have an object of interest in the foreground. like a cat or a local person. it makes the photo less post-cardy. and more meaningful to your experience of the place.

They are both skills in their own right!
Usually I prefer to photograph scenery. But given the opportunity, I want to move on to capturing more people.
It is a skill to be able to capture the perfect moment when you are taking picture of people. With scenery, you have all the time to focus, place your angle and shoot. For people, even when they are posing for the camera, there is a limit to the patience they have for the poses. Take too long and the smiles are no longer natural. Too fast and you may not get the focus or the angle right!
Like they say, practice makes perfect! Hopefully, I will be able to upgrade from a point-n-shoot to a basic SLR set ;)

agree that people's smiles become plastic after a while. my wedding photographer was very good at detecting that. he'd say 'plastic!' and then make us laugh or something, so that the smiles become spontaneous and natural again.
i was with divine couture. their package was reasonable and no hard sell. professional and talented designers, very pleased! can choose from various ala carte photographers. went with robin. prices have risen since then I've heard!

Give my anything but people any day. It's not easy to find a person who will not try to change their essence for a photo. Scenery will give me many chances to experiment with field of vision, focal depth, etc. I love to photograph animals because all you will see is their soul.

It depends on what I'm photographing for. If it is a vacation I like to have my family in the photos to show we were there and for the memories when we look at the photographs. If I'm doing it for myself or for pay, then I go with scenery.

I enjoy taking pictures. I love to capture moments, because most of our past are stored in our memories, and we cannot relive it. We even forget these memories. Taking Photographs is one way to get back to those moments we've had in the past. I like taking photos of people, places, flowers and others. But, just I like you, I simply love the sunrise or the sunset. Whenever I have the chance to capture the sun in its rising or setting, I take it. When I go to the beach, I wake up early to capture the sunrise and sit on the sand towards the end of the day to capture its setting. I feel so wonderful when I look at the photos I've taken. The way color changes in every movement of the sun is so amazing. It never cease to amaze me how great the Creator in Heaven is for painting such a wonderful scenery in the sky at the beginning and ending of every day. I also like to take photos of mountains, nicely-colored stones, winding rivers. But, I take time to take pictures of people too, specifically, children or babies. Since I'm a teacher, i really love children. I capture my students and cousins when they're dancing, eating, drawing, playing or simply sleeping. They're so adorable. I'm not a professional photographer or anything like that, but I just like the idea of taking pictures. If given a chance, I would like to take photography lessons and make it really a hobby.

I love both and it's really hard to pick one. I love scenary pictures and they're more easy to take because the moment seems to last longer. Also, I love to magnify how beautiful a place is by a scene and those are really lovely to watch later on too. But for people, I think I love it even though it's harder to take because it definitely brings more live into the picture and it makes you guess what the person was doing, thinking and dreaming at that time. It triggers off some imagination and I love it.

I like scenaries like landscapes, buildings, statues so you can reevisit them at any time. It is likely that you won;t go back to may of those places and you need mementos.
I take photos of people in special ocasions as I have the images of my friends imprinted in my mind :)
