I'm addicted to the little buggers. Be it in stir-fry, sauteed with steak and onions, smothering chicken or breaded and fried....
How do you like mushrooms? What are some of your favorite recipes for them? What are some original types that maybe we haven't heard of and how are they prepared?
I usually only eat the white button mushrooms. However, I do love the cremini, portobello, and morel mushrooms too.
White button, I use these in everything. My favorite is the steak w/ shrooms and onions. I love them breaded and deep fried too!
Creminis are best for stir-frys and casseroles as they are a sturdier mushroom and hold up better to the heat.
Portobellos. I don't use these much as they are a little expensive in my part of the world. I love to grill these ones though. Sliced and used as a meat substitute in a many dishes is nice too.
Morel... for me there is only one way to have these once a year morsels of goodness. Soak them in salt water overnight, mix up flour, salt and pepper, bread them and fry them in a pan of butter! Oh my! What a heavenly treat this is!
What about you?

Same here. If you like chinese food, if someone can cook braised pork in dark soya sauce, then add some chinese or can mushrooms into the stew. Let the mushrooms soak up the taste. Wow! It taste wonderful when you eat it. I just cooked a pot of it and I'm going to have it for dinner. mmmmm.....

I have not made this exact dish, but there is a chicken dish I make like this. I tried putting the mushrooms in there OH MAN! Talk about soaking up the salt! Wow! It was good though.

I like mushrooms, but don't often eat them becuase my parnter hates them (something to do with the texture, if you chop them up so fine he can't taste the texture he doesn't mind so much) so i don't really bother getting them. I do love a nice fried mushroom, either fried button mushrooms or a huge big flat (not sure what they are called) fried mushroom - yum!

Mushroom addicts unite!! I love every type I've ever tried and would spend way too much for portabellos if I didn't practice amazing restraint every paycheck. I think they are a great meat substitute, and actually about as expensive as some of the meats available here.
The best things I've ever tasted are morels prepared just like you said, by a mother of a college roommate, in Algoma Wisconsin, about 35 years ago. YUM! I've never been able to duplicate the flavor, but have never quit trying. It's very difficult to get morels here.
My favorite make-alot recipe is stuffed button mushrooms. Clean and decap, then stuff caps with frozen artichoke dip (nuked and sauted with garlic and green onions), then bake at low temp for 30 minutes, generously sprinkle with parmesan and broil for a minute until melted. Quick, easy and delicious. Take care and keep those recipes coming!
