When you get food that is not what you ordered, or not up to your standards do

you return it or ask for a refund? I know some people do this in a more expensive restraunts and places like that, but I am wondering if anyone does this when say they go through the drivethru for some fast food and you don't get what you ordered or it is sub-par in condition. Will you return it and ask for a different one, or maybe even ask for a full refund and leave without any food. Or are you like me and will just drive off and take it. lol There have been a couple of times that I actually threw the food away completely because it was so bad, but I didn't want the hassle of trying to go back and get my money back, so I just threw it away and got something else instead. :) Are you like me, or do you get a refund?

Hi uniquenorthern! It has happened to me a couple of times. I have never asked for any refund anytime though i may not have eaten the food. I always pay for it and if the restaurent owner has replaced the food on his own or refused payment it's okay.

You sound a lot like me, but I still get a little mad about it. Just wish they could do it right the first time you know? lol

I got sick of my food not being served to me correctly. They always added extra ingredients or left something off. So these days when I order my food I order everything plain. I figure they should be able to get that right. Its nice and simple. I have to admit that at times my order will still be messed up. If it isn't that bad I will go ahead and eat. But if it is just something that I can't tolerate then I will go up and complain. I don't think that it would be fair for me to have to purchase a second meal because they didn't get it right. Besides who is to say that they would be able to get it right the second time?

lol, I did the same thing for a while, but I got really tired of plain burgers. Plus like you they still tend to mess that up too, so I might as well go for the big kahuna and pick off whatever I actually didn't order. :)

I go back and make them correct my order. I don't have alot of money to waste because someone else fails to do their job correctly. I see no reason why I should have to pay for something twice when they should have gotten it right the first time. I even let the manager know how upset I am that I have to wait twice as long as I should have because the couldn't get the job right the first time. If this happens just once or twice I don't make that much of a big deal about it. Because I understand accidents happen. But there is one fast food restaurant here that I take my children to that always messes up my order. I would go to a different one but this is the one my children like and since I don't allow them to have fast food that often I think that they should get what they want.

I am like you, I take it and just move on. I don't think this is the best thing to do, but somehow I just can't be bothered fighting about it. There are too many other battles to fight in life. cheers,

Generally when i go through the drive through i don't think to check until i get home by which time it is too later and i just keep it. I would never dare to ask for a replacement meal in a fast food restraunt or any other, i would however ask for a refund. This is mainly due to the horrific stories i have heard ragarding what the chefs do to your food before they return it. Bodily fluids were involved!

I have never asked for a refund or sent it back. I used to work in a restaurant and the cooks would do horrible things to the food when it got sent back. I guess I'm just too afraid that would happen to me.

if its only a minor thing, well i just accept it e.g. a drink or something. but if its a total different meal, i stand up for myself and say excuse i m sorry but i didnt order this, and basically just wait for them to give me a response on how to deal with it, since im there to eat i would like the proper food to come out instead of getting a full refund. i find it also depends on the people serving you to how you would respond to this. because the other night i ate out with my partner and sister while visiting her and th waitress didnt listen so we asked about it, but if it was an innocent mistake well fair enough.

Yes, you are so right about the people that are serving you! I find that in sit down restaurants that I am more likely to point out a mistake or ask for something edible if the waitress/waiter is having an attitude with me. :) I am generally a really nice person to my waitresses/waiters so I really shouldn't be getting an attitude from them. It also affects the tip that they will get at the end of my meal! lol

That is a good question me I return it for what I wanted given that I got the time to do that. Food at any restaurant these days are expensive and I am not going to waste my hard earned money on something that I dont want. They are payed to give you what you ordered and nothing less. So yes I definitly return it for what I ordered in the first place.

If this happen to me, I think I would just tell them nicely and replace with the one I ordered. I dont dare to be rude to them in case they put something on my food or spit on it. We never know what they might do to our food if we are rude to them.

lol, oh how right you are my friend. People can be vindictive to the extreme if they feel that they aren't being treated fairly. And cooks and chefs are no different! :) Thanks for the response.

If my order gets messed up I ask them to replace it with the right order. When I order something thats what I want to have. That also goes for cold food. I like to have my food hot. Awhile back we ordered pizza, and had to call them back. The pizza was horrible. They were very nice about it though. Probably because it's a family run business. The 2nd pizza they sent us was very good. I guess the problem was the new dough had not risen properly.

I have done all the above. I guess it just depends on the mood that I am in at the time, but more times than not I would just eat it or get something else. Thanks for starting the discussion.

lol, you sound pretty much just like me when it comes to food and returns. I will do something about it if I am in a really bad mood and don't feel like taking any so called "crap" from anyone! :)

That depends on the place. If I order one burger at McD and get another one I'll probably just eat it. But if I'm at a fine resturant and get the wrong dish then I would send it back. I wouldn't demand my money back unless something really bad happened.

When I get food that I did not order or up to my standards, I will return it to the my server and tell them what is wrong with it. I will not ask for a refund unless my next order ends up the same way. I always give the resaurant a second chance but after that, I won't. I try not to be rude to them but they should serve the food correctly at least by the second time. I have also thrown away food to avoid the hassle of complaining about it. After so me times though, i will definitely ask for a refund.

Totally agreed with your comments. I am also polite when requesting a different dish because they messed up the first one in a restaurant, but there are some times that I just want my money back, as I have lost my appetite by then. lol

If they mess up our order we return and ask them to please make it right. Often they will give us a dessert for waiting or we have even been given coupons for free food. I cannot afford to just throw food away. Eating out is a very rare thing for us so I want it to taste good.

Thank you lightningMD for your response. I too cannot afford to throw food away just on a whim, and eating out at my house is a really special treat as we live out on the farm now, so it takes me at least 45 minutes to get to the next town. Long ways for food. :)

I don't like to order food by drive through for the very reason you speak of. It is so often a wrong order because they care about speed more than anything. I use to just tell myself that is what I get for ordering junk food. But lately I have a hang up with something and it is driving me nuts. I drive through Starbucks ALOT. I have a child in a car seat so it is easier to drive through. I order a drink that is made by topping it off with foam, when I get the drink there has been so much foam placed on the top and so little milk/latte that I might as well have payed for the drink a size smaller. I have tried ordering the rink without the foam and they tell me that "machiatto" means through the foam, so the drink is intended for the expresso shot to be added through the foam. Starbucks in tooooooooo expensive to not receive a full drink when you paid for it. I have become so annoyed lately about it that I actually go to the trouble to carry my son in and ask that they top of the drink with steamed milk. I really MUST kick this Starbucks habbit of mine.

I will go in and ask to talk to the manager and get my money back, if I have the time. I usually have lost my appitite if the food is that bad if it is at a drive through. If it is at a sit down restaurant I will say something if it is a wrong order. If I just do not like it, lets say I have never had something and I am trying it out, I usually will not say anything. I eat around it or I order something else. If I complain it depends upon my mood and how hungry I am. I that does not make sensce but I am a women and I am fickel

Whenever I order food and they give me something else, I always have it changed. The food I ordered is what I want to eat, so why would I settle for something else. I believe we all have the right to return something that we didn't order. Now if they refuse to change it, I'll demand for a refund.
