Would You Consider Homeschooling Your Child?

My 12 year old daughter has been homeschooled for 2 years now. She loves it! I have researched this since she was in elementary school because we are finding out that the school system is not getting any better. We started at 6th grade (middle school) and now she is almost done with 7th grade. I find that she learns more at home, going to her daily K-12 curriculum is a breeze, we joined CALIVA.ORG (California Virtual Academy), her teacher checks up on her on a weekly basis, she goes out on field trips with other homeschoolers in our area so she isn't lacking in the social skills. She also gets a quarterly parent-teacher-student meeting. When she was in the traditional school, she has been excelling, been on honor roll lots of times. But I noticed that the school, has been burdening parents with too much homework! And the ratio of teacher to students in most public schools averages at 1:35, which I think, is not ideal for learning. Once she became home schooled, her STAR test results had gone up - which to me is a very good measurement rather than being in honor roll, and she is not as shy as she was before. She is exposed daily to all kinds of people of different age brackets ...and she can hold herself in any conversation, even other parents of non-homeschool kids were speechless as she carries on with conversations with them. She had been to Stanford University last Summer and will return this year. All possible becuase she had advanced in her curriculum. So my question is...now that more and more parents look into homeschooling...not only for religious beliefs or illnesses. Even the government is funding it and sending computers to use for free, all text books, science materials, art meterials needs, etc...everything FREE and they pay your internetr connection too!! So witt hat being said would you consider it if you can afford to have 1 parent stay home? Let me know.

that sounds like what we are doing next year. my sixth grade daughter is going to be cyber charter homeschooled. they give us a laptop, printer, books, supplies and pay for internet service each month. she will take classes online at a certain time each day and have a teacher to email or call whenever she needs.
how do you like doing it? next year will be our first time doing this. we are both kind of excited. it is new for us so we cant wait to get it going.

We all love it...my husband stays home since he telecommutes...so he is the primary teacher so to speak. Her teacher also checks up on her every few days. I like it because my daughter determines her own speed at finishing things. It is safe too. Polls have shown that there are more homeschoolers nowadays, is because of the increasing in school violence- the Columbine School shooting is one example which had increased the enrollment population. We've met with other parents and they loved it, we go on field trips, study groups etc...some of my daughter's former classmates parents wish that they could do the same, but they have nobody to stay home with their children. I have heard that most parents nowadays if they have an option they would do it. The school system is being used as a daycare for families with multiple income parents. You just have to have the patience, good thing is you will not be alone becasue there is a Community Support or Billboard virtually you can go to. My daughter wants to continue this through High School. One thing I don't miss---selling goodies for the school fund raising. You will not have to deal with that anymore;-0
