Hello,
I have one another discussion thread regarding OS, where many people have suggested to go with the Linux OS. Do you feel that Linux is a Mature OS now and can compete with the other OS such as Windows ? If yes, which Linux Distribution is the best one ? Also how ? This will really help me out.. Thanks for your responses in advance.

I have use Linux before and it is really great, it is very good operating system and you will get rid of all those viruses, and spyware, I like Ubuntu because it is easy to use and the Installation is very easy, remember backup all your information before because you would lost all in the Installation, since you are beginner, windows xp is a good operating system but it is expensive and if you can get it for free, I think it is good idea install Linux, there is also a lot of free games for Linux so you will have a lot of fun, Ubuntu come with Mozilla Firefox and Gaim multiprocol messenger, it is really great because you can use at same time a lot of different id, like yahoo, hot mail, gmail, so you will can make all the thing that you do with Windows, if you can't download Linux for your Internet connection speed, you can get a cd with a distribution of Linux very cheap.

There are viruses for every platform, it's just a matter of how much. Windows has the most viruses because it's the most popular, followed by Macs and Linux. The only thing you can do, I would say, is to keep a close eye on both and not to neglect your security settings for spyware, viruses and adware. Hope that helps!

Linux is a lot better than windows.
Now Linux is mature enough and everyone can use it without difficulties.
There are a lot of advantages to use Linux instead of windows, I tell you some of these:
- Linux is free;
- Linux is virus free;
- Linux file system doesn't suffer of file defragmentation;
- Linux is more stable than windows, if Linux crashes there are surely hardware problems;
- You have certainty of performances, I mean, if you install Linux and you can experience a certain time to load Linux or a software, you can experience the same time also after a year, windows performances instead degradate during time;
- There are a lot of free software for Linux.
As regards for Linux distributions, I can tell you that there is a wide variety of them and you have to choose what you like best, my suggestion is to start with a user friendly distribution like Ubuntu or Mandriva, they are fast to install and easy to use, there also is the live version for both of them so you can try them before installing.

Thanks. I will give it a try. But I have heard Ubuntu is not KDE based and has just GNOME only. Is their a option there for me to use both KDE and GNOME ? I suppose you have a very good experience using UBUNTU, please clarify this for me.

There is really no such thing as the best OS. This will all depend on the user, which suites him best.
Linux distros are free anyways, I suggest get hold of a free copy and install it on a test machine. Once you get a feel of it, take it from there and see if it suites you. You can download Fedora core installers from here:

As a newbie you can use this link as a guide:

Linux rocks !
