Beware of e-gold account hacking

I dont know whether anyone's e-gold account got hacked yet but to share with you guys my e-gold just got hacked and the balance is empty now hehehe.I recieved an email from E-gold admin saying :
Dear e-gold account holder,
Access to your e-gold account has been temporarily disabled due to
the number of incorrect login attempts. This has been done to secure
your account and to protect your private information in case the
login attemps were not done by you.
Account access will remain disabled until this issue will be solved.
If you are the rightful holder of the account, please click on the
title bellow and log in to your e-gold account.
Respond to this notification
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate
assistance in helping us maintain the integrity of the entire e-gold
system. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Please do not reply to this automatically generated email message.
And than when i logged in i saw my balance gone empty and the last transaction was found was:
5/19/2007
23:17 Payment Made 80916721 Gold -0.002427 4450281 0.002427 oz 661.50
To: Ara Shirinian
So i guess it can be hacked so take some extra caution with your passwords and keep the balance in it as minimum as possible ,i have contacted the admin of E-gold and as soon as i get their response whether it has really hacked or they transferred my funds for security reason i'll update it.Thanks for reading it if you have :D .

i guess what happened to you is that you received an e-mail claiming to be coming from the e-gold admin and you were directed to a link for your e-gold account to be hacked. many times has e-gold owners reminded its account holders not to reply to any e-mails (in your case i think it was a fraud)which gives a link leading to your e-gold account. i think you were not careful enough to check the security measures of e-gold regarding e-mails coming from them.

thanks for sharing this invaluable info with us... even though i didn't use e-gold, but i think i can use this info to protect my paypal account and be very careful with my password... thanks again for the warning...

You are most welcome, now i have also seen one of my friend's ebay account got hacked so i guess its better to change your password atleast once in 15 days to better protect the online valuables you have.

Sorry to hear that BrainTeaser. I hope you don't have a lot of money in the account.
I wanted to join e-gold a while back but then I read a discussion here on mylot about e-gold having some problems because the owner was suspected I think in some money laundering and fraud. I don't know what happened in the meantime and if the owner cleared their name...
I guess we have to be careful online. The other day someone here on mylot was saying that their eBay account was hacked and that someone was trying stuff that she never listed. I guess the person was using her account to sell stuff that didn't exist. Now every now and then I go check my ebay account even when I am not selling anything. You never know... Since I have nothing in my e-gold account so far so I am not worried about it.But I feel so bad for you.Its so bad,we sum up the money there and it is happening,we cannot trust internet world.But now I am kind of afraid to use my e-gold,since some websites only support e-gold for payment option so it is kind hassle but,try to figure out some other way.I do not want to have my account hacked.Hey,Does somebody else know you password other than you?May be some one who knows you did this?

Thank you. Irequested payout. If you don't tell my account may also be hacked. Please tell or inform us if such case comes. Becasue we knows how hardly we are making our money. If it is hacked. Our works or hardworks is waste. Thanl you very much. Some said that my lot account are also hacked. Please take a note on it. Anyway thank you man. You saved 10$.

I think this methode is called "phising methode" . e--gold have tried to tell us at their site about security our account with this way from hacker. and the same methode have happened to paypal account holders. And i think maybe this methode have tried to do at many payment gateways/prosessors.

Yea i knew thats after i got hacked about these phising emails luring one into their trap,guess some lessons are good to be learned especially when they occur in the start of the journey!

e-gold always notice us dont open any links through the e-mail links given.and i think we must make sure our pc antivirus and spyware programs always updated.i didnt have the problem since i use e-gold till now.coz im always clear cookies,virus and spyware in my pc before i login to payment process site.

Yes and thats what i forgot at that moment that E-gold dont send emails from which they ask you to login directly so my mistake from the start.Thanks for responding.

Well dont be scared my dear, it was because i took the wrong step and now i wanted to beware all about not making the same mistake so the lacking part was on my side and not the e-gold site.

Thanks for the warning! This is another advice: do not access e-gold through internet cafes because sometimes they can see what your typing.
Another another advice (^_^): Use a different password to e-gold and never ever use it to any other sites, whether it is trusted or not, you will never ever be 100% secured when using the internet.
