Visual medium or Print medium, you prefer?I like both. I watch TV not only for serial stories, interviews and for News and sports. Cinema I see getting DVDs.
But the impactI get from books, periodicals and Net work sites, especially this last one, is so forceful and sustaining that I am devoting, 70% of the time available for entertaintment for the print-electronic media.
What do you think about this?
Which type of media suits you best? Why?
Is there any danger of over indulgence in any?
Any physical or emotional problem assosiated?
Please do share your views!

That means we are not ready to imagine things and thoughts on the basis of what is given in the book. Cinema or TV gives only one version.

It depends on what you have grown up with. I cant study using a comp. i would rather read books. But for stories, movies. Its seeing. One more point i believe that your imagination improves while reading since your brain has to do a lot of exercise.

as a student right now, I prefer reading because i feel the essence of the print media. it even touch my soul. i hate watching television because it disturbs my mind especially school days. visual medium bring a lot of danger. especially to the youngs because it affects their viewpoint in life and what matter most is their attitude toward everything. but this depend on the situation. people have their preferred medium because we have differences too.

Say a story: when see it in TV, the characters, the scene, the action etc are confined to that shown. our imagination has little to play.
When we read the same story in a book, we can picture the people, context, action etc. according to our imagination. So it gives greater pleasure.

I must say that I definitely enjoy watching tv more. Im not much of a book person and I'm also a bit lazy. unfortunately. So tv for me is both extremely entertaining and easy to use. : )

I like both. I LOVE to read, but sometimes if I am tired or have a headache I prefer to zone out in front of the TV. I don't think that books translated to TV are that great, really. I can't really pick a favorite between the two, since it just depends on how I am feeling. Sometimes I read and watch TV at the same time, which drives my husband nuts. I read during the commercials. lol

Since I am a very visual person I always prefer a visual medium like television or visual artwork. I remember things and am able to stay interested in these things more than reading something or listening to someone speak.
It is important to refer back to printed resources though. When doing research, for example, using a diverse selection of resources like books, movies, internet and encyclopedias can be very helpful.

i really dont like reading, but im a student and it helps me understand my lessons if i also read. i also love watching tv,but now i think i prefer watching vcd's and movies. i like the characters and the roles they portray, sometimes i feel that im in the same shoe with the character on the movie..
if u are addicted to rading it can affect your eyes and vison,if you get addicted to tv, you may miss some important things because i was once addicted to tv and i began to stick with it i never go out i just watch and watch tv..

If I want to satisfy my visual sense then I'd be more enticed by a visual medium. But as I was enticed by the images, I would love to still exercise my imagination and understanding of a certain subject that I would prefer print medium more.

I prefer print media any time! Yes, I do watch movies and TV shows but while doing so I think I am not at all using my brain at all. Its a mechanical process and the images on the screen are captured by eye and the impulses are transmitted to brain to perceive the things as they are being shown on the screen! It is almost like our daily life routine which we are encountering! Like we are walking through market daily and we are seeing many things daily and meet many people daily and we simply forget about these things as these things never have any lasting impression on your brain until unless something very unnatural thing happens!
Same way I really don't find visual media very fascinating, except for those things which are factual and about whom I can never even think to see them , like shows being shown on Discovery Channels etc
Now coming to reading part of it! I love reading and believe me I make a cosy place where I can relax comfortably and read a book of my choice or reading material of my choice! Reading takes me into a world which is absolutely my own one, as imagined by my own one and I create my own characters and the styles of characters, places, incidents etc.
What I mean to say is is a sentence written will be perceived by me in a different than anybody else! When an author describes beauty of an lady, he utilises a lot of words and each word he uses implies some thing to the reader. These words mentioned by the author which are same every time will give a pretty different imaginations in two different individuals! This is not experienced in visual medium. A beautiful face shown on the screen along with a pleasant music, to introduce a beautiful lady will make me to experience the same thing what the other person experiencing, who in turn is watching the lady on screen, because there is nothing left for imagination! Lady is there, and she is beautiful and that's all!
That's why in Hindi language there is a saying which means a poet can reach to the place where even the sun can not dare to ! That means our imaginations can go to any extent and there is no binding to it and we can roam in our own made world through the print medium !
Though it may look a old fashioned idea, but I am still a big fan of print, books, litterateurs and the authors!
Thanks dear friend for initiating such a nice topic of discussion! Wish you all the best!

for entertainment's sake, of course i would prefer visual media.
but just like you, media that is to be read is more retained inside my head. maybe this is because we get to read word for word and understand it's meanings.
but generally, i can totally enjoy both. =D
