Do you commute to work? Or going to any other place?

When I was a teenager, I've always wanted a car. Not sporty cars or luxury cars, but just your ordinary, reliable car that could get me from point a to point b.
Well, due to rising gas prices and inflation, I have scratched the car out of my "things to buy" lists and have decided that commuting is really not bad and actually saves me a lot of money.
I was just wondering how many people actually commute to work and decided not to buy cars or just leave their cars at home? just leave their cars at home?

I don't have much of a choice. I live in a very small town outside a larger town, close to being in a country setting. There is no public transportation here. So if I am needing to make it into the bigger town I have to drive myself. I try to carpool with someone else to save on gas but that isn't always possible. I walk to as many places as I can but there aren't that many here to walk to.

Wow, no public transportation? Not even a bus? Thanks for sharing. Another new thing I've learned. I've always thought that you can pretty much get to anywhere in America by public transportation.

It is always easy to commute through public transport. It is not only cheaper but safer also. Driving one's own vehcile is a real nightmare in the heavey traffic. No doubt you save time, when you drive your own vehcile..but the risk of accidents etc. is always there. I use both public transport as well as my own vehicle, depending upon the time available me.

Yep, accidents are another thing I'm worried about when driving a car.

I commute going to work and also almost everywhere i go. ^_^ i love commuting because aside from saving money for the high gas prices, it's also less of a hassle, like looking for a parking space and dealing with traffic. At least when i commute, i can choose to walk when it's heavy traffic, or change rides. =)

LOL. Yeah, you could never walk out on your car and walk when there's heavy traffic.

I'd love to own a car however with high gas prices, insurance prices and car maintainence prices, I'm not sure how many people can afford them. I get a decent fair salary at work, but I can't imagine spending another $400-500 a month on something to get me from point a to point b, when it only costs me $60 a month to take transit. :)

Yeah. If they lower gas prices, I think it would be more feasible to buy a car.

Yes i commute to work and yes though i own a car it is not feasable in Mumbai in india where in i cannot afford to take my car to work so i take a local train from where i stay and then get down at Churchgate and then a public transport bus which drops me right below my office so yes in a country like india it is not easy to go to work by car everyday hence a lot of people commute by public transports

OH yeah, I've heard that traffic is terrible in India, I've seen it in the Amazing Race when they visited your country.

i and my hubby commute to work even though we have a car... we just leave the car at home because like what you say it saves us a lot of money with the rising price of gas... we only use the car if really needed... otherwise, it stays in the carport... :-)

Yeah, rising gas prices stinks. I wish it would change so I could get a car.

it was easy then to move around with a vehicle at hand but nowadays you will think twice before going out with a car.you would time it to go to several places at one trip.i would rather commute to go to some specified areas where commuting is possible but if i am going for a meeting for a client, i have to be fresh as possible so i have to use my car.

Yeah, that's the only downside about commuting, when you go to work, you'll look like you've just been through a stampede. LOL.

I would want to buy a car if I can afford it. Now I can only afford to pay by instalments a chauffeur who drives a big car and is kind enough to take anyone who goes the same way. Not too bad, I can change chauffeur whenever I like. lol.

Our house is just about 10 minutes from my place of work so I use my old reliable car in going to and from work. It's really more out of necessity rather than luxury, or both rolled into one. Besides, we don't have a problem on traffic so that I don't spend much on gasoline. I also plan my trips so that I limit my trips to the grocery once every three days more or less. I understand that in other places, commuting is much better than using your own car though. I agree that it really saves you a lot of money.

Wow, just ten minutes? That's good. I wish I could live nearer my work so I don't have to worry about being late all the time. LOL.

With the price of gas these days I would love to be able to just leave my vehicle at home. But since there is no form of public transportation where I live I must use my vehicle to get back and forth to work. Otherwise, I try not to drive any more then I possiblly have to. Its really a double edge sword. If I was to live in a bigger town my housing would cost me more as well as having to worry about crime but public transportation would be availbale. However, living in a smaller town gives me a safer place to live that doesn't cost half as much to live in but I do have to have a vehicle which I have to put gas into to be able to drive. Now, I don't believe that with the cost of insurance, gas , and what I paid for the vehicle it costs me more to live in my small town then what it would have cost me to live in the bigger city.

i drive my car to the train station and park my car there. i take the train to work. don't wanna drive because i work in the city centre and it's always pack with cars, plus i get to save on parking and fuel too. in my country, it's "impossible" to not have a car lol..wherever i go, it's by car, either mine or friends/family.

riding with public transportation is a good choice in going to work because not only you can save your money but also it can save our mother earth in population. If there are lots of car in the road it only means that more population can be generated. let's RIDE with a PRIDE in our public transportation.

I think there are lot of cars on the road. People who have cars seem to have forgotten how to walk.

My dad used to drive me and my brothers too when we were going to school but we had to commute when going home from school.
