Did you have a pet when you were growing up?

I grew up with a lovely border collie named Kim who was with me till I was thirteen. I also had two guinea pigs called Bill and Ted. I think pets are great for kids; it teaches them responsibility and gives them something else to love. Did you have one growing up and if so tell us about it!

I had almost 30 rabbits with me when I was growing up!! Gee those were wondeful days!! They all had their own name! I used to sleep with thme in winters it was so warm with them !! I loved them a lot!! But oh sigh I don't have them any more just because they were taking a lot of maintainence to keep them!! So my parents shifted them to some relative place place far away from me!!

When I was a little girl I had a cat called Nutmeg as she was a nutmeg colour. She was a constant companion and my responsibity. She used to sleep in my room, in a cat bed I made for her, she was a real character cat and always up to mischief.

When I was real young and lived in Florida I can remember having a dog, I think his name was Opie or something like that, my Mother used to tell a story that I pulled on his ears and sat on him all the time and we always had a cat my entire life (different ones) and to this day I love cats.

Oh yes - I was bought up in a house full of animals, which is probably why I'm so crazy on all my pets now! Our house was always full of waifs and strays that my Mother bought in - at least one dog, and 3 cats at any one time! We had two boxer dogs, named Shelley and Bruce, a Golden Retriever called Rowan, a English Bull terrir called Jo, and an English Setter named Lucifer among others! There were also tabby cats Rebecca and Susie, two tabby and white ones called Flurry and Tigger, and ginger toms Sandy and Kerry. I cannot imagine a life without pets - they make the home complete in my opinion.

Oh yes linz, I grew up with lots of animals, mostly dogs, but we also had budgies over the years, and a minor bird who talked. I think it's good to bring kids up with animals, they can learn so much from them, as well as learning responsibility. We brought our kids up with dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, and we even had a sulphur crested cockatoo when we came to Australia who talked his head off, and a cockatiel (small parrot)! I have always had animals in my life (still got two dogs now), and couldn't imagine life without them.

Wow, that's a lot of animals! Your lucky, though i'm sure it doesn't feel like that when you have to clean up after them!

Growing up I picked up so many strays and disabled animals. I once found a bird with a broken wing that I nursed to heath. It flew away and for a few days kept coming back. I never saw it again.

That's lovely! My Dad was like that when he was a child, always finding animals to help.

Yes we always had cats when I was younger, then we had a collie called shep when I was around 8 years old. I've still got cats, hamsters and dagus, but can't really have a dog as I don't have time for one really and it would be unfair to them!
