Have You Ever Suddenly Become Aware Of Yourself?

May 20, 2007 6:50pm CST
Sometimes when I'm at work and reading a story to a group of kids I suddenly become aware of myself, who am I, what am I doing here and then I have to pull myself back to reality. I am finding this hard to explain, but has anyone suddenly been conscious of what they are saying or doing as if it is an out of body experience. I would love to know that other people experience this so I am not mad!! PLEASE RESPOND BEFORE THEY TAKE ME AWAY!!!

Pretty much everyday I have out of body experiences and and I use all of my kleenex to wipe it up!! Seriously I know what you mean, when I am walking into a shop or just down the street I am aware of me walking and then if people look at me I'm conscious of my walk becoming daft and I try to walk normal but I feel like I am failing. More often than not it is the many acid trips I had as a child that make me so cool and funky so I continue on my path of destruction!!

I do end up being too engrossed and forget who I am. It is not so much as suddenly became aware of myself. Sometimes, when keys hit, it is just difficult to pull back. I only come to senses only after I have finished the whole presentation and think back what had happened. It is sort of being possessed. lol.

I sometimes see myself and what I'm doing and saying and it can be a bit eary to say the least. Ah to see ourselves as others see us - what a curse! It usually makes me want to behave better and get thinner lol.

No a sign of madness is hair on the palms of your hands and the second sign is looking for them like you are now, lol! You probably have a little natural psychic talent, maybe you could look at improving your skills?

It is a very odd feeling I must say! I hope its not a sign of madness????

This happens to me every once in a while but I never quite knew how to explain it. Your just moveing along doing what you always do and then all of a sudden your like what am I doing here? where am I? and then everything is back to normal and your there wondering what just happened. This kind of thing has been happening to me for years and I couldnt really explain it. I dont think I've ever told anyone about it because I didnt want them to think I was crazy. I guess I'm not the only one. LOL. Take care, Terry

Good to hear there are a few of us. I have told people in the past and they just give me an odd look. It is very hard to explain if you haven't experienced it. Thanks twils2, I feel better now.

Yes I get that feeling quite often and always have done. The first time I got it I was quite young - maybe about 11 or 12 - and reading out loud to my class at school. It did freak me out a little bit although I've got used to it but it's a strange feeling. It is quite difficult to explain but it is sort of similar to what I would imagine an out of body experience to be like. I only ever get it if I'm talking to someone else though. It's never when I'm alone or not speaking. There again I long ago came to the conclusion that I'm a bit strange lol!

I know exactly what you mean and I am so glad that you can explain exactly the same feelings I have had. I have got used to it like you, but when it catches me unaware it is such an odd feeling. Thanks for sharing this. Now I know I am not mad!!!

I have these moments pretty often... and each time it's still just as startling as the first. BUt I've learned to kind of enjoy them and try to learn from them.

I'm glad other people do experience these. I suppose the best thing to do is just go with the flow and try and learn from them. Thanks.

Yep! The worse is when it happens when I am speaking, in front of a group. The whole time my mouth is moving, it's like I am standing outside my body watching myself. Sometimes it gets so bad, I have to ask a friend, "what did I say?". Nuts? I don't put it beyond me, LOL.

I know what you mean. I have had to say things in public and I get so nervous I can't remember after either. "Nuts" is a good description.LOL

I can make this happen all the time. Becoming aware IS reality. If I want to become aware of myself, I focus on my breathing. How often do you even realize you are breathing, let alone other things? The more you can become aware of yourself and your surroundings, the more you will awake to all that is present in your life. The more you will find meaning and joy in the smallest things, that before you never noticed, because you have been asleep to your own self. That is the state of most people. If you have moments of awakeness, embrace them.

What a wonderful way of putting it sigma. It is great when we can switch off the automatic pilot button and actually enjoy what is so taken for granted. Thanks.

I have experienced this. I become aware of my voice and people seem at a distance, it can be quiet daunting and I too have to pull myself back into reality.

They're coming to take me away - haha, hehe - to the funny farm etc.......... No - seriously -I do know what you mean. I have on occasions been sitting at my desk or wherever and kind of "see" myself if that makes sense. Mind you, my "better half says that's just because I drink too much vodka!!!!

LOL!! Its when you suddenly become aware of what you are doing or saying as we usually don't become aware of ourselves as such. It hard to explain. I know, lock me up and throw away the key!!

I know what you're talking about. This use to happen to me a lot back when I wasn't happy with my job and with the way things were going in my life. When things got better it didn't happen to me so much anymore.

This is really funny that you wrote it like that but I can recall about 10 years ago..I am 45..I did the same thing..weird me..was getting into my car and poof..it dawned on me..who am I?..and why am I here? Am I just dust in the wind..like the song goes..or is there more to it..I really was questioning my mortality..but you know what?..I found myself.I got saved..I really believe that you do have a soul and you have to make a decision...I think that is kind of where you probally are too..but common sence will tell you that there is more to it then just..nothing..and "you"...and "I"..really are here to make a decision..

Thank you so much, I am so glad I am not the only one who has felt like this. It has to be one of the most weirdest experiences. I think we are so much in automatic pilot most days that it can suddenly hit us. Who are we and what is going on!!! I feel alot better now, Cheers.

Sure, I do it a bit especially when I'm down or something like that, it's when I snap out of it when I suddenly become aware that I'm me. Nothing more.. Just me ~Joey
