When Asked A Silly Question, Why Analyse The Question, WHY?

I have been on many funny discussions on mylot that hope for a funny response. What I find odd is the amount of members who analyse the question, or believe it is real.
Do you think some people should stop analysing the discussions and just lighten up a bit.
You know, It won't kill you!!!

I think it ought to be possible to tell pretty quickly when a discussion is serious and when it is a little more light hearted. Sadly, some people seem less adept at spotting this than I would have thought they would be. I think people should indeed lighten up on the lighter discussions. If they are not for them then they can stay away and become involved in topics that are more to their liking.

Here, here Woodpigeon, you have hit the nail on the head. I think some of the members on this site have experienced a head injury.LOL--thought I'd add this just incase I get accused of disrespecting those with head injuries.

Sometimes it's difficult to tell if the question is serious or not.
I know that I'm guilty of thinking something was serious and it wasn't.
I felt really stupid once that fact was pointed out.
I guess, for me anyway, the writer needs to make it clearer. lol ~Ginger~

I must admit I did this once and was very red faced afterwards.
I must admit though it is funny to read some of the responses people make when they have not realised. Sometimes they are funnier than the genuine funny ones, but other times they are so anal, I want to shout "Get a Life"LOL
Thanks otshock.

LOL - well I know what you mean! I thin a lot of it may have to do with the huge number of people here from different parts of the world. What may seem humourous to us laconic Brits (renowned for our dry sense of humour), and even to our friends in America who speak the same language, may be completely incomprehensible to people who speak Eglish as their second language. They will just see the words and take them at face value - not understand the humour beneath them.

I must admit I never thought of that.
I work with a woman from the Ukrain and we are teaching her our sense of humour, she is a fast learner!
Thanks Rosie.

I wish people would stop posting stupid discussion or irrelevant ones to be honest. I do think people analyse too much and you can't help some I'm afraid. I do think this site should have some indepth discussions though, but these seem to be pushed to the sideway to give room for some silly inane discussions that people find easier to answer. I do feel some people take this place too seriously though and I suppose I am guilty of that (especially a discussion I've took part in today where this guy was still talking about Celebrity Big Brother and accused all English people of being racist!!) Anyhow in answer to your question yes I do think people should lighten up with regards to silly stuff, and leave the more serious stuff to people who can handle it lol Hope that waffling made sense!

Some people may be thinking that by analysing the question they are showing that they are the best response and should be chosen so.
I agree there are times you just have fun and enjoy.

I agree with you my friend. Sometimes analysing the question just does not fit in with what is being asked.
I went on a discussion just now about drinking at work. Everyone should realise that this would never be acceptable, but a couple of the responses had to point this out. Why, it was a tongue in cheek discussion that could get some very witty not anal responses.
Some members here need to lighten up!!
Thanks brothertuck.

Maybe some people don't understand that it is indeed a silly question and are earnestly trying to be good mylotter members by writing as descriptive and analytical answer as possible. Also, if English is not your first language it might be a little hard to get the irony or tongue in cheek humour.

Oh I do it for the fun of it.
I think it's pretty clear when I do it that I'm joking and slightly hinting towards (what's the point) but I think people are entitled to a discussion this way.

Hello, ittakesallsorts, honestly i seldom answered to some 'funny'discussions, most of the discussions i replied were the 'boring 'ones, may be because I am a boring person.:P,but i did read those 'funny' discussions ,like those discussions of jokes, but i had noticed that people who replied to those jokes also gave interesting replies as well which always made me laughing. Unfortunaelty, most of the jokes had been deleted.

I'm sure you are not a boring person easy. I think sometimes it's hard to read whether the discussion is serious or not and maybe only people with a bit of a sick sense of humour will respond to these discusssions.
You should check out jimbo45, alfieklondyke or waynet if you want a laugh, they are in a league of their own.
Thanks for your comments.
