Why is Coke more expensive than Pepsi?

I noticed here lately, that Coke is way more expensive than Pepsi is and I don't know why.
For a 12 pack of Pepsi its $2.50 and Coke is $3.79 plus tax. A 24 pack of Pepsi is $4.98 and Coke is $7.18 plus tax.
I don't understand why Coke is considerably higher than Pepsi is. Does anyone else know why? If you do please fill me in.
I'm a huge fan of Coke and really don't like Pepsi that much but I'm getting to the point where I can't afford to buy Coke.

I don't know why, but maybe because Coke is more popular? I have never understood when people have said they couldn't tell the difference between the taste of Coke and Pepsi, because I think they taste totally different. I prefer Coke so much more, and I honestly don't even really like Pepsi. I think they are so different in price because they are different brands, and different brands choose their own prices. It's like asking why two different brands of laundry detergent are differently priced...it's because they're two different brands. I hope this helps...it's the only logical reason I could think of!

I make my stock happy! :p
I dunno why that is. Coke is a higher demand product I think. Most restaurants carry it and a lot of people buy it, so maybe its getting harder to make. Chemicals are getting expensive due to gas prices...
That has affected alot of stuff right there. Gas prices. I literally CRAP myself when I go to buy stuff in the store. Chaps my cheeks to have to pay $5 for a stinking bag of apples or oranges! Especially apples, as lots of times they are bruised and sometimes not good.

Well, I'm a diehard Diet Pepsi drinker and must admit I've never compared the price difference - I just figured they were about the same. Glad I prefer the less expensive one.

From an economic point of view, this is because of the law of supply and demand. If people want to buy a product more than another (similar to the first), like coca cola and pepsi, the price of the first one increases.
So, because people usually prefer coca cola than pepsi the price of the coca cola increases.

My hubby was just saying that very same thing this morning when I talked with him. He's in a business class so I guess he's learning something. LOL!!

I know where I live it depends on what is on sale. One week Pepsi will be on sale for $4.50 for a case. That week Coke will cost you $7.97. The following week it will be switched Pepsi will be the more expensive soda. I no longer drink any kind of soda but my fiancee and mom do so I am constantly buying it for them. I only buy their soda when it is on sale. I try to stock up enough so that they have enough soda till it goes on sale again. I hate having to pay the higher price.

I think its pretty obvious. Because pepsi is made of sewage which is considerably cheaper then the all natural organic ingredients in coke! :D

you answered to the both problems. Coke is much more popular and known as a family drink that otherwise pepsi hasn't such much popularity and therefore is cheaper. You know that a "brand" costs in all circumstances. Will coke loose for pepsi because is more expensive? i think you answered that question.

Many people won't drink anything but Coke because it's not only good, it's a fast cure for heartburn. Makes ya burp and feel better--works like a charm, and been working since my grandad's day.
Supply and demand, we demand it and they supply it for an arm and a leg. Next they will want our firstborn for a box of Twinkies...

They sell it with a lower price in order to get more people drinking it. Like it is happening to you many people can't afford to pay more for coke when Pepsi is almost the same and it is much cheaper.

I noticed this too, what is the deal? I think that coke products are more mass sold, its a more bought soda product. I think that pepsi is just not bought as much, but in my family i'd disagree. My husband loves it, its like candy in a can for him he says. Personally I like the price difference because I don't buy coke products, i'm more of a pepsi or dr. pepper person.

I don't know why it is such in your country. In my country, I mean India, both Coke and Pepsi are of teh same value. All the bottles and cans of them costs the same. We do not face this type of problems here. Generally all softdrinks here in India, are of the same price.

I can't say that I have noticed a difference in price. Unless one is on sale. Then there is a big price difference. I am a Mountain Dew, no matter what it costs me I will pay the price that they want. I can drink other types of soda but I don't care to. Like a couple of others have responded I try to stock up on my soda as well when it is on sale. I try to make sure that I have bought enough to last till it goes on sale once again.
