Gas Prices

Just out of curiousity...how much is gas in your area? Has the cost made you change your driving habits at all? Gas in our town is now at (or at least last night) $3.29. Isn't that rediculous? What is the world coming to if a gallon of gas cost more than a gallon of milk?

You guys rate per gallon? One gallon is 3.78L, Liter price of petrol is around 1.5 Eur per Liter making it 5.67 Eur per gallon. Convert Eur to USD and we come out on about 7.65 USD per gallon. Now my question is, what are you guys whining for? Your petrol prizes are cheap as god knows what, you simply can't have things for free in this world and it can be a lot worse as you see.

Public transportation is used by about 10% of the people, of which mainly students. The rest simply drives and then to add we aren't the most expensive European country, Norway with a couple of cents per liter extra would come down on about 7.80 USD per gallon. In the US people pay even less than half of what is paid in the average European country, whilst for many countries here the public transportation possibilities are equal or perhaps even worse. But even if public transportation is good many prefer to use their own transport anyways. A major difference though is that unlike in the states we don't drive cars which do 4~5 miles a gallon here but our cars go about 6 miles a Liter making it about 21 miles a gallon. Just the few which have American cars here like hummers and those massive pickup trucks and such use such vast amounts of petrol. Fuel efficiency is rare in the states even though they like to complain about the prices so much, the responses to driving a Volkswagen or Volvo by many is a loud laugh even though they could save thousands each year on petrol. The latest models currently can go up to about 40 miles a gallon already and going up even further, especially when driving as fuel-saving as possible you can probably go up to around 21km per Liter which is nearly 40 miles a gallon already; although especially for men this is a tough job, haha.

Our gas prices here are at $3.39. I think they had better get a hold on things or alot of companies and people will be going bankrupt. People cannot keep going on like this. We make $13 an hour and have to drive 20 miles to work a day. I also have to take my disabled son to the Dr. 60 miles once a week. We stay home most of the time. Everything goes up but our paychecks. There is hardly anyone hiring around here, so changing jobs is not an option, and on top of that, we would not have insurance on our disabled son if he changed jobs. It is getting to a point that we have to literally scrape by and I know that there are others that are worse off than we are. Washington needs to do something before all the businesses have to close their doors.

In the UK, they gave up pricing oil in gallons about 10 years ago, because it broke £3.00 (approx $6.00). They now list the price in litres to make it seem cheaper, though as that is about £2.00 ($4.00), they'll probably change to 'cups of oil' soon!

I am currently paying $2.98 a gallon which is better than any other place I have seen, actually there is only two blocks that have that price and then it goes up to about $3.04 a gallon, which is still pretty good. The gas price situation is awful and I am trying to figure out why the government hasn't stepped in and tried to take control of the price gouging.

As of last night the gas price varied depending on what gas station we looked at. The prices around here are $2.99, $3.09 and $3.19 but I believe that the majority is $2.99 right now. I agree that it is crazy when gas becomes more expensive than milk and any other neccessity of living. There really should be some sort of limit as to what the gas stations can charge us.

Here the main fuel used for vehicles is petrol and diesel and in rupee terms they are costing 47 and 31 respectively. The prices here vary from state to state as there is no uniform state tax on this commodity and each state is charging tax varing from 10 to more than 30% of the base price.

I agree with you, on the fact that gas prices are outrageous! And yes, we have very much changed our driving habits, and try to conserve a little more. Gas is also around $3.29 where I live. Maybe the world will go back to riding bicycles????

Gas around here is as high as 3.39. There has got to be a better way to get around. Hey psychodude, many of us in the US have cars that get better then 20 miles to the gallon. I have a 20 gallon tank, I drive over 40 miles everyday to get to work, plus regular driving around for shopping or errands. etc. I get gas every 2 weeks. It is a 9 year old minivan and while now my son is grown, I can't afford a more fuel efficient car.
