home made or shop bought?

i was just wondering how many people out there (regardless of preference) actually choose home made over shop bought where food is concerned? there are many things in my kitchen that i could make if i took the time, but i prefer to buy them from a shop, for example: bread. i have made bread before, but i found it a long process, and often a little more costly that just buying a cheap pre-cut loaf at the shop. but there are many things that i do make myself such as chips (fries to those mylotians that are American), both me and my son prefer home made chips to those that you can buy in bags (frozen) and then put in the oven. i also prefer to make my own burgers, simply because i know there is nothing going in it to change the flavour (like dried onion, pepper and such), my son also prefers these to shop bought. so how many of you out there actively try to make alot of your food from scratch? and how many prefer the convienience (and time saving) of pre-made foods?

We do a little of both around my house but as it gets busy the menu swings more towards packaged stuff. My wife still kicks it up a bit with her own herbs and spices which does help but I'd still prefer fresh. Several of my favorite dishes can't be bought at a store.

the majority of my favorite dises can be store bought, but i have a major preference to make it myself, the reason is usually to do with taste. i love macaroni cheese, but the pre-paceketed stuff just tastes awful, often the macaroni is chewy, and the cheese sauce tends to leave a nasty after taste. plus i often find potions are minescule lol, and i love a big meal haha!

I can't cook a small meal. When I cook its enough to feed an army, thats why my wife does the day to day cooking and I do the campouts, get togethers and such.

I make most of my food from scratch. It's more time consuming but that way I know exactly what's in it...no artificial ingredients, no hydrogenated fats, no corn syrup or other processed ingredients. My husband and I think it tastes much better too.

i am quite the same when it comes to preparing my own food, i would much rather make everything myself, unless it is something like lasagne sheets, though i will tend to buy the fresh chilled ones rather than the dried ones when i do buy them.

Let's see. Usually I make everything homemade. I make my own bread, in a bread maker. I usually make a loaf every second day. I put it on at night so we have a fresh loaf in the morning. I make my own french fries, I cut them up and toss them in oil and put them in the oven. The last few minutes I put it on broil to get them nice and brown. I hate the store bought frozen ones. They have no flavour and they don't get brown or crisp. I always make my own burgers just because it's cheaper. I also like to add my own stuff to them, like onions and egg and bread crumbs. Sometimes I add rolled oats instead of bread crumbs. I make my own soups, too. I never buy prepackaged soups except tomato soup, just for cooking, like cabbage rolls. I make my own cream of mushroom soup and it tastes much better and I put in more mushrooms than the cans of soup. I love to cook and so does my hubby, so we pretty much always have something cooking on the stove.
