My husband and I have decided to homeschool all of our children. Our son is now four and will be five this fall. He will be in kindergarten...He is really excited.
Here is my question...When do you usually start you school year? And how many hours do you spend a day and week on school?

Well done on making the decision to home school. I was going to do it with my daughter but she is so social she wanted to go to school, so I home school her as well. We spend 30-60 mins a night after school doing extra reading and work. I tend to give her one of the weekend days off but continue working with her all through the holidays as I don't want her to forget the skills she has learned during the term.
My daughter is 5 and if I was homeschooling her I would probably spend about 3 hours a day with her, as I think that is about as much as she gets at school. Each year I would probably increase the time by half an hour so that by the time she has reached senior school age she is working a 6 hour day which I think is long enough.
Of course the learning time doesn't have to be spend studying with books on a desk, they can be exploring the outdoors, going to museums, learning how to help in the house etc.

it is good that it is so easy to homeschool your children in your country. until now, this is not available in our country. i hope that this will soon be made available for us also. there are so many advantages for this, both from the side of the parents/children and the government. as for the school hours of your children, i believe that you can consult with the authorities in your place about education. here we call the authority on education as the department of education.
