Your Computer Habits...

Ok, so it's a bright new sunny day. You get up, take a shower and clean your teeth, take breakfast and take a cup of coffee to your computer. You switch on your computer.... where is the first place you check?
I tend to check my e-mails first and deal with those; then inevitably there are some Mylot notifications in there, which I try to clear. Then it's a mixture of clicking and reaching my response quota for the day, before update. After that, I can relax and surf a bit, and take a more leisurely afternoon and evening, chatting with friends and such.
So how do you organise your day on the computer and which is your first site to log into... what is your home page?

I do make some money on surveys. I join those that will allow me to be part of a focus group whether online or in person. They pay from $5-25/per survey and if you qualify for a live focus group they pay you from $100-250/session for your time. As a matter of fact today, after work I am heading towards a research focus group here in SF close to my work, they will pay me $250 for my participation to test and review a new product like a diet or power bar. Next month I am already scheduled to do a fashion focus group also in SF, they will pay $100 plus I get to bring home some designer merchandise. In MY Lot I get a penny for my thoughts. I didn't join only for the money. I like to discuss things under the sun! :)

Right now, it would be 2 tabs right away. Gmail and myLot. I try to open myLot first since it is SLOW and takes longer to load. When I settle these 2, I will move on to other things.

Hmmm, I wonder why your Mylot is so slow in loading. I think Mylot and the individual e-mails must be about the most popular spots on the net, as so far, they've really been the only answers. It just goes to show how popular the site is, and what a great community is here, on the whole.
Brightest Blessings, my friend.

At first loading, it takes min 5-10 sec to even bring up the box where I can type in my username and password.

Right now I am not spending as much time on the Internet as I used to because I cannot think of anything interesting to do. But I did spend 10 hours a day on it for 10 years.
I still check my emails while having my first cup of coffee. And if my friends on myLot have some interesting questions... I will answer them.
Then I'll check my shares on Celebdaq...lol
I might also check the latest news in the world.
And then I'll have a chat with my sister on Yahoo Messenger.
There are actually many things I could do... I am just not in the mood right now... like finishing my website at www.aussies-online.com

When the computer is, I will just open few tabs and select my favourites - mail, stock and mylot. I will just login to whichever finish loading first. If it is trading day, stock page will be my first, follow by mail. I will attend to official
mails first before personal and then respond to email notifications. My homepage is a blank page because I do not have the patience to wait for it to stop loading if I am in a rush.

I usually log on to msn and check who might be on and my emails. Then i check my other email sites and then onto mylot. I then like to check out a few other sites i like and then anything else i want to look up. I mainly go on the computer late afternoon and evening cause i usually have other stuff to do during the day. Sometimes though i think stuff all the other stuff and just have a day on the computer. But i dont get many of them.
Best wishes to you darkwing.

Yes, I usually take a break from Mylot once it's updated for the day. I go off and do a few other things that require my attention, do some blogging, and checking up on friends and e-mails. Then, when all else is settled, I come back and do a bit towards the next day's update.
Brightest Blessings. x

So Mylot really is your lot then, Gabs! lol. It seems to me that most members of Mylot do the same as you. Check their e-mails and straight into Mylot. As I said previously, it seems that this site is one of the most popular places to be and who can wonder at it with the lovely people in here, many of whom have become firm friends.
Thank you Gabs... Brightest blessings, love and hugs. x

I usually check my email first and then I check the forum of the course i'm doing to see i i've had any feedback on my coursework. After that i'll usually spend a bit of time on Mylot or 43 things, and then i'll sign of. I've found that while i'm on holiday if I spend too much time on the computer it seems to absorn my whole day and then I feel annoyed with myself, so I limit the amount of time I spend online each day - i'm more productive that way.

After my first cup of coffee I put the computer on, after my second cup of coffee the computer has finally woken up and is running :-) I always check my emails first, and then I check eBay before logging in to MyLot.

This is going to sound like I'm addicted BUT Mylot is my homepage. I did this because I am on dial up and it takes a very long time (about 12 minutes) to load the mylot page. By having mylot as my homepage I can cut down on time by just opening a browser and letting it load while I do other things. The second thing I do is check my Adbux. I lvoe this site because I have been paidout very well by them and try to check this site often so that I don't miss out on money! I will then open my hotmail (it is my only email address) I am not too enthusiastic about this because seriously in an average day I will get 150 emails only 1 of which will be non junk mail. So I will clear out the junk mail, read and reply to any genuine emails. Then I will pull open my P2P program (Limewire) to let that begin downloading music. Then I will post in mylots for awhile then leave the computer running and do housework or play with my son etc.... I try to leave my computer running as much as possible because my main reason for having the Internet is so that I can download music. On dial up that is a very slow and arduous task lol!

punky, i have hotmail as well and i was having the same problem with junk mail that you have, if you want that junk mail to go away to never have to see it again just do the following:
go into options - and under junk email it'll say filers and confirmation - then it'll say this
Select the filter level you want to apply to incoming messages.
- Low - Obvious junk e-mail is sent to the junk e-mail folder.
- Standard - Most junk e-mail is sent to the junk e-mail folder.
- Exclusive - Everything is sent to the junk e-mail folder except messages from your contacts and safe senders, Windows Live Hotmail service announcements, and alerts that you signed up for.
now if you just have hotmail it'll say the same thing without the windows live before the hotmail.
you can chose between standard and exclusive and it'll rid you of all your spam and junk mail, standard works best because if your getting an email from someone that's not on your list you can still find it in your junk mail box.
Then under that you'll see where it says delete junk mail, it'll say later or immediately, i use later so i can see anything that might have accidentally got thrown in the junk folder.
After that i would hit the confirmation, so that if you say something's junk by accident you can fix it when the pop up toast comes up asking if your sure.
When your done that, make sure you add all your important senders into the safe list under options again.
Make sure you add in all of mylot, adbux and so on into there so you continue to recieve those emails.
Done.
Hope this helps you out punky

Hello Darkwing, every morning after all the house chores are done, I will start my computer and read my emails. After that I will log into mylot and start daily routine and try to reach my goal for the day. In between, I will do some cooking or watch some nice tv program with my son. My homepage is mylot.

Oh what a good girl you are... I leave my chores until later and then do them bit by bit. lol. But, after all is said and done, you do the same as the majority of us; check e-mail and straight into Mylot! It seems to me that Mylot is fast becoming one of the most popular places to be, on the net... and quite rightly so. The community in here is great.
Brightest Blessings, my friend.

That's a good practice checking your broadband usage and updating your antivirus, which I'm guessing you do manually. My update runs automatically, so by the time I get up, it's completed. You enjoy your music as well, by all accounts.
Brightest Blessings and thank you for your response.

My career as a writer gives me an excuse to spend most of the day infront of the computer. I write down ideas etc. but I also multi-task, checking my e-mail, and surfing sites like Gather and MyLot for interesting discussions and a few extra dollars.

as it has always been a habit, first things first. upon logging into the computer, i check all my e-mails from 4 services namely yahoo, hotmail, gmail and searchmymail and make replies. reading the news online comes next so i get updated of the latest local and international events. the last but not the least is going to mylot where i spend a lot of time. i do have my regular breaks too so as not to get bored. taking juice drinks and watching tv help me relax awhile. few hours later i would have returned and continued replying to discussions in mylot. chatting online has been dropped off my list since i do not find interest on it anymore.

Wow... you must have a whole lot of e-mail to check through, but you're certainly organised. I only wish I was! lol.
You have the right idea in taking a break though. I just get up and take a quarter hour break about every two hours.
Brightest Blessings and thank you for your input Ryan.

Hello Darkwing ! I put on my computer when i got up in the morning. I am using Opera as its realy helpful as it opens all the taps where you were left last time. I firsty look at no of responses my discussions have got and other thing is no of posting , mylot reputation stars.
once i find my posting no find lowered than what it was at the time when i quited it at night before going to bed. so i check to make confirm wether some of my postings haven't deleted.
my home page is set as blank as I am using dial up connection and due to its speeds it always conflict when I want to open new site.

Wow... are you saying that you work only in Mylot, or just that it's your first visit of the day?
I don't know what Opera is, but I guess it's an internet connection. It sounds good, anyway.
Thank you for your response SK, and brightest blessings for a great day.

Hi :)
Well, when I start using my pc it's already night most of the times lol
The first thing I do is to check my e-mails, then I turn the messenger on, I check my orkut page and my blog, and then I come here on mylot. Always this same thing hahah And while surfing on mylot I'm talking to my friends on my messenger, listening to music and when I'm not here, I'm playing an online game called Ragnarok

Wow, multi-tasking with a vengeance, huh? lol.
You may have a routine there, but you're very organised and I would think it's that time management which enables you to do so much, online, even if you don't start until evening.
Brightest Blessings and thank you for your input.
